A Rescue to Remember

A Rescue to Remember A Cause for the 4 Paws! To give you all a short brief about this organization, I recently want on a deployment to Qatar in 2019. Who was sponsored by Parkview.

During my tour, I started a program for Soldiers to be able to walk dogs, and adopt from a local shelter outside the City of Doha. The shelter was called, 2nd Chance. As we went every Friday, our "Dog Walking Mission" (as it was referred to on base) got bigger and bigger every week. With some others who where also involved in making the mission happen, to name Lia Cater Brown, started something aw

esome in Qatar between the animals, local nationals and the Soldiers, to also include the American Schools of Doha. Returning home, with 2 adoptions of myself, Karaana & Loki, I wanted to "pay it back" with assisting other organizations that helped us with getting our Soldier's adoptions, including my 2, transported around the World. They are, Puppy Rescue Mission (PRM) & Travel 2 the Rescue (T2R). Since I have been working with both of these organizations, I've reached out to my local shelters & rescues. Fostering cats & kittens from Homeward Bound and puppies from Riley's Rescue. After all the fostering and working alone side with all these organizations since 2019, I decided to take it another step, and "pay it forward" .. On August 1st, 2020, I had officially started my every own rescue. calling it, "A Rescue to Remember" .. After spending up all night before, doing research for days before the 1st, bouncing back ideas on rescue names and etc, I chose this name, because, all the rescues I had Soldiers adopted from New Jersey & Oregon to also include other states; I remember all of them. I can tell you every cat & dog's name, where they went, who they want too. Major the big fluffy German Shepherd going to a Soldier in Oregon who is in training camp in Washington DC .. DeeDee who is in a loving home in South Jersey adopted by a Soldier in the NJ National Guard. Two kittens, Maple & Cinnaminson adopted by a NJ National Guard Soldier who also adopted a dog named Nutmeg. A cat named Richards who was on another military base in Qatar, that I drove over 2 hours to rescue for a Soldier from NJ. This Soldier fell in love with this cat and had to bring him home. Which in fact, his twin brother, also adopted a dog named Jimmy! I'm pretty sure the dog was not named after me, but this dog was awesome to be around with! I could go on and one about all the animals that were saved and rescued. Without our partners over seas, none of this would have ever happened! As the Owner & Founder of "A Rescue to Remember", I am proud of what has become and will be with this Rescue. This is a Great Cause for the 4 Paws!

Zira keeps her chin up and hopes today will be her lucky day. This 4 year old golden-eyed girl was surrendered when her owner had to move into a nursing home. She's made the best of her new situation and is beautiful inside and out. She enjoys when we pet her and rubs up against our hands to make sure we keep petting her. We think she'll make somebody a very devoted companion. Please don't let her spend another night sleeping in a cage. Come meet Zira at the VAO soon. We all love her and think you will love her, too. 🧡

***REMEMBERING THE CATS***

Thousands of cats were dispatched to the trenches during WW1 to keep rodent numbers down and act as early warning detectors for mustard gas. So many gave great comfort to the troops as companions and mascots. How many cats survived we will never know?

Paws At The Ready -
The cats of World War One had significant role in all the campaigns, we must honour their bravery too.

Give thought to all the kitties
who served in World War One.
A battalion of the finest
who never fired a gun.
What was their role?
Whether hunting rodents out at sea,
or loyal friends to men,
these many cats had vital roles,
time and time again.

The food was saved.
A common sight in trenches deep,
dispatching mice and rats,
the soldiers’ had a special bond
with many of these cats.
Many were treasured mascots.
Five hundred thousand cats were sent
to serve in the Great War.
Some detected mustard gas,
whilst others were off shore.

Some of the feline heroes -
Togo was the Dreadnought’s cat,
The Swan had their lad Ching.
Pincher was the Vinex’s mog,
it was luck they hoped they’d bring.
‘Martinpuich’ was aptly named,
by The 9th battalion chaps.
Pitouchi was the orphaned kit,
who’d survived on army scraps.
Spark Plug, Tabby and many more
were companions to the troops.
The feline unsung heroes,
those cats who became recruits.

We’ll never truly realise
just what these cats went through.

So spare a thought and give some thanks
for what they did for you!

Lest We Forget!

We are starting to open our doors again, very slowly .. Our new office line is 609-839-5000, if you call, the voicemail is start up for a car dealership known as A & R Used Cars .. the reason is because the owner of us also works for a Used Car Dealership.. this number belongs to the owner of us but also uses it for his Dealership.

Our location is still posted on google maps and other maps in Blackwood .. we are not open to the public to “stop by” .. our offices are still run out of a private residential property.. there are no animals for adoption to view on this property..

To visit any of our animals in foster care, you can call the number mentioned above .. you can always reach us by email at [email protected] .. or as always on Facebook at A Rescue to Remember
