We decided to flip the script tonight! The students got to give lessons to the instructors tonight, and poor McKayla did a great job at making even beginners look like professionals! π
This is Rooster, a training horse that came in last month that McKayla and Adam have been working on! When Rooster came in, he was struggling with focusing his attention, being respectful of space, and didn't know a lot of groundwork. He also struggled to lope on the lungeline and would take a lot of encouragement. He's come so far in his first month and is now working on his under saddle training!
If you are familiar with our check list, see if you can point out the key things McKayla is working on! Here's a word bank and you tell us what order they go in! What are some key things you notice in the session? How many mistakes do you see that Rooster made? Remember, the motto of horse training is "We're looking for improvement, not perfection". From our description of Rooster before he came, what do you see that he's improved upon?-
Forequarter yield
Lunging
Hindquarter yield
Desensitizing
Backing
Flexing

Happy Birthday to one of our most favorite individuals at ANC Stables! Mckayla, you are not only our favorite beginner rider teacher, but also someone who has the incredible ability to explain everything in the simplest way that everyone can understand. We truly appreciate all that you do for ANC Stables and we want you to know that you are loved by all of us. On this special day, we celebrate you and are grateful to have you in our lives. Happy Birthday, Mckayla!
Is it going to pour or not? Planning lessons today has been a real battle π It's raining cats and dogs, then itβs sunny βοΈ The weather forecast is as reliable as a broken umbrella. πToday's lessons are officially canceled. Fingers crossed for sunnier skies on another day! #missouriweather #missouri #weather #rain #willitrainornot #missourihorse #missouriequine #missouribusiness
Lessons Tuesday April 30th
I had an incredible first day back in the office after our camping trip to Shawnee National Forest last week! I All of my students did amazing today. Additionally, two of our horses enjoyed a refreshing bath and now they look absolutely stunning! Furthermore, Tari had the opportunity to brush up on being ponied with Remi and Mckayla.
Just a friendly reminder, we still have available spots in our weekly lessons. We would be absolutely thrilled to have you join our lesson family!
For those of you who know the staff well, you know this is something we've dreamed of and waited for! We are absolutely beyond THRILLED that we now have lights in our arena!
As a reminder, we do allow haul ins to use our arena for $10/horse with a negative Coggins!
For today's group lesson, McKayla gave a demonstration we often use regarding bit pressure. How many of you have actually tried this? It's more effective with something solid, like a board or a pole, but using a plain old lead rope works really well too! 15 year old K was a great "pony" and helped McKayla demonstrate how just a little pressure makes a world of difference. Afterwards, each student got McKayla as their "pony" to learn about bit pressure and how it works! If you have students, we encourage you guys to give this exercise a try so they can learn the meaning of soft hands!
