We have completed our mission to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary with 14 extractions and a general exam. Patients are recovering well and we look forward to returning when needed. ⁣

We would like to thank our mission attendees Dr. Lauren Tink, Dr. Thomas Hujar and Dr. Schuyler Deluca for their willingness to learn and hard work.⁣

We would also like to thank the vet and anesthesia teams and care staff of Black Pine Animal Samctuary for their hospitality and dedication to their residents. ⁣
⁣
“Nestled on 18 acres in Albion, IN, Black Pine Animal Sanctuary is the forever home to over 70 captive raised exotic and wild animals. In 2019, BPAS became the only multi-species Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) accredited sanctuary in the state of Indiana. The sanctuary offers over ½ mile of paved trails with habitats for wolves, foxes, tigers, bobcats, and bears. In addition to the outdoor habitats, Black Pine hosts a Primate House, Reptile House, and Avian Building. As a true sanctuary, Black Pine Animal Sanctuary does not buy, sell, trade, or breed the animals living here. The animals living at BPAS will have refuge here for the REST of their lives. Most of the animal residents were voluntarily surrendered, however some were removed by legal authorities.”⁣

It’s a weekend of previous patients here Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. ⁣

Representing the foundation Dr. Hall, Dr. Dyer IV and DVT Kathleen Purshing along with guest practitioners Dr. Tink, Dr. Hujar and Dr. Deluca worked on two patients today completing general wellness exams, extraction of #404, scaling/root planing and multiple restorations. ⁣

That’s a wrap! Day 2 is compete and patients are recovering well. PEIVDF representatives , , and Dr. Kerry Robson completed 1 root canal and two extractions on two patients without complication. Thank you to for their excellent care and hospitality. Until next time!!

The Peter Emily Foundation was pleased to return to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana for another successful mission. Over the course of the weekend, our volunteer veterinary dentists, human dentists and veterinary technicians treated a cougar, 3 tigers, a leopard, a wolf, a bear, and 5 foxes. Performing several root canals and many extractions, they treated over 40 broken, damaged and painful teeth as well as helping with the stabilization of a fractured leg and an injured tail. Thank you to our amazing team of volunteers, as well as everyone else who made this weekend possible! We also appreciate the University of Illinois anesthesia team for performing excellent and safe anesthesia for all of our patients, who recovered beautifully and were already feeling better by the next day. We look forward to returning to the EFRC again soon! Thank you Steve Holmstrom, Brian Hewitt, Tina Abbatangelo, Thomas Hujer, Trudy Howeter, Jan Bellows, Kris Bannon Klessig, Grace Brown, Kathy Pershing, Toni Nation and Jen Montgomery for all of your time, effort, and expertise this weekend helping these beautiful animals!

January 11th-12th. The first mission of 2025 is in the books. We would like to thank for trusting PEIVDF representatives and with the dental needs of their two resident Tapirs, Tupi and Contessa. It’s an honor to work with such excellent veterinarians, technicians and care staff. ⁣
⁣
Tapirs are large, herbivorous mammals belonging to the family Tapiridae. They are similar in shape to a pig, with a short, prehensile nose trunk. Tapirs inhabit jungle and forest regions of South and Central America and Southeast Asia. They are one of three extant branches of Perissodactyla (odd-toed ungulates), alongside equines and rhinoceroses. Only a single genus, Tapirus, is currently extant. ⁣

The Reid Park Zoo, founded in 1967, is a 24-acre city-owned and -operated nonprofit zoo located within Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona. The zoo features more than 500 animals. It was unofficially established in 1965 by Gene Reid, the parks and recreation director at the time. The zoo receives approximately 500,000 visitors each year. It is accredited and certified with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. ⁣

“It takes a village (to care for a chimpanzee)”. We remain thankful to nfor their commitment to the foundation and the privilege that they have bestowed upon us to take care of their residents. ⁣

It is evident in every aspect that the care staff, technicians and veterinarians care deeply about the overall well being of their chimpanzees and we care deeply about upholding that level of care. ⁣
⁣
We would like to thank Dr. Kerry Robson and .endo for joining us on this mission and their commitment to learning and participation. We look forward to their continued efforts within the foundation and mission work. ⁣

Onward to 2025 and keeping the oral health of chimpanzees at STC and zoos/sanctuaries alike at the forefront of our mission work.
