A long update:
As many of you know, Lori and I were involved in a motorcycle accident on May 19.
I am so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, care and concern by so many people. Family, friends, clients and associates have been so gracious. We have received so many calls, texts, IM, emails and visits from such wonderful people. I can’t thank you all enough. Keep the prayers coming, as we will beat this, get better and be healthy again! Lisa is such an amazing person. She is keeping the office open while helping us to continue life at home for Lori and Patrick.
Patrick has stepped up and is now the man of the house, what an INCREDIBLE kid!
When I am sad, depressed or stir-crazy sitting in this hospital room, Lori brings me cards from you all. It is so uplifting to read your thoughts and well wishes!
Lori sustained bruises and a fractured right elbow. Unfortunately, I have more serious injuries.
I have a grade 5 splenic laceration, 7 fractured ribs on my left side, and a pneumothorax (which is air outside the lugs in the chest cavity where it does not belong). This left me with a collapsed lung lobe.
I was first brought to Lehigh Valley Pocono, but they were unable to provide the necessary care. I was then transferred to Lehigh Valley Muhlenberg campus ICU. I spent 1 week in ICU and received excellent care.
Interventional radiology was able to cauterize my spleen to control the internal bleeding.
A chest tube was placed to remove the air and blood in my chest cavity. After a Cat Scan they found the tube was not in the correct place, so they removed that tube and placed another tube. This tube remains in place and is slowly removing the air and blood. The doctors inject special fluid to loosen the blood clots and make it possible to suction it out. This therapy is working and hopefully in a few days they will be able to remove the chest tube. I am currently in the trauma unit Muhlenberg campus. I don’t know how long I will be here, but the whole team is wonderful, and they are working hard to get me home.
I will give another update when I know more information. In the meantime, keep praying for all of us, including the Doctors, Nurses, Techs, Mobility aids and all others involved in giving me such great care.

*** Update ***
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We surpassed our goal which is wonderful news. I have an update on Dr. Casey and Lori. I have good news and I have some bad news.

The good news that I received is that Lori is doing great. She did show me her “boo-boo” as she calls it and it looks very ouch. She did see the orthopedic on Thursday. She has a fractured elbow. The better news is that she does not need a cast or any type of surgery. Doctors said it will heal on it’s own so no intervention is needed.

The bad news is Dr. Casey had a setback. He was doing pretty well up until yesterday. The doctors were hoping to get him out of the ICU on Thursday but that is not happening. After further testing yesterday, it has been found that his collapsed lung is filled with fluid. He needed another painful procedure to hopefully alleviate all of the fluid. As of today, he has been in the ICU for 8 days and we have no idea how much longer he will be there. Once they break him out of the ICU, he will have to be transferred to a regular floor for a few days before he will be allowed to go home. The medical bills are going to be insane.

Keep praying and sharing my campaign. He has a long road ahead of him. I will post updates as I have them.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been donating and sharing my campaign. I am trying to keep up with individual thank you emails but the page is not always cooperating. If you did not get a thank you from me I am sorry. I will keep trying. All of the support shown for Dr. Casey and Lori proves there are still kind and caring people in this crazy world. Keep being the light and spread it wherever you can! People like you can and will make a difference.

Dr. Casey and Lori are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support, get well wishes, donations, and prayers. Initially, I had no idea what kind of “goal” to set. I felt like I needed to do “something” rather than sitting around doing nothing and waiting for updates on their condition. I thought “every little bit helps”. I was stunned when I got up at 3am to start my day (Tuesday, not even 24 hours after the campaign was published) and saw we exceeded that goal. It made me want to set the bar a little higher. Every goal I published we surpassed thanks to all of YOU! There is still work to do. Keep praying, sharing, and donating if you can (if you have already donated I thank you and I am not asking you to give more, just to be clear). After hearing about the events that took place and knowing the severity of the injuries they sustained, I know they are going to have some hefty medical bills rolling in. Each of them has an outrageous deductible to pay before anything is even covered. Initially Casey was less than thrilled when he learned of the gofundme I had set up and wanted Lori to tell me to take it down. Casey is a giver, not a taker. It took A LOT of talking to him about it to finally accept the help. Lori put it best to him. "Casey, if one of your clients, let's just say, had a house fire and a page would be set up for them to help them out, would you donate?" His immediate answer was "of course". That was exactly her point. There are good people out there willing to help get you through the worst of times in one way or another. That's what life's all about. Spreading kindness and lending a hand wherever you can.

After work yesterday, I went to the hospital to visit with Dr. Casey and Lori. Despite being in extreme pain it did not crush his spirits. Lori is absolutely exhausted but is trying to hold it all together. All Casey could say is that he is so worried about getting back to work and caring for his patients. I couldn’t tell you when I have ever heard someone in the ICU saying they need to get back to work. That should be the furthest thing from his mind right now. But that is Casey. If that isn’t love I don’t know what is. He said he feels awful because he is not there to help his clients and patients.

I know there are many people who wish to make a donation without using the gofundme page. We are accepting cash donations and gift card donations at my office. I will make sure they get to them. My office information is as follows:

Mahoning Valley Animal Hospital
2967 Blakeslee Blvd Dr W
Andreas, PA 18211

I will not go into much more detail about his health because that is not my place. I will tell you that your prayers are working! Please keep them coming!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support.
Best,
Stephanie

An animal loveful story to think about

THE OLD MAN AND HIS DOG

An old man and his dog die in an accident. The two of them then find themselves walking along a dirty long path. On both sides of the path are fences.Behind the fences you can see beautiful meadows and woods,
just the way a person loves it with his dog.

They continue walking and come to a beautiful gate where a person in white robe is standing. "Welcome to heaven" says this one. The old man is happy and wants to enter straight away with his dog. But the door guard stops him.

"Dogs are not allowed here, I'm sorry, but he's not allowed inside!"
"What kind of heaven is this where dogs are not allowed? Says
the old man. "If he's not allowed in, then I'll stay outside with him. He has been my faithful companion all his life, I'm not going to just leave him behind now."

"You must know what you are doing - but I warn you, the devil is on this path and will try to persuade you to stop in with him. He will promise you all sorts of things but no dogs are welcome at his place either. If you do not leave your dog
here now, then you will remain on this dirty, stony path for all eternity."

The old man continues walking with his dog. They come to a down
trampled fence with no gate, just a hole. An old man is standing inside. "Excuse me, my dog and I are very tired, may we come in for a moment and sit in the shade for a bit"?

"But of course, come on in, there is also under the tree.
Water. Feel free to make yourself comfortable!" "Are you sure my dog can come in too? A man down the road there told me that dogs aren't allowed anywhere around here."

"Would you come in, then, if your dog had to stay outside?"

"No, sir, that's not why I went to heaven. If dogs aren't welcome there, we'd rather stay on the path for all eternity. We would be satisfied with a little water and shade. There's no way I'm coming in if my darling has to stay outside."

The man smiles and says, "Welcome to heaven."

"That down there was the devil, who brings to himself all the people who want to have a comfortable life and are willing to give up the most faithful companion of their lives for it. These soon find out that it was a mistake, but then it is too late. The dogs come here, but the bad people stay there. God would never banish the dogs from heaven! He created them to accompany people in life, so why should he separate both in death ?

Hutch was such a brave boy and did so well with his procedure today. He had a re-check and everything looks good. Thank you to Dr. Runde and the staff at Northeast Veterinary Referral Hospital, for giving our boy such wonderful care today. I cannot say enough positive things about this hospital.
