"We took him in the meet and greet room and just kind of fell in love so, we brought him home. Our other cat was not so sure about him but then they became really good friends. We are glad we got him and thank you to Heart of the Valley for all the hard work they’ve done and how they’ve been giving the cats and dogs all the love they need before finding an owner. Again, I am so glad we have Finch in our family now. It used to feel like someone’s missing until we found the perfect one." -Jana

Click here to help more pets like Hulk! https://www.heartofthevalleyshelter.org/appeal-donations/

Pets can teach us so much about resilience. When Hulk came to HOV at just 14 weeks old, he was a bit of a mess! He had a broken foot from a recent injury and an eye condition called entropion. He was a big puppy -- already weighing almost 50 pounds -- so we knew we needed to move quickly to repair this big boy’s injured leg.
Since he was still a puppy, we also didn’t know how his leg would grow and adapt around the injured area. That meant Hulk would need to be with us for several months as he went through treatment and recovery.

Luckily, Heart of the Valley has an amazing network of foster families that can help care for pets with special needs. Hulk was placed with a foster who cared for him at home and brought him back to HOV for his entropion surgeries and regular splint changes. After the splint finally came off, the vets determined he would need surgery in order for his leg to continue to grow properly so he went back into foster to recover from another surgery.

Despite setbacks and several months of treatment, Hulk’s spirit was irrepressible. He was an incredibly sweet and happy boy who always looked forward to meeting new two legged and four legged friends!

Finally, at 6 months old, Hulk was ready for adoption when Josh and Ashley came to HOV. They had just lost their two older pups and were donating supplies when they decided to look at the adoptable dogs. “He still had the cone on when we saw him but he looked so much like the dog we just lost,” Josh says, “we made the decision to adopt right away.” Hulk blended right into their family, playing with their two other dogs and quickly bonding with Josh. “He got up on the bed and snuggled into my neck,” Josh says. It’s one of the many ways Hulk continues to help Josh and Ashley heal from the loss of their pups.

Thanks to the dedicated staff, foster and generous donors like you, we can continue to help pets like Hulk who give so much more than they ask for in return. Your gift today helps lost and homeless pets find the families they deserve.
