Before the week ends, we would like to honor our other Veteran currently in our Program, Stephanie White.
Stephanie White enlisted in the US Army as a slick sleeved Private (E-1), MOS 91T, Animal Care Specialist, where she worked in traditional clinics, assisted in research, managed the rabies bite program, conducted food inspections, oversaw a 50-patient Military Working Dog deployed hospital in Korea and instructed new Soldiers at the 91T schoolhouse. She transitioned to the USA Reserve (USAR) while continuing her education at Texas A&M University and was deployed with the first reserve veterinary unit in theater to support OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. She also served as a 79V, Career Counselor in the USAR.
Upon completing her education, she transitioned from a MSGT (E-8) in the USAR to a First Lieutenant (1LT) in the US Air Force (USAF) as a Public Health (PH) Officer, overseeing the food inspection, entomology, STD & Latent TB, hearing conservation, medical deployment clearance and fetal protection programs across multiple installations and deployed locations during her 14 ½ career. After being selected for and completing an MS Entomology degree she spent the latter portion of her career fulfilling roles as an entomologist, including instructing at the PH schoolhouse and as the USAF-Europe & Africa Command Entomologist her last four years in service.
She retired as a Major (O-4) to College Station in August 2023 after a career spanning 35 ½ years, serving in over 12 countries, 5 states and 4 deployments. Her awards include: MSM (Meritorious Service Medal), JSAM (Joint Service Accommodation Medal), ASCM (Air & Space Commendation Medal), ACM (Army Commendation Medal), JSAM (Joint Service Achievement Medal), ASAM & AAM (Air & Space and Army Achievement Medals), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, GWOT Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
Despite dabbling in caring for 2-legged humans and 6-8 legged arthropod critters, her heart and true passion belong to all creatures great and small in the veterinary realm. She decided to apply to the Blinn College Veterinary Technician program to pursue her goal of becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician and finally returning to veterinary medicine. She is currently a member of Aggie Pets With A Purpose (APWAP) helping to foster the benefits of the human-animal bond within our local community.
Stephanie states, “My time in the military provided me with the tools for navigating life, allowed me to experience cultures outside the US, meet and make friendships with AMAZING people, meet & marry my better half and instilled a sense of duty, honor, integrity and dedication that is an enduring foundation that serve me well every day.”
🇺🇸THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE STEPHANIE! 🇺🇸
