Today I accept that my doors are closed for good. Definitely not my designed end. I am sure many have seen my rants. I apologize, you are seeing a side that is angry, calling foulplay and probably embarrassing my family. I have been praying, praying hard, God and I talk all day! I pray for this nation, this world. The Holy Spirit and I have been wrangling for sure! And what He keeps telling me is to be thankful! It is through these lessens we learn through trials. It through these trials we learn to reach out and love one another. His greatest Commandment. You see I grew up not knowing where I really belonged, why couldn't I have what others have. Stability. You, this community, this business made me feel I belonged. Thank You! You became my friends and my biggest dream fulfilled.....all the dogs and cats I could ever want! Those happy to see me wagging tails made me smile on days I didn't want to. Throughout this closing, I won't deny I am struggling with anger, depression and thankfulness, why me? Why couldn't I have retired the way I was planning. However I have food and through the blessings and success of my children I am okay.
I have learned of the suffering of others and to wake up to there is no more "why me?" But, Why us?. We have all lost in this war. So with that I need to learn to be thankful this year. To know God is telling me I have a purpose, my time here in this place is done. For it is in the ashes that we rise.
My greatest lesson was from someone that also learned a great lesson and whose dreams were crushed. or so I thought. My son Jacob, the opera star whom was told he had a gift from God in his voice. While that was a risky pursuit (performing) with a lot of ifs we supported him. Jacob got a big jolt during the pandemic and lost his way. Questioning life itself. I was desperate to help him and show him he had a purpose. I searched for answers and came upon Americorps. I wasn't sure he would accept this. However he has said all he wants to do is help people or animals and see the world. Now this is not easy. He would be giving up relentless hours on gaming. He will be paid 180.00 every two weeks. He will have an 8.00? a day for food. He will live in a run down house, barracks, outdoors. He will miss holidays with us. That was alot to take on and I prayed he would embrace this and find his way and his purpose. He has so far put a roof on a house in snow. building a fence for a jewish home for kids to house their animals. He has sheetrocked, painted and repaired a home and more. Jacob called me last night and said "Mom, Im the happiest I have ever been." Please don't think I don't love ya'll but I really like being on my own. Ok, so I think...This kid that had what some kids only dream of, has found he was not happy with what I gave him. He is finding greater joy in life helping others! Thank you Jesus, my son has found his purpose! Definitely not what I envisioned a year ago.
My daughter finally after so many disappointments has a family. I have a grandson! That makes me laugh more than anyone! Our bond is closer as a family because of him. My prayers were heard.

So as 2021 begins, I will stop asking why me, instead I will know I have another purpose now. I will be thankful with the wonderful memories you all gave me. I will learn to smell the flowers again! Above all be thankful for what I have and listen when God calls.
My site will be taken down soon, so this is the last looooong post. Thanks so much for the calls, the cards, the text and posts. You really do know how to make a girl feel special. Forever, lovingly in my thoughts...Debbie

Announcement!! I have been delaying this post for as long as I could. Many of you know that I was looking to retire in the future. Unfortunately that future was forced upon me sooner than I wanted. It seems with Covid 19 and my health issues got the better of me sooner than we wanted. I have debated as I certainly did not want to do it this soon. However, as the Covid is getting considerably worse and business is the slowest it's been in the last 16years. I had to look at the liability of continuing to run power, pay insurance, llc, fees and upkeep with no end in sight of this disease. We will be closing ours doors for good on Jan 1st, 2021. It is heartbreaking and the love and memories I have of you all and your furry kids is ones that I will continue to hold dear for all of my days. The couple of bookings starting in Dec thru the 1st of the year will stay with me their very last time and will be honored. Had I been able to continue grooming, this may not have been my choice. I remember 16 years ago in Oct I opened. I remember as we built this building, hearing over and over in my head. "Build it, they will come!" That first Dec I was full!, of course only 8 kennels at the time. Thanks to all who supported me, I later added on and upped it to 20 kennels. Which I still had waitlist because you made me so popular!! I thank you so much for your patronage over the years. We are also going to put our house up for sale asap to reduce what our income now does not cover. As I said before this is heartbreaking, but we could not avoid it any longer. It is with great sadness that I say my final goodbyes. Thanks so much for so many good years here at Doggone gRoom n Board Co. I love you all and I wish you all the Merriest of Christmas' and good health and continued wealth for the New Year!

Hello everyone!! My phones are working! Contrary to belief even though my website was hacked and said I was closed, I AM OPEN! For boarding that is!
I sure do miss my babies, but am still nowhere near being able to groom. Heck, can't hardly groom myself.🤪 The arm just ain't moving. My doctor says we will get it moving, even if it means another surgery....uggh. I am still in therapy and hoping for a breakthrough. At least many of my babies I groomed are also dogs I board and I do get to see and hug them still!. Best wishes and hope all are faring well during this terrible time in history

Hello Friends! I am 10 weeks post surgery and healing. It seems however, that not all is where I wanted it at this point. Due to RA and Osteoporosis, as well as the weeks of delay in getting the surgery has caused some hiccups. My arm usage is only at around 54 pct. We are working with therapy to try and get more range and less pain. I hope you all are settling in with your new groomers. I miss you all dearly. Our kennel is active but no where near what it normally is this time of year. Most that have been coming do not see me. I'm behind the scenes, however petting and loving. I am at high risk for Covid and with people traveling all over that come here we are limiting my contact with you all and trying to adhere to mask wearing for as long as we can. I really like seeing and talking with each of you, but for safety, I have to limit contact. I am happy to say we have seen alot of new clients and guests this year. Thanks so much for all the referrals. While we understand it's hard to really plan anything and plans change regularly with Covid. We ask that you please understand that I have waived many penalties for last minute changes due to Covid, however we hope you all will consider that and try to be firm on your bookings as best you can.
Gosh I cannot wait for all to get back to normal...love you, love your dogs and cats! Thanks so much for all the support, love and well wishes you send my way. I pray daily for all, this is so very trying for all! Again, it is faster to msg or email me. With no grooming I may miss calls during the middle of the day as I am not in office as much, but dealing more with the boarders.

Capri, jetson and Duke say Hello!

06/10/2020

Hello friends of Doggone! I had my surgery two weeks ago. I am healing well and surgery itself went very good. It was a little more than torn cuff but they are expecting a full recovery. It will be about 10 weeks from now that I can start to lift and get my arm back.
Our Neveah has moved to SC to get married and start a new chapter. We wish her the best life has to offer! With that being said, there is no grooming available other than a simple bath. My son Jacob is running the business at the moment, while i do walk throughs to visit my babies.
Recovery from corona19 shutdown has been very slow. To lessen the cost of running the business, currently we do not have internet at the building. This makes running cards a little tough. We can do it, but we have to do it here at the house. So it is preferred we have cash/check for payment.
Just a reminder, our rates as of 1st of june are 0-30lbs 14.00, 31-60 16.00 and 61 and over is 18.00 per night with our usual weekend/holiday surcharge. Cats are now 14.00 per night.
I want to thank all who have called, texted and sent cards. It is a real blessing to know how much you care. I appreciate the willingness to trust your babies with us. It lifts my spirits to hear them talking and watch them playing. I even had a reunion of some old buddies that loved to play together. Be still my heart.....

Hello!! Many are asking if we are available for boarding. I have my essential business license. Please leave a msg on the phone or here or via email. I am booking. Our grooming has been suspended until further notice.

I do want announce a rate change starting June 1st. 30lbs up is 14.00/31 and up will be 16.00. 61 and over will remain the same. We were unable to get government assistance. I have applied finally!, for unemployment. Hopefully that will come through. Along with the loss of revenue and the inability to groom. We realized our long standing rates could not allow us to have the wonderful facility we offer. So, In order to keep maintenance up, and our facility in shape. I made the tough decision to increase rates for the first time in 10years.

I do want to also let you know that, until this virus gets contained. I will have a social distance policy. I have a very weak immune system. I will ask that you drop your belongings and dogs off outside the office. We will meet them out there and show them to their rooms.

We do not require the flu vaccine, but do recommend it per division of veterinary medicine in Raleigh. Please let us know if your dog had developed a recent cough that has not been diagnosed.
We require Bordetella, rabies, and distemper/Parvo
Please make sure we always have updated shot records

Please be mindful of our business hours. Mon-Fri drop-offs are 8-9am or 4-5pm. Sat/Sun are 4-5pm only (no exceptions) We ask that you reserve those 72 business hours in advance, along with changes so that we can open waitlists for others. Changes made to pickups less than 72 business hours will result in charges for nights held.

Lastly, For everyone's safety!! Please, Please Drive Slow!!!

So very excited!!! To see my babies again and to meet new ones. Thanks for all the referrals!! Keep them coming!!!

God Bless you All during these ever changing times....

We are officially an essential business and can BOARD!

Due to Covid19 however I still have not been able to have the shoulder surgery so Grooming is not available. I had thought we might be able to get a groomer in here to help. That fell through. Due to the uncertainty of when I can actually have the surgery I had to finally make a decision that I had been dreading making. I am just going to call it quits on the grooming part of my business. My shoulder has gotten worse with the delay and I do not want to keep you all on hold. If I had a timeline it would be easier to know when this might be a possibility. But as of now it is unfair to my clients by continually delaying your grooms. I will keep you informed and will let you know if/when I can get back to grooming.

I do ask and hope you will recommend us for boarding and know that will continue uninterrupted. It will be our only income for quite some time so please refer and let everyone know we are open and have a ton of room available. I have been missing the barks and wagging tails. Can't wait to fill up again. my love and prayers go out to all during these uncertain times. Miss my furry friends and their parents too!!

Just a little update. We have applied for essential business, although currently my books are empty. Positive, we are working away getting things spruced up and awaiting the arrival of guests when they return. I am currently unable to lift my arm to my shoulder. Grooming height. Still don't have date on surgery. However I am negotiating new plans and hopefully will be announcing any minute. I have to say....after 15years....I am hearing phantom barks at the kennel....such an odd thing this quiet. I do hope and I do feel....that we will be up and running with a bang soon. In the meantime, how lucky can we be with such beautiful weather and not having to run power during this time!! God Bless you all!! I will keep you informed of new plans as soon as they are concrete!!

Hello my very dear clients. Guess it's time to let all know whats going on both grooming and boarding. We are a ghost town with almost 0 income at the moment. This has been an awful trying time for Doggone and you all as well. So last contact. I went to have a torn rotator cuff repaired. Due to some concerns with my heart, they terminated the surgery and have been awaiting the results of some tests. Those are still unavailable. Being that shoulder surgery may be perceived as an elective during this time. As well as myself being high risk with corona due to compromised immunity. I am at a loss as to when I can get back to grooming. I was trying to do a few dogs that will not transition to other groomers very well. However as time goes by, my duration of being able to use my arm is around 10mins max. So those who've gone to other groomers and are satisfied, I encourage you to continue. Your faithfulness and trust will always be remembered.
Boarding, is still available and very much needed to help keep us afloat. With that being said I do have to consider my risk of being around the public. We will try to do check ins and outs, outside our office unless bad weather does not permit, In order to keep the risk down for all. During this time, the internet is best to reach me now on fb. I am not keeping office hours and unable to pay Neveah, as there are no visitors, nor phone calls except for cancellations. We will take this one day at a time, be diligent and productive. And know this, Our Lord will provide. I pray for all during this most difficult time and that we can all realize and be thankful for all the blessings that we do have.
Positive note, Steve and I are taking advantage of dismantling and sprucing up the kennels awaiting the day we can hear "lots of talk and see wagging tails again!"

GOD BLESS!.....Debbie

Hello All! Just fyi and for all whom may be affected. I will be having shoulder surgery on the 26th of feb. The unfortunate is that I will not be able to use my right arm for 6-12weeks. Depending on what all they find when they go in there. This leaves us all in a dilemma. Thank goodness I have help now to get through this down time. However we will not have a groomer for some time. I will do my best to schedule those at the beginning of next month right before surgery. I have been struggling to groom for a while now, so I will not be able to work in many of you as I simply can't handle it. Also the great news is that I may have a grandbaby anyday now! I will want to spend a few days before surgery holding that baby as much as possible. He has been so long-awaited and I don't want to miss a moment!! BOARDING WILL NOT be affected. This is just a forewarning of what's to come. If I have you scheduled after the 26th for grooming, msg me and we'll see if we can work you in beforehand. Those mid-march and after may want to see if you can get a temporary groomer or just brush a lot and wait for my return. Neveah and Paige can help bath and brush if you want that done, but that would be about all. I have heard of several upcoming groomers in our area, but could not tell you who or how to get in touch. groomers in our area, Jennifer owens 336-367-4733, Becky at becky's pet parlor, the girl at deep creek opened up somewhere on old 421, animal crackers, and I saw there is a groomer in downtown boonville accepting new clients. anybody know sherry hunt? she found a groomer doing it out of her home. I hope you all will continue with me after the healing process, but understand completely if you don't. Love and Hugs.....Miss Debbie

its been a long time since I have posted about the business and the dogs. To be honest, my internet is lacking in so many ways and it is often difficult to upload pics and news. However I did want to update a few things. First as many of you know I have had a difficult time finding help or workers who stay very long after our Kathy left. Grayland moved away and Paige is pregnant and needs only one job, so she can take good care of the baby due in June. I had a few train and after a little time, they simply saw this job wasn't quite what they had in mind. I have recently hired Neveah Hemric. She is awesome with the work and her love for the dogs. I think many of you will be very pleased in my choice of her. However her time here will be limited as well, as she has a big future ahead of her and it may not be in Yadkin County. I have been struggling as I have aged to keep up with grooming, boarding, office and upkeep of the kennels. Along with the lack of finding permanent employees,

So I made a decision a few months back that the best thing for all is for me to retire from grooming. I have made a commitment to my current clients that I will continue as long as I am able to keep grooming those currently on my books that are regular appts. It is my feeling that not only do I adore these guys, I cannot upset their world and change their routines. Dogs are creatures of habit and like to know from start to finish who their groomer is and the trust that has to built in order for them to have a good day at the spa. I could never let my babies suffer the change.

I have also realized that in order not to raise prices to be able to have more employees or hire them fulltime, I would adjust pickup and drop-offs times for boarding. It will be 8-9am and 4-5p m-f and still 4-5p on weekends and holidays. We will ask at booking your choice and ask that you abide by this. This affords me time away and less confusion as to when to have someone available in the office. The majority of our work is done away from the office, so if we do no pickup when you call, it is best to leave a message and not assume we have seen that you called. The other option is to email or msg me through facebook. Both of which can be addressed when away from the office. We listen to msgs in the am and pm, so a middle of the day call may not be addressed until we are around the phone again.
AS always, you my clients whom I consider now good friends. I thank you for your continued loving support of me and my efforts to make your best buddy, mine too!!
I also Thank you for all the wonderful referrals!! you guys are great!!! Please keep referring for boarding. We will continue to accept new clients for that!!

Todays cover change is in memory of a very, very sweet Boy! Barclay. I have been his groomer and boarder since 2007! Very long time to really get to know a fellow. I look back at his paperwork from when he first came. I was advised he may not get along with other furry friends and that he should be muzzled for toenails. Well Barclay and I overcame those obstacles and rid ourselves of the muzzle and as you can see he loved hanging with other furry fellows. He particularly liked the ladies! Sissy who preceded him to the rainbow bridge is certainly up there waiting for him as they had a special bond in their golden years! I used to say Barclay liked to talk to God, everytime it thundered, he would stick his head out the doggie door and bark to the heavens. I will dearly miss his sweet self, but am so glad he is no longer in pain and can run with all his might in the fields of the rainbow bridge with his girl Sissy.
