Red and I had a rough weekend this past weekend tracking we took on 5 tracks I would love to say we found all five of them but unfortunately this was just not our weekend. We are usually pretty successful but sometimes there’s just things you can’t change and a hunters shot placement is definitely one of them. I don’t screen calls and only take on the best tracks. we take what we get and run them the best we can. I feel like every animal deserves an opportunity to be recovered and if a hunter is willing to have me out and look for their deer, they feel like they have done something right unfortunately it isn’t always the case but you have to give a hunter props for making every effort they can. even when we don’t find the deer we have a great time meeting new people seeing new country and just being out there. We did have some good news today from our last track Sunday night. I asked a friend to go re-run it today because I had to call it quits last night Red and I were completely wore out and I was doubting my dog. We had stopped just short of the deer last night and it was recovered today. We are now 4 out of 14 somewhere around 31 or 32 walking miles and several new scars

I copied and shared from another page for those of you who ask how we track with no blood

How does the dog track the “correct” deer, even when there is no visible blood?:

When a deer is shot, the stress level causes the interdigital gland to secrete large doses of hormone/scent. This scent is unique to each deer, similar to our fingerprints. The higher the level of stress (mortally wounded) the stronger the scent. Our dogs have been trained to track SCENT- Not just blood. HOWEVER, if the deer is Not mortally wounded, as it calms down, the hormone excreted will be reduced. After a lot of exposure to tracking, an experienced dog will usually be able to tell the difference between tracking a “dead” deer and one you’ll never catch up to. Hence CALL us so that we can gain more experience! Lol Please!

Whitetail have numerous scent glands but we only concern ourselves with one.
Interdigital gland: Forty-six volatile compounds are secreted by this gland, and the varying evaporation rates mean the smell changes over time.
Location: Between the toes.

The days of goodbye are undoubtedly the toughest. After a three-month extension for search and rescue training, Beavercreeks River Bank Weeping Willow, a liver and tan bloodhound, has moved to her new home in Missouri. Concurrently, Beavercreeks Bolo Keeper of the Meadows joined his new family from Mississippi, who will showcase his abilities and pursue SAR certification, inspiring enthusiasm as he fulfills his bred purpose.

Red and I are getting excited about the upcoming deer season. We have been added to the TRAKER app this year so be sure to download the app so you have it handy at the click of a button

we have to make a few changes from last year on the number of tracks we take on 75 tracks with nearly 300 walking miles was just to much for the both of us we are going to be looking at about 50 tracks max. We will also be charging a small fee for all tracks this year. I wanted to always do them for free but with wear and tear gas and the amount of extra maintenance for Red and time I’m just not able to make it work. Things that haven’t changed are the fact we don’t care how far we have to track if we feel like we can find your deer We will work until we find it. You can still call us day or night and we are not afraid to track behind another dog it never hurts to get a second look, so don’t be afraid to call us 417-337-2684
