What tasks do you do now (in early winter or fall) to make your life in the garden or farm easier next season? Fran (my mom 💕) is demonstrating my favorite hack—fall fertilizer. We have an abundance of rabbit 💩 and it makes great fertilizer! We’re tarping these beds later today so it’s “stale seeded” and ready to plant this spring.

Hollyhill Snowfire ❄️🔥 My oldest daughter has a soft spot in her heart for the red & white bi-color dahlias, so I tend to be drawn to them too. HH Snowfire does not disappoint! It was a treat to see each bloom’s unique variations as they bloomed this past summer ❤️

Better late than never! Finally planted my cool flower/hardy annual starts 😄😅 30 feet of spring beauty will be ours come April, assuming the voles, birds, & rabbits leave them alone! (I did protect it with a 1” chicken wire fence.) In all fairness we haven’t had a frost yet—I still have a dahlia blooming! Next up on the planting schedule are tulips, anemones & ranunculus! 🌸

Don’t forget to add this to your calendar! This will be our first sale of the year (no in person plant sale in Bothell in March) and will be before our online sale for 2026. I’m simplifying a little this spring to accommodate having 2 high school seniors and all that entails!

We started the process of digging dahlias today. It’s fun to do flat lays with the blooms as the plants come down! Most of these are 2nd year waterlily seedlings.

Head’s up! Next week (9/26) is our last farm stand of the year.
Next Saturday (9/27) is our final plant sale of the year. We’ll have eucalyptus starts, perennial flower starts, hardy annual flower starts and more to get your early spring garden blooming in 2026! We’ll also have bunny “brown gold” available to fertilize your fall garden beds.
