Got to work on a young mustang today who’s been through a bit of a tumble recently. He was showing signs of trauma and was especially hesitant to reach down through his head and neck—classic signs of discomfort and guarding.

After a full assessment, his back and hips checked out within normal ranges, but his neck, shoulders, and especially the area around his withers and trapezius were tight and bracing. I focused our session there, working to release tension and create some relief. Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but by the end of our session, it was incredible to see him already reaching and stretching further than he had at the start—small wins that matter!

Moving forward, I’ve recommended targeted stretches to support his recovery, and he’ll also be visiting a chiropractor to ensure nothing is misaligned. With some rest, thoughtful bodywork, and consistent TLC, I’m excited to check in again next month and see how far he’s come.

Big shoutout to his amazing owners who are all-in for his healing journey. That kind of dedication makes all the difference!

Before and After Observations First picture: This filly's facial expression at the onset of addressing a sore point. Second picture: This filly's facial expression upon completion of working on that sore point. Note the subtle yet indicative changes: her eye has softened, her nostrils are less flared, her head is lowered and relaxed, and her ears relaxed and flopping out to the side, now listening without discomfort. Can you discern the visual cues distinguishing a horse in pain from one at ease?

Let’s talk about Lumbar! 🦴

The lumbar vertebrae allow for flexion, extension, and side bending.

Longissimus Dorsi muscle, Jct. Gluteus Medius, Illiocostalis, and many more muscles join at the lumbar.

Is my horse sore in their lumbar, if so, then why? What is causing it, how can we help?

Causes of a sore lumbar vary…..
~Could be arthritis, or a joint disease.
~Poor saddle fit
~Muscle strain or fatigue
~Rider imbalance
~Improper Shoeing or Trims

If you find that your horse has a sore lumbar what do you do as an owner?

Run through the list and evaluate everything, it may something as simple as just wear and tear ! Or maybe your saddle doesn’t fit!

When you’re back hurts you go get a massage! Why shouldn’t your horse have the same! 😊

Stretching isn’t just for humans—it’s essential for our equine companions too! 🐴✨ Did you know that when horses stretch, it can also enhance the benefits of equine massage therapy? Stretching helps maintain flexibility, improves circulation, and complements the relaxation and release achieved through massage. Incorporate both into your horse’s routine for a holistic approach to their well-being! 🌟

These two good boys got to have their spa day! One in training and the other old retired ranch pony. As you can see he took to taking a nap after his massage while his friend got his!

Just because they are a ranch horse doesn’t mean they don’t benefit from stress point therapy and don’t deserve it as much as performance horses! If you want to treat your old pony in the pasture for all their years of hard work and ease their used bodies, give me a call!

We still have a long ways to go but improvement is only one sore muscle away! 🤩 Revitalize Your Ride!

Does you horse buck, do they struggle picking up leads, do they feel off. Maybe it’s a simple answer as a sore or tight muscle, simply renewed with some certified bodywork!

Edit:
Add on as I forgot this bit of information in the before and after videos. Both videos he had wedge pads on and still was in pain. Wedge pads can help but it takes a while for the body to adjust. ❤️

What is Equine Massage Therapy?

Equine massage therapy is a type of therapy that involves hands-on manipulation of the muscles and soft tissues of horses to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and alleviate tension and soreness.

What is Stress Point therapy?

Stress point therapy focuses on relieving muscle tension and discomfort by targeting specific trigger points in the body. Therapists apply pressure to these points to release tension, improve blood flow, and promote relaxation, aiding in pain relief and enhancing flexibility.

How can I help your horse?

Think of stress point therapy and massage for horses like a spa day for your equine friend! It's like giving them a relaxing massage in all the right spots to loosen up tense muscles, increase blood flow, and make them feel fantastic. It's like a rejuvenating treat that helps them move better, perform their best, and stay happy and healthy.
