Are collars harmful?

Studies have proven that properly fitted collars pose very minimal risk for causing injuries. The risks of being a lost pet are far greater.

OVER 90% of the lost animal cases the AS&C deals with are not wearing a collar with ID. Therefore taking longer to be reunited with thier owners.

For the pet owners concerned about the dangers of collars, a well fitted breakaway collars are a safer bet to minimize the dangers.

In Jefferson County, Pet registration is not a requirementment, it's a service the AS&C offer's.

Many county residents don't realize Jefferson County does not have animal control services therefore the AS&C is usually the first responder for animal rescue in Jefferson County.

AS&C has chip readers to help find pet owners when they aren't wearing a collar with ID.

Loosing a furry family member is stressful on both the owners and pet.

The Animal Shelter and Care of Jefferson County (AS&C) strives to reunite lost pets with their owners before going to a shelter. The AS&C serves the entire County.

What can you do if you have lost or found a cat or dog?

1. Contact AS&C at 406-225-4334 and submit a report at ascjeffco.org.

Once they receive the report of a lost or found pet, they help spread the word on their social media network which includes nextdoor County wide.

Next call and make a report with the county sheriff's office in case they receive a call on the animal.

In addition to pet ID tags and microchips, by registering your pet with AS&C, your pet ownership will be in a local data base for a faster way to connect you with your lost pets. With this registration it doesn’t require a chip reader.
