Originally built in 1735, Oakdene has undergone various additions and renovations throughout its history, and is a Baltimore County Historic Landmark. As a "boutique" barn, we offer a small, quiet operation featuring miles of trails along the Jones Falls waterway and over 150 acres of open fields to ride in. t, minutes from Downtown Baltimore and Towson. Beginning as a tobacco plantation in 1700, Summerfield has been farmed continuously for over 300 years. With its location in the heart of the Greenspring Valley, the property was a regular hunting fixture of the Greenspring Valley Hounds and served as the original location of the Maryland Hunt Cup. Today, Summerfield Stables offers full care stall board, field board, and retirement board. Our operation is capped at 12 horses (6 stall boarders and 6 field boarders). Our distinctive stone stables were designed to stay cool in the summer and retain heat in the winter, with very large, matted stalls and fans. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Patricia Bennett. An incredibly talented artist that specialized in live painting, Patricia was our “artist in residence” at Oakdene, painting horses and chickens, weddings and birthdays, and hosting her popular en-plain-air art classes around the farm. Pensioners in Paradise: former Kingfisher stable mates and Md Hunt Cup contenders, Across the Sky and Prospectors Strike, were recently reunited and are enjoying reliving their golden days here at Oakdene. Pictured below are Sky (Fritz Boniface up) and Striker (Justin Batoff up) in the paddock of the 2010 MDHC and over the 16th fence, respectively. Sky would lead the race until refusing at the 20th. Striker would follow suit, refusing the water jump while in the lead in the 2013 MDHC. Ironically, their current turn out covers the finish line of the original (pre-1920s) Md Hunt Cup course.
