K9R Client Testimonial
“Tucker has made remarkable strides since I introduced him to structured training. Initially, I took him to parks and recreation dog training and also taught him commands like "sit" and "stay."

While he was always smart and excelled in his class, I struggled with his significant food aggression and resource guarding. These issues were concerning for both me and those around him, as his behavior was unpredictable without a solid routine

I once believed that giving dogs more freedom was beneficial, but I’ve learned they thrive on structure and guidance. Implementing stations around the house and effectively using the e-collar for correction and communication helped me connect with Tucker and break his past habits.

The transformation is astonishing; the difference between his former behavior and where he is now is like night and day. I often bring him to work, where he receives numerous compliments on his temperament.

Reflecting on how he used to be, it’s hard to believe he can now comfortably be in a corporate office with other dogs and people without issues, which would have seemed impossible before.”

PSA! Letting your dog s**t and p**s on people’s lawn is weird, disrespectful and disgusting. There is no excuse. It’s just wrong.

When is your dog ready to be off-leash? A great place to start is to teach leash manners / heal work so you can walk around the yard with the leash tucked in your pocket and not need the leash to have good leash manners. Then you can take that skill out of the yard on a long line and start to proof. The leash is the best too we have. The way you get off-leash freedom is on-leash.

Euthanizing your dog is LAST RESORT!
Build. Don’t destroy.

The many dog trainers and veterinarians will recommend euthanizing your dog before training because they lack the ability to rehabilitate that dog.

That doesn’t mean your dog can’t be rehabilitated.

Accept that the behaviors your dog has learned which have you calling a trainer are in part your responsibility and go from there.

Never say die.

“My 3 month old golden retriever began showing beginning signs of behavior that I was worried about. Separation anxiety being the biggest one.

Working from home, I wasn't sure how to fix this. Many family and friends recommended Justin and within a few minutes of him being at my house I could easily see why.

He has a very calm demeanor and makes it really easy to understand what to do and what not to do in terms of training your dog properly. He answered all of our questions and even hand wrote a schedule for our puppy to follow for the next 90 days. It really is simple.

In addition to that, he provided us with a complete new puppy training guide and video recorded our entire session that we can watch back at any time to remind ourselves. His new puppy training guide is something that I think any puppy could benefit from.

Our puppy is already catching on quickly. I couldn't be more grateful for the time we had with Justin and I can't wait to see the full benefits from our sessions with him come to life.
Thank you Justin!”

“My husband and I recently adopted a rescue pup and he had a lot of behavioral problems that other trainers weren’t successful at fixing. We also have a 3 year old son which makes it more difficult.

We reached out to Justin Michaels as he came highly recommended and I am so happy we did. He is also a father so he really helped us to understand the relationship between our toddler and pup so that everyone could be safe. He is truly the dog whisperer!

We signed up for the 2 day program and only completed day 1 so far but already we are noticing a HUGE difference in our puppy’s behavior and we have some peace in our home again. It’s a process but you just have to trust his process and stick to it! We cannot wait for day 2 of training.

We cannot thank him enough and we highly recommend him!!!”

Dog owners don’t owe anyone anything. You’re responsible for your dogs behavior and quality of life. 1 million dogs are euthanized each year because the dogs behavior didn’t work for the family. Your ideals don’t save lives. Just pride. Decide how your dog can be successful in your home and work your plan. Let the shade throwers rot in the darkness they live by. It isn’t your burden to carry. It will be your burden to carry if your dogs fails out of your home. The life of a dog surrendered or given up on gets dim. Let that be your light. Success and peace.

3 Month Update / Review from a New Jersey family we did a 2 Day Seminar with in September.

“It’s been 3 months since the training. Things are going well with our two dogs thanks to Justin.

We learned how important it is to stay consistent with the training for both the dogs and our family.

The stations are helpful to reinforce boundaries and give our dogs some calm alone time.

And most importantly our dogs go into their crates without any issues and wait calmly for us to let them out which was a big game changer for us.”

“I highly recommend Justin and his team at K9 Rehab.

Both of my dogs are rescues, and Justin has been instrumental in their training since I adopted them. One has been with me for 1.5 years, and the puppy for about 3 months. The entire K9 Rehab Team is exceptionally friendly and demonstrates expert training techniques combined with a genuine love for animals.

My dogs are happier, more obedient, and our time together has greatly improved. If you are seeking a top-notch dog trainer, K9 Rehab is the best choice.”

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The holidays are filled with generosity, kindness and family. But what for the dog?

Chaos, loud noise, strangers coming from Idaho kicking the door in, food hitting the floor, Uncle Danny with his yippy little Chihuahua, kids hauling ass through the living room and our dogs holding on for dear life. Hundreds of thousands of dog bites will be recorded in the next two weeks. And it will all be thanks to us.

Thousands of those dogs will be dropped off at shelters in the first weeknof Janaury. A few thousand more will be euthenized.

How do we know? That’s when our phone rings. When its too late. Can you rehabilitate your dog in rhe next 10 days? Not completely. But you can start. And that may be enough to keep your dog off the chopping block and give them time and space to grow.

The greatest gift you can give your dog is PEACE. Your dog doesnt need to be the center of this holiday season. They’ve told us over and over.

We need to change our definition of a quality of life and it doesnt need to include complete inclusion.

If your dog struggles to swim, don’t make the pool bigger and invite more people to jump in making waves.

Call for help. Set your dog up for success before the hard season sets in. You create what you allow.

Before my dad passed years ago, he would always say “There’s no time like the present.”

The 4.5 Billion Dollar Devil.

There are some common evils robbing you and your dog of a quality of life you deserve to get back. One of those evils is the Harness.

Generally, dog owners use a harness to make the dog more comfortable but that logic is very problematic because things in this world only change when they need to. In other words, the dog won’t stop pulling unless it’s uncomfortable to pull.

It’s important to dive into why the dog is pulling. Many owners and trainers will ingenuinly romanticize the pulling as excitement. We hear owners all the time explain their dog as “just so excited to play with other dogs or kids.” This is a cop out. The inability to change or stop a negative behavior should lead to greater effort to gain knowledge and practical skills to overcome to challenge. Unfortunately people tend to look for the path of least resistance.

Interestingly, the dog is doing the same. At first glance, that doesn’t seem to add up. They’re adding the most resistance on their harness. But they’re accommodating the much more important and difficult task of controlling their impulses. So pulling on a leash whether attached to a harness or flat collar is the easier feat in comparison to self-control which by the way, requires confidence and trust for the person on the other end of the leash.

Unhealthy behavior must be uncomfortable. How uncomfortable? We call the answer to
this MATCHING. We match the PRAISE or PRESSURE (behavioral outcomes) to the onsite or commitment of the dog with which they carry out the HEALTHY or UNHEALTHY behavior.

Imagine taking a walk with a loved one on a beach to spend quality time together and they’re ahead four feet the entire walk trying to get away from you. Why bother.

If this is how your dog walks, why not set them free. They clearly don’t want to be walking with you. The obviously answer to this rhetorical question is that Rover would likely be hit by a car or end up in a dog fight. Which brings us full circle.

Your dog needs you to be their teacher MUCH more than their companion. You can find a companion anywhere in life. Friends are at every park, every holiday, every living room, every backyard. A teacher however is not waiting around every corner to dedicate time and deliberate energy to the quality of the dogs experience. Be for your dog what they need. Not what is easy or convenient.

Walks are for connecting and moving and getting fresh air. Not covering 47 other dogs urine, dragging their owner down the street, barking at kids on bikes or any of the unhealthy chaotic practices harnesses help to reinforce.

You create what you allow. Don’t allow your walk to be high jacked by arousal, impulse and frustration.

Create healthy leash manners. Your dogs quality of life will multiply. This new way of walking will give them a sense of peace and confidence going into the vet, the tball game, Home Depot and the family picnic.

Click the link below to read about a recent study showing harness encourage the dog to pull 60% more than a flat collar. There’s “science” around every corner being presented as truth but today’s science is mostly propaganda and if you look hard enough, you’ll see how it comes back to money. Harnesses generating 4.5 BILLION dollars in 2023. Think about it.
