We have a new service at Bridger Veterinary Specialists! We welcome Dr. Matt Evans, DVM, DAVDC to the BVS team. He is available by referral for specialty dental care such as root canals, oral surgery, malocclusions that require intervention, treatment of periodontal diseases and advanced imaging of the mouth and skull and more. He is also available for cases that would benefit from having our anesthesiologist, Dr. Ashley Mitek, DVM, DACVAA oversee anesthesia. Dr. Evans is a proud graduate of Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a dentistry and oral surgery residency at The Pet Dentist in Tampa Bay and is Board Certified by the American Veterinary Dental College. Prior to pursuing his residency training he practiced in Montana for many years, where his love for both veterinary dentistry and the Big Sky country started. He is excited to be returning to the place he considers home to provide specialty dental care. Every day he sees how improving oral health can improve overall quality-of-life, and he is motivated by a sincere desire to help people by helping their pets. A true “dental nerd” he enjoys all aspects of his job from client education to advanced oral surgery. In his free time, he can’t seem to sit still and tries to spend as much time as possible outside—generally trying to get lost in the woods. Dr. Evans is excited to be a part of the BVS team and getting to know his clients and their furry family.

We are happy to introduce a new member of the BVS team. Carlos Valerio is our new full-time neurologist. Raised in Costa Rica, Carlos grew up surrounded by family and pets, fostering a deep connection with animals from an early age. At Washington State University, he completed an emergency and critical care internship, followed by intensive training in neurology and neurosurgery, completing an internship and a residency. He was recently granted diplomate status in Neurology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. His experiences at WSU exposed him to the acute need for neurological services in Montana, where patients often traveled extensive distances for care at WSU. Driven by a desire to address this gap and a personal draw to Montana's beauty, Carlos is thrilled to be joining the Bridger Veterinary Specialists neurology service and looks forward to making a meaningful impact. Carlos also hopes to also be an active part of the community where he can enjoy hobbies, like camping, fishing, hiking, hockey, tennis and soccer but also finding areas to serve the community outside of his professional field.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Melanie McMahon, DVM, DACVIM-Oncology to our team as a second medical oncologist! Dr. McMahon attended veterinary school at the University of California-Davis. She completed an internship at Colorado State University and subsequently completed her medical oncology residency and master's degree at The Ohio State University. Dr. McMahon received her board certification in medical oncology through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and has been practicing since 2009. Dr. McMahon practiced oncology full time in Portland, Oregon for 12 years during which time she started a successful oncology service at a busy surgical hospital. For the two years prior to joining Bridger Veterinary Specialists, Dr. McMahon worked as a locum tenens filling in for veterinary oncologists in hospitals all over the United States. Dr. McMahon's special interests include osteosarcoma, mast cell tumors, and palliative care. Her main goal as an oncologist is to ensure that each pet has an excellent quality of life during treatment. Dr. McMahon is excited to become part of the Bozeman community. When not at work, you’ll find her climbing, running, or skiing in the mountains.

Our lobby and exam rooms will be closed for a few days due to a broken pipe and flooding that occurred as a result. If you have an appointment or an after hours referral, please call our office at 406-548-4226 for instructions on how to enter the building. We will be seeing some cases curbside as a result. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to get things fixed and back to normal operations soon!

We know how hard it can be to lose a pet. We want to help support those that have lost a pet, are dealing with a tough diagnosis and preparing for pet loss or remembering an anniversary of losing your pet. We have partnered with Clarity Counseling Bozeman to provide a monthly group meeting. We will be meeting the first Wednesday of each month at 6:45 in our upstairs conference center. Everyone is invited and there is no cost to attend.

We welcome Dr. Blaise Burke, DVM, DAVCR- Radiation Onology to the BVS team! Dr. Burke brings many years of experience treating patients that have cancer with radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is used to treat certain types of cancer. Depending on the type, this therapy may be used in addition to chemotherapy. Some of the conditions that may benefit from radiation therapy include tumors in the skull (brain, nasal cavity, mouth) and tumors that cannot be surgically removed or cannot be completely removed by surgery. Radiation therapy is also used as a palliative treatment to reduce the pain of bone tumors and osteoarthritis. Dr. Burke joins our medical oncologist Dr.Kelly Carlsten, DVM, DACVIM - Oncology. We are fortunate to have such a great oncology team available in Montana to treat patients❤️
