Originally, Australian Labradoodles were created by a Royal Guide Dogs Association trainer in the 1980s as an allergy-friendly guide dog.

When carefully bred for temperament, the Australian Labradoodle can make an ideal therapy dog as they are intuitive, intelligent, and love people!

We have produced puppies that have become wonderful service dogs. They are specially trained to do tasks to assist their disabled handlers. 🐕‍🦺🦮

Service dogs are chosen very carefully as puppies through temperament testing and go through extensive training to ensure that they fulfill their purpose as successful service dogs. 🐾

🐕‍🦺 Here are two of our dogs that are trained service dogs! Fun fact, they are actually related as well! Max is Bodhi’s uncle! One of Max’s half brothers, Charlie is Bodhi’s dad. 🐕‍🦺

- Bodhi, the medium sized black Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle is from Gracie and Charlie’s (one of our now retired stud dogs) 7/10/2018 litter. Bodhi is a medical alert and response dog for his owner/handler. He alerts to seizures before his handler has them to give her warning ahead of time to take meds and get to a safe spot to sit or lie down. He also alerts to her tachycardia/high heart rate. He does other tasks such as deep pressure therapy, interruption of anxious behaviors, helps take her socks/jacket/pants/etc. off, and more. He is learning how to hold and retrieve dropped items, among a few other tasks as well. Bodhi is very sweet, loyal, laidback, and intelligent.

- Max, the large/standard black F3 Labradoodle is from Raven & Boomer’s 2009 litter. Max is now retired because he is 13 years old, but worked as a cross-trained guide dog for his handler, Korrine. Max was first trained as a service dog for Korrine’s medical needs for medical alert and response for seizures, low blood sugar, and high heart rate, PTSD tasks such as interrupting anxious behaviors/dissociation/flashbacks/panic attacks, allergen alert for peanuts, deep pressure therapy, going to get help (mainly used in the household), retrieving dropped items, helping remove Korrine’s socks/jacket/long sleeved shirt/pants, providing balance support while stationary, and more. As Korrine’s vision loss started to progress, Max was trained as a guide dog to be Korrine’s eyes to help her navigate around obstacles in different environments, find inside/outside, find a seat, find stairs/elevator, find a counter, follow specific people, detect change in elevation or drop offs such as curbs, and more. Not only was Max a phenomenal guide/service dog, he is Korrine’s loyal companion and best friend. He has been through everything with her, from medical appointments to traveling to different states, going on a boat, bus, and train, attending high school, internships, and work with Korrine, going to high school prom with her, escorting her across the stage at graduation, and more! Max is a one-of-a-kind dog and truly is amazing. He‘s always eager to please, ready to learn more, and is always up for a challenge. He’s an intelligent dog, who’s very adaptable, with a heart of gold, and a strong drive to please. Max’s purpose was to be a service dog and he certainly fulfilled and thrived as one. Although Max is retired from working in public now, he still does tasks at home for his handler and is very happy doing so. Once a service dog, always a service dog.

This was Sultan, the very first labradoodle. He was trained as a guide dog for a blind woman, Patricia Blum from Hawaii because her husband had an allergy to long haired shedding dogs.

Wally Conron, the breeding manager for the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia (now known as Guide Dogs Victoria) trialed 33 Standard Poodles for guide work to train for Patricia, but all of them didn’t have the right temperament.

He decided to create a crossbreed with the “working ability of the lab and the coat of a poodle”. He used one of Guide Dogs Victoria bi***es and bred her with his bosses Standard Poodle, Harley.

After the pups were born, Wally sent out samples of the labradoodle pups saliva and coat clippings to the woman in Hawaii and one pup was compatible for her husbands allergies. This pup had the best temperament out of the litter and was chosen to get trained and placed in Hawaii as Patricia’s guide dog.
