🔥 Breaking Barriers: Erin Taormino Performance Horses Makes History as NRCHA’s First Female World’s Greatest Horseman
There are moments in history that shift the tide—moments that don’t just break records, but break barriers. Last night, we witnessed one of those moments as Erin Taormino became the first-ever woman to win NRCHA’s World’s Greatest Horseman. In a sport as grueling and demanding as this one, where four disciplines test both horse and rider to their limits, Erin proved what we already knew deep down—women belong here, too.
🏆 The Reality of Being a Woman in Western Sports
There is no sugarcoating the trials women face in this male-dominated industry. We are daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, caretakers, and so much more. More often than not, our ambitions take a backseat to the roles only we can fulfill. But moments like this remind us that it’s possible to chase our dreams while still being all the things we are called to be.
Last year, my daughter and I watched Kaci O’Rourke become the first woman to ever win the NRHA Futurity. This year, we watched Erin compete in what is arguably the hardest event in all of equine western sports—and she didn’t just show up. She rose to the occasion and made history.
📚 A Lesson in Dedication and Mentorship
It was clear that Erin had gone the extra mile. She studied with the best, putting in the work to refine her craft. Watching Jackie Crawford—a legend in her own right—cheering Erin on from the stands was a testament to the power of sisterhood, mentorship, perseverance, and grit.
Erin’s victory isn’t just a personal triumph—it’s a message to every little girl in rodeo, reining, cutting, and cow horse that it can be done.
🌟 The Future is Bright
I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for the future of women in our sport. With role models like Erin Taormino, Kaci O’Rourke, Sarah Dawson, Patricia Lee, and Jackie Crawford, the next generation has a front-row seat to what is possible. These women are paving the for young riders to step into any discipline they choose with confidence.
Erin, congratulations on your incredible achievement. You have inspired so many—including my own daughter—to dream bigger, work harder, and never let doubt stand in the way.
Long live cowgirls…
