Often times when people obtain pet pigs, they don’t do their research and they don’t plan ahead. A piglet is easy to transport home wrapped in a blanket, but many owners become stumped once their pig is grown up. Which sadly translates to a lot of pigs going without medical or wellness care.
We commonly see posts about people moving and they often are seeking help to move their pig. They don’t own a crate large enough, they don’t know how to get their pig in a crate. Sometimes they need a trailer, sometimes they have a trailer and cannot get their pig to go in it.
When we started CFS our goal was to help these pigs and their owners while also helping our own sanctuary residents by generating some income for them.
Today we are transporting Rooty to the Animal Hospital for an emergency visit. His mom is a very experienced pig parent but as she has aged and lives a single person, she has found herself unable to do the heavy lifting. This is where CFS was able to help. We drove to Rooty, brought our equipment, loaded him up, and will safely, securely, and humanely transport him back and forth the hospital. We were on the road for about an hour but had Rooty loaded and back on the road within 15 minutes, and he isn’t even crate trained. A little bit of patience, understanding, and the right tools and any pig can be transported safely!
