Any sort of tummy ache a horse gets is usually called colic and it has all kinds of causes. If not treated it can become very serious. Today Honey didn’t p**p. At all. That is very unusual for a horse so the vet came and pumped her full of fluid via a hose down her nose so she would get her digestive track moving again. When the weather is very cold horses often drink a lot less water and that can cause digestive problems.

Honey is worried about going into the trailer - it is a dark box and that is scary. Kirsi is standing in the trailer. When Honey puts two feet in she gets praise and a treat. Next we will work on getting three feet in and finally, four. We want her to feel like going in is her choice and her idea. That makes her less anxious.

The colder weather has arrived and that means it is time to grow a thick winter coat. Did you know horses grow their winter coat based on the daylight hours getting shorter? Their bodies know winter is coming even on hot fall days.

Sometimes people call me a pony but I am a miniature horse. That means I am less than 32 inches tall at the top of my shoulder.

Hi I’m Honey. I was rescued as a baby horse by an amazing woman named Barbara. She and Valerie loved and cared for me and found me a great home but my owner couldn’t keep me. So when I was 7 I went back to live with Barbara and Valerie and they found me a new home in the Boulder Foothills. I am the SWEETEST gal you will ever meet and I looovvvvvveee snacks. So much so that I will try to come into my owner’s house when I see her open the fridge and there are carrots there! Mmmmm..carrots.
