Sometimes groomers make mistakes, but we here at Blue Collar are always ready to help solve the problem! These brothers missed their last appointment and had to be seen somewhere else 2 weeks prior where the groom was not satisfactory for our client. No worries :) here are the before and after shots of Emily fixing them up a little. What really matters is that the pets are comfortable and healthy💙

Grass seed season is huge around here and they can cause some big issues if they migrate into your pet's skin, eyes, nose, or ears. Check your outside animals vigilantly to keep them happy and healthy💙🐩🌾

Just a reminder to everyone to check your dogs regularly for grass seeds at this time of year.

Grass seeds like to hide in between toes, and in ears! They can also sometimes cause problems by getting stuck up your dogs nose.

Try and allow some extra time after a walk to give your dog a good brush, giving their paws, ears, nose and armpits a good checking. Also, if your dog is wet rub them down in the direction the hair. 🐾🌾🐶

If you haven't heard this summer is about to heat up! Keep your dogs safe by taking your walks in the morning or evening when the sidewalks and black-top are cool, keeping plenty of fresh water available, and providing shade or a space to cool off! Remember that dogs are more sensitive to heat than we are so if you are concerned your animals are showing signs of heatstroke call your vet 🐶🌞

This is on Kamie! Kamie does a little of everything here at Blue Collar and that's exactly why she is so vital to our day to day operations. She has been with us for almost 3 years now! Her role is part manager part groomer, starting in reception but now is mostly back helping our groomers bathe dogs as well as grooming dogs AND cats that do not require full haircuts (🐕multifaceted much?😺). It's flea season, folks! Technically it is flea season all year round here in WA but of course there is always a big influx in the spring and summer when we start spending more time outside of our homes. Make sure to give your vet a call if your pet isn't on a good prescription flea and tick preventative. Trust us when we say it's a lot cheaper and easier to prevent this problem than solve it!🙀

This week's is dedicated to our business owner Sidney💙💙💙 Sidney started at Blue Collar Pet Salon back in 2016 as a bather before becoming a full fledged groomer in 2018, and then Owner/ Boss in 2021, so you could say she's an OG. While she is mostly only taking new cat clients her favorite dog breeds to work with are Poodles and Pomeranians! Sidney has always known that she wanted to work with animals and has not only fulfilled that dream but also has found a creative outlet as well👩‍🎨 She is responsible for introducing our entire Cats and Critters room to the salon, for sprucing up our lobby, and has spent many long days pouring her love into Blue Collar. this week is on our wonderful head bather Naylen! Naylen has been working with animals for 8 years, studied zoology at Kent State University for four years 💙🦅💛 (🚨smarty pants alert🚨), and has worked at Blue Collar for 1 year. Naylen works with our entire bathing team to bathe all of our 5 groomer's dogs as well as taking on her own clientele of dogs who don't need a full haircut, so she has worked with almost every single Blue Collar dog! She has a way with our nervous guys and animal behavior is something she is very knowledgeable in. You can find her sudsing up pooches, assisting cat grooms, answering phones, and booking appointments - she can do it all!
Give a big shout-out to one of our core team members and tell her your favorite bug fact the next time you see her! 🪲🐛🦋

Saturday spotlight this week is on Emily! Emily has been grooming for about 3 years and before that was a bather here at Blue Collar🧼🫧 Before she started grooming she was a veterinary assistant for one year, so she has experience with fearful, and disabled dogs as well as fear free handling techniques. Emily's favorite types of dogs to groom are giant breeds! Growing up with a Saint Bernard taught her a lot of patience with our big stubborn babies💙 The very last picture you see here of a sweet and old Pomeranian was a boy rescued by animal control from an animal abuse situation and was linked up and transported to Emily by a friend in the vet field. Emily got him all cleaned up and showed him lots of love to prepare him for his new life with a new family🐾🐕

Saturday Spotlight this week is on Beckie! Beckie has been grooming for 9 years almost exclusively at Blue Collar! A fun fact about her is that she actually grew up on a farm so she has been handling animals, big and small, for her entire life🐓🐴 which has made her very skilled with cranky and elderly pets. Just like all of our employees here Beckie is dedicated to continuing her grooming education. Some of her extra certifications include Doodle styling, all breed grooming, poodle styling, terrier breed clips, as well as being listed in the Professional Rabbit Groomer Directory. Beckie is our main critter girl here and is trained in rabbit, guinea pig, and ferret grooming. Not only that but she is also our only groomer here that hand strips! Her favorite dog breed to work with is anything in the terrior group. Guinea pigs and rabbits are her favorite critters🐇

Celyna has been grooming for 8 years and was recently hired at Blue Collar and we are so excited to introduce her to you guys💙She initially went through Petco grooming academy but has been continuing her grooming education her whole career and has extra certifications in puppy handling/ grooming and doodle grooming! Happy holidays everyone! As we are sure many of you are aware there is a mystery "pneumonia like" virus going around. Symptoms include lethargy, lack of appetite, wheezing, and eye discharge. Many cases present kennel cough like symptoms at first.
We understand that bringing in your beloved pets to be groomed during this time may be worrying, so we wanted to share the precautions we are taking to keep your kiddos safe. AS ALWAYS Blue Collar regards hygiene and safety as a top priority.
1) We always disinfect kennels between uses with an animal safe cleanser
2) Dogs that are not from the same household are always separated and are not allowed interaction with other pets (per our usual safety standards)
3) If we notice any signs of illness the pet is immediately quarantined and sent home
4) We can accommodate in and out appointments if you feel uncomfortable with your pet being kenneled at all and to limit any possible exposure time
At this time we have had no reported illness from any pets that frequent our salon, and we urge you to call with any questions or concerns that regard keeping your pet safe while being in our care and to keep your pets at home if they are not feeling well.

Dear Clients of Blue Collar,
I am here to make a statement about recent events, that you may or may not have heard circling social media.
Blue Collar has been accused of injuries leading to the death of a dog. The appointment took place on Friday, November 17th with a new client and young dog. The groom went well with no issues, pup was last seen happy, healthy and hyper, bouncing around the lobby between the groomer and owner.
After receiving a call that the pup had passed that evening, we were quick to respond. Myself, my assistant manager and the groomer together got in contact with the owners to answer questions and offer support. After getting a sense of their situation, I offered to pay for a necropsy and cremation of their beloved pet. I did this not only for answers, but to give them a sense of closure.
The necropsy took place on Sunday morning, and within a couple hours I was contacted by the owners to say we were at fault. Even having paid, I have not had access to the results. In their words then, the injuries were compared to that of trauma caused by a car accident. Lethal injuries resulting in immediate death.
There is more to this story, but I am not here to point blame, simply the defamation and intimidation has forced me to defend my staff and salon. I trust and love my team unwaveringly, because when something is our fault, we own up to it.
It is hard to trust someone with your pets, we know this and take it seriously. We are a small business and we know your trust is earned. This event is both tragic and distressing, and we feel for what this family is going through.
For those who saw posts about this and responded in our defense, words are not enough for how appreciative we are... Thank you. Your loyalty and support is why we are here.
