Dog NERDs Behavior : Nurturing Elevated Resilience in Dogs

Dog NERDs Behavior : Nurturing Elevated Resilience in Dogs Improving the bond you share with dogs through the applied practice of behavioral sciences. CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, FFCP Dogs are dogs; let them be that.

I have had the fortunate experience to apprentice under and work with some of the country's most reputable dog trainers including Jason Lake and Forrest Mickey. I then went on to apprentice for a dog behaviorist with over 20 years experience and currently am mentored by a veterinary behaviorist while in my graduate program in clinical animal behavior (MSc). I have multiple nationally recognized cr

edentials in both dog training (CCPDT-KA, PDT) and dog behavior (CBCC-KA, AD-gEek) and am a Certified Concept Trainer, as well as the only Certified Fear Free Trainer, and Certified Behavior Consultant for Canine in Nevada County. The area I am called on most frequently to support is helping medium and high-drive personality working breeds to integrate into companion-level homes. My approach is creating change at an emotional level to impact behaviors informed by the resilience conditioning framework. By focusing on holistically meeting the animal's needs from an integrative platform, any maladaptive coping mechanisms inherently become obsolete. I maintain specialty in treating fear-based behaviors, aggression, separation related behaviors and gestational development for puppies. I work with dogs from all sorts of background but far and away have the most experience with shelter and rescue animals and they represent my preferred population.

Foster families are so important and deeply appreciated. We can’t thank you enough for the heart and soul you pour into housing and caring for our animals. 💟

Sometimes, fostering leads to forever love! While some call it a 'foster fail,' we see it differently. Our hearts couldn’t be happier when the perfect match is made.

DUKE WAS ADOPTED❣ PLEASE READ a poem sent to us from Duke's adopter after a love connection was made.

"A failure’s lament

I failed today, I failed today, oh no, I failed today.

No way, no way, can’t send you away.

Abandoned, forgotten, a broken heart

A sacred promise we’d never part.

So, I failed today which means you stay,

I promise I’ll love you, each and every day.

No more fear, hunger, no need to fight.

Your forever home, so sleep sound tonight.

-A foster failure"

Their behavior is their voice.
Learning how to listen is the practice.

Emotions influence an animal's subjective experience and are a support system for behaviors which aid survival.

We can understand emotions as a product of the integrated experience of four functions: physiological, behavioral, subjective and cognitive.

Notice how emotions are distinct from feelings which are characteristic of the subjective experience of the individual. Unlike physiological and behavioral components, feelings cannot be measures yet.

There is also research which suggests that cognitive functions such a discriminatory and appraisal processes are also a foundational element from which emotions arise.

Emotions are internal functional states that provide causal explanations for behaviors, feelings, physiological responses and cognition.

What this class is NOT about:
"Fixing" your dog's behaviors

What this class IS about:
Understanding the function of unwanted behaviors and learning how to modify them by meeting those needs through alternative cooperative choices.

What this class is NOT about:
Over-facing your dog to environments and conditions which include elements your dog has a history of struggling to navigate without reactivity.

What this class IS about:
Creating safe set-ups which allow your dog to learn cooperative coping strategies when in the presence of triggers they have a history of struggling to navigate without reactivity.

What this class is NOT about:
Being your dog's "pack leader." Providing punitive outcomes to address unwanted behaviors. Keeping your reactive dog from ever experiencing the world.

What this class IS about:
Working with your dog as a teammate; sometimes taking and responding to their cue's, other times providing cue's for them. Reducing unwanted behaviors by meeting needs and providing alternative coping mechanisms. Comfortably expanding your dog's world into environments which include their triggers.

Each Saturday morning we will meet for a sixty minute practical activity learning experience like nothing you have ever seen. This class is a product of my graduate work and combines several of the most current approaches that create remarkable results specifically for reactive dogs, adolescents, and dogs with a history of trauma.

You can expect safe set-ups, ample space, and an enrollment cap of 8 dogs or less.

Over the four weeks we will introduce fun and easy ways to improve your dog's resilience and reduce reactive behaviors by focusing on three areas:
1-Meeting your dog's genetic needs especially in those areas of the predation chain they are optimized to perform.
2-Learning about environmental shaping to create experiences which support your dog making cooperative choices over reactive ones
3-introducing the techniques your can practice with your dog to change the way your dog feels about their current triggers and the associated behaviors those emotions reinforce.

Only 2 spots remain and enrollment is open to dogs over 8 months.

Class starts upon enrollment where you will be sent a fun game you will need to play with your dog 15 times for 3 min. each time. A video of you playing the game with your dog is required to be sent in BEFORE the first class meets. '

I will be leading the class with a helper providing a 3:1 - 4:1 instructor to student ratio.

All students will be learning a behavioral approach (pathological) informed by the ground breaking advancements taking place in canine sciences.

The level 1 class is accessible to all levels of experience and is effective at both impacting unwanted behaviors in-the-moment AND reducing the number of instances the unwanted behaviors are produced.
