Pets can be curious, and sometimes that leads to swallowing indigestible objects which can result in a bowel or gastrointestinal obstruction.
The treatment for bowel obstruction can vary and depends on the severity of the condition. In some cases, a blockage may pass on its own. In others, surgery may be required.
Obstructions can be very serious and may even result in death, so it is important to see your veterinarian if you discover or suspect your pet swallowed something indigestible. CASE is open 24/7/365 for emergencies. (303) 545-2273
Always great to have the wonderful Great Day Colorado team come visit our hospital! This month, our incredible Oncology team at the CASE Pet Cancer Center had the opportunity to speak with Chris Tomer about the wonderful work they do to improve pets lives while they receive cancer treatment.

Happy Hug Your Cat Day! π± Did you know that there are scientifically-proven health benefits to cat ownership?
β£ Cat owners have a lowered risk of heart disease and stroke due to the relaxing effects felines have on their humans which minimizes stress and lowers blood pressure.
β£ A cat's purr creates vibrations at a frequency of 20-140 HZ, and studies have shown that frequencies in the 18-35 HZ range have a positive effect on human joint mobility after injury.
β£ If you spend 15-30 minutes a day petting or playing with your cat it can boost your mood! A result due to a rise in serotonin and a decrease in cortisol.
Showing your cat love and affection will let them know you care for them too - so give your cat extra lovin' today and give them a hug!
It's always a pleasure to have our friends from KDVR stop by to talk with us! This month, our very own Dr. Morgan Brown spoke with Chris Tomer about our new I-131 Therapy service at CASE!

Gracie came to the CASE Nephrology/ET team after ingesting a lethal dose of baclofen. Baclofen is a commonly prescribed human medication for pain and muscle spasms. This initially caused her to be ataxic (walking with a drunken gait), before she progressed to a coma-like state and stopped breathing.
When Gracie arrived to CASE, she was transitioned to the mechanical ventilator and had hemodialysis with hemoperfusion to remove the baclofen circulating within the blood. Within 3 hours of treatment, Gracie started breathing on her own (spontaneous breathing) and she was able to be transitioned off the mechanical ventilator after 10 hours of treatment.
Gracie had a second treatment of hemodialysis and hemoperfusion the following day, where she became more responsive to auditory stimuli. Gracie needed an additional 3 days in hospital, which allowed her to make a full recovery and a second chance at living her best life! Extracorporeal toxin removal is a life saving treatment in many cases. Learn more: https://bit.ly/407Lo5f

Meet Nyx! She is a 2 year old American Shorthair who is receiving treatment from our Nephrology & Extracorporeal Therapies department.
Nyx was referred to CASE after accidentally ingesting a renal and GI toxic dose of the common medication, Carprofen (also known as Rimadyl).
She recently underwent procedure called hemoperfusion, which is a carbon based treatment targeting removal of the toxin from the blood compartment. She also has been receiving ongoing gastrointestinal decontamination.
As a result of the accidental ingestion, Nyx has developed an acute kidney injury. However, we have already seen an improvement and anticipate her kidney function to continue to improve over the next 2-3 months!
Tony Delivery Valentine's Day Candy
We had a very special Valentine's Day delivery yesterday!
Tony was recently rescued by 2 of our incredible vet techs, Devin and Cali. He had to have a P/U (Perineal Urethrostomy) surgery but has made such a great recovery that he was feeling up delivering Valentine's to our staff. π
A Perineal Urethrostomy is a is a surgical procedure that is most commonly performed on male cats with a urinary obstruction. This procedure removes the narrowest part of the urethra (the tube that transports the urine from the bladder to the exterior of the body), allowing easier urination with a lower risk of re-obstruction.
