Story time everyone ♥️

Days after Petey passed away I found myself on PetFinder desperately trying to find any cat that reminded me of him. I went through 46 pages- not one cat came even close to resembling him. I felt sad. I felt a lot of things.

In the middle of the night on April 6th I woke up to the sweetest photo from Samantha who most of you know, was Petey’s foster mom. Half asleep and emotional, I thanked her for finding a baby photo of Petey- but as I woke up some more, used my brain, and read her response- I remembered.. Petey was found alone. And the picture she sent me was a newborn with a mama cat and other babies.

This little angel was born the day before which was 1 week after Petey passed away. He spent a lot of time in the birth canal- was breach and stuck- and came out not breathing or moving with fluid in his airways. Sam wasn’t sure if he was going to make it, but he did 🙂 - because she is the bomb, of course!

I’ve watched this little one grow into the most handsome little man over the last 2 months. I was very back and forth wondering if I should add him to our family, but every time I considered not- I kept telling myself I would regret it. There were just too many coincidences and it made me feel like Petey sent him to me.

What are the odds that this little munchkin was born to a mama cat that Samantha rescued? One week after Petey’s passing.. being picked up today which is actually Pepita’s birthday and 1 week after Petey’s birthday. Pepita and Petey were a bonded pair when they were babies- so the perfect birthday gift! (Only probably not- she’s become a little ornery in her old age 😂).. and one last odd yet funny coincidence. One random day over the last 2 weeks I wanted some “boy cat name” inspiration so I googled just that and clicked on the first link that came up. The very first name on the list was “Blaze”- Petey’s foster name. 🥺💙 to me, that was my final sign that he needed to join the family. Out of all the names in the world, right?

This little one doesn’t have a name yet as I need to get to know him. Although, my step-dad is trying to convince me to name him “Repeat” 😂

Happy 1st Heavenly Birthday, Petey. You would have been 9 years young today ♥️ to say simply that I miss you doesn’t do my feelings justice. I wish things were different. I look back at the photos of your last few weeks and I hate how sick you looked- it just makes me cry. But you were still so sweet, snuggly, and boy did you love to eat.

I’m going to try my best to let today be a happy day. We have raised over $300 in your honor to go to mama Sam.. she loved you so much too. She will be able to help lots of other babies just like she helped you.

Later today during our live stream your brothers and sisters are going to have a chimken party to celebrate your birthday. I wish you could be here for it, but I hope you are having your own chimken party- and I hope you’ve invited Sofie, Douglas, Allie, Buddy, Snickers, Lilybean, Shrimpy, PIP, and so many others that our friends and followers mention to me that they have loved and miss dearly 💔

Until we are reunited, my sweet boy. I love you. Happy Birthday 💕

03/21/24 PETEY UPDATE

Well, it’s reality now. 😞 Petey has large cell lymphoma. I’m relieved to finally have a diagnosis but also just feeling helpless.

The critical care vet we dealt with over the weekend reiterated to me that she still felt we were in a great spot and is encouraging an oncology consult and treatment. Of course, I agreed. We have an appointment with oncology on Tuesday at 0900.

I’m currently sitting in the waiting room with Max for an appointment trying not to be sad but my head is spinning.

I have absolutely no idea what this is going to cost us. I will update everyone as soon as I have a treatment plan. So I am pushing forward and continuing on with fundraising efforts. That’s all I can do right now. 💔

Thank you everyone for taking this ride with us- it’s been rough.

Guys! We have almost COMPLETELY covered Petey's bill from the weekend at Blue Pearl! We are just $331.66 shy of covering it in full! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am hoping and praying for results today- Blue Pearl told me yesterday on occasion the outside lab can get backed up and they have no control over how long it takes- which is understandable. I am just really anxious and inpatient right now. Please send us all the good vibes! ❤

**3/16 OFFICIAL PETEY UPDATE POST**

I am going to keep everything to one post so everyone can follow along. I brought Petey to the vet this morning- she found he was very dehydrated and said he needed critical care ASAP and a specialist. More care than she could provide. She made a call to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital (in Tampa, FL) and spoke to the critical care vet who said to bring him directly there.

She is VERY optimistic for Petey. She told me she can actually palpate small masses (lymph) which is surprising based off of the findings from the ultrasound we had on Monday. She said although I feel like it’s taken forever to get to this point, she feels like our timeline is good.. and definitely feels he is an excellent candidate for chemotherapy.

Blue Pearl is an emergency and specialty hospital- they have an oncology department so we are really right where we need to be.

I just signed off on Blue Pearl to do a US guided fine needle aspirate of the ugliest lymph node they can find, updated blood work, and chest x-rays. She said she would love to keep him overnight for fluids and monitoring, but is ok with me taking him home and giving him subcutaneous fluids. If I kept him here overnight with everything- it would have been $4297.20- which I just could not fathom.

Our total cost for all of this is $2,694.75.

We have raised $1,316.96. If anyone would like to make any contribution towards these tests, it would be very much appreciated as I have NO idea what is in store for us. We will have results on Monday and likely be referred to the oncology department for a chemotherapy consult.

Back off to work this morning.. opened my bedroom door to be greeted by the clan- including Petey who came in to inspect their bowls from the night before. He was ready to eat this morning but of course turned his snoot up to his usual Hills and fortiflora fare 🙄 so I gave him a little bit of what everyone else was having and he gobbled it up! I’m letting it slide because he’s eating and that makes me happy PLUS- I have not seen any diarrhea accidents in a few days. In fact, about 3 days ago, I think I possibly found 1 formed singular p**p that I am 99.9% sure came from him 😂 sorry to be graphic but this is a big deal!

Yesterday the vet called me to let me know his B12 value came back

Petey didn’t have the best night last night.. he definitely was dealing with side effects from cerenia.. wouldn’t eat, was acting lethargic, wobbly.. it was rough. Twice I laid on the floor with him just to make sure he was ok. This morning wasn’t much better. But when I stopped home during my shift- he was savagely destroying treats and that made me so happy as this morning he barely even licked them- which is NOT like him. I’ll be home soon and hoping he’ll want to eat his favorite wets 🙂

Hi everyone,

Posting an update for fund raising efforts. I requested Plummer Pet Hospital to send me an actual estimate so I can share it with everyone. It seems to be a little different than the rough verbal estimate I received over the phone yesterday which has me a little frazzled, but here it is.

I have had some people asking for their information so they can donate directly to the hospital on our account. They are more than happy to accept pre-payments. You just have to let them know it is for Petey under Caitlyn Miller for our appointment on 03/18.

I have also included his ultrasound report from Monday for you to see what we are up against.

So far in total, we have raised $853.35 in donations from PayPal, Venmo, and cashapp. I spent $236.69 today at the vet leaving us with a current balance of $616.66 to go towards Monday’s appointment.

Again- I am so thankful. I adore and appreciate every single one of you. Please know I am reading all of your comments and your messages.

Petey update 03/12: we saw the ER vet this morning where she practices. She is nervous about Petey going under for the FNA just given his weight and overall condition. Petey will have an exam by the vet who is going to perform the FNA prior, so if he were to tell me that he felt it was too risky then it is what it is and I’d opt out.

We ran a malabsorption panel on Petey to help determine some supplements that could be helpful or some other directions to go in- really just to give us more information on what is going on inside his little body. Any information is helpful at this point.

I am going to start a regimen of Pepcid, cerenia and carafate for him as I have noticed he’s starting to grind his teeth when eating which is likely due to GI discomfort.

I am also starting him on a supplement daily to help with nutrition, hydration and recuperation.

As I like to be transparent with all of you, this was today’s invoice ♥️

Hi guys.. it's been a while.

I tried to make a GoFundMe for Petey, but it is currently paused to make sure my fundraiser follows their Terms of Service- whatever that means.

I do not want to ask y'all, but I am very emotional and just desperate at this time. I know life is hard as it is. I know most of y'all have your own animals. I know we are all collectively struggling. This was just a hit I wasn't expecting- especially not for him.

I have scheduled an appointment for Petey at Plummer Pet Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL next Monday for another US and FNA (fine needle aspirate) so we can determine which type of cancer we are dealing with and what his treatment options may be. If I would have known that an FNA would likely be something I would have potentially needed, I would not have gone to where I did today (they were so sweet though!) and would have picked a place that could also do the aspirate at the same time but this place was recommended by the vet I had previously seen so that is where I went.

I am going to post my GoFundMe, but I do not think it can currently take donations.

Right now as it is, their exam fee is $50, US is $390, and cytology per location is $178.50. I will also likely need sedation as well- so a rough estimate given to me over the phone was $750.

Conclusion
1. Multicentric round cell neoplasia, such as lymphoma of the spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes DDx:
feline infectious peritonitis, lymphoid hyperplasia, extramedullary hematopoiesis, reactive lymphadenopathy
2. Hepatobiliary disease such as cholangiohepatitis DDx: metabolic vacuolar hepatopathy, infiltrative round
cell neoplasia such as lymphoma
3. Enteritis DDx: inflammatory bowel disease, alimentary round cell neoplasia
4. Renal disease such as pyelonephritis or interstitial nephritis
5. Small volume peritoneal effusion DDx: neoplastic, inflammatory
6. Incidental bilobed gall bladder

Recommendations
Suggest fine needle aspirates of the spleen and amenable lymph nodes for cytologic evaluation.
