Our Story
Red Oak Trail Aussies focuses on breeding family dogs; they become family members and are still able to have a working life on the ranch or farm, or used in agility and other showmanship areas. We imprint on all puppies in our home at birth and continually until they leave with their new families. Our dogs are not what I consider high strung dogs; they will come in the house, lay down and not be a bother when they are inside. But they do have the stamina to play or work outside all day, and not be worn out. That is what I really like about them. When we have work to do they can handle it but when we are home they can just chill and relax! And I don't feel like I HAVE to keep them busy to have nice behavior, like some breeds do. Our dogs are also protective of their families. They keep a close watch on who is coming in and out of our place and let us know when someone comes. Once they are here though they are fine and very friendly. Most importantly they are absolutely committed to their families. There is nothing more important to them than that. They are miserable without us and in complete bliss when we are together. I find those traits to be endearing but people who want a dog that they just leave in the yard and don't do anything with will find themselves with an unhappy dog. Please understand this breed of dog wants to be with their people. That is the most important thing for them. I also truly feel that personalities come with these dogs the same way they come with kids, and each one is different. Make sure that you find an Aussie with a compatible energy level and mind-set for your family. You can teach an Australian shepherd whatever their job requires. They are attentive and eager to please and to learn what you require them to learn.
We only have puppies a once every year or two. We are by no means a puppy mill. We breed Aussies that are perfect for family life, but are able to do many other jobs as well. Even though we raise the calmer family dog, they still enjoy and excel at agility and obedience training, or herding. Our puppies come from American Kennel Club champion working, herding and show lines in their backgrounds. This combination creates a gorgeous, very smart Aussie, with attentive energy, just right for an active family. Our Aussies adore children and family life and become family members themselves. We also specialize in producing all four of the accepted Aussie colors and patterns: blue merles, red merles, black tri's and red tri's.
Our Australian shepherd puppies and dogs are beautiful, intelligent, loyal, and completely committed to their families! It makes a big difference to expose puppies from birth to people of all ages. Our Australian shepherd puppies learn manners, respect for others, rules, and a host of other important lessons to begin a well adjusted family life and a great beginning to their future responsibilities. All of our dogs and puppies interact daily amongst themselves, with children, adults, cats and are introduced to large animals like horses too.
Our Australian shepherd puppies are ready for their new family homes at 8-weeks of age. Eight weeks old is the best age for bonding with people while still having been allowed the proper time to learn from it’s mother and grow from her nourishment. This is when you should pick up your puppy. Our puppies grow to be self assured and confident from being given ample time with their mother and litter-mates and then bonding with their families at the proper age.
