Today, we share some sad news on behalf of our Valley West Equestrian Center and South Wind Sport Horse family. Yesterday afternoon, our beloved community member, River, had a tragic accident. At the fault of no one, she spooked and slipped, resulting in a broken leg that led to her passing.

At the request of her owner, Michele, we’re sharing this with all of you to spare her from the difficulty of recounting the loss.

River may have only been with us for a year, but she captured the hearts of everyone who had the chance to know her. Michele had just adopted River and was eagerly preparing for their journey together in training. River and Michele’s other horse, Vern, were inseparable – best friends who shared turnout time and never wanted to be far from each other.

We invite you to share your memories and thoughts of River here, as we remember her for the joy, love, and companionship she brought to our barn family. Michele appreciates your support, but asks that all questions be directed to Alissa and Josie. Your condolences will mean the world to her during this difficult time.

Rest easy, sweet River. You will be deeply missed. 🩷

Josie and Rocco even trotted away with a blue ribbon! 🥇
Congrats to everyone who showed, and thank you to all our barn that came out to show their support! Special congrats to all of the students of South Wind Sport Horse in their classes! We are super happy to be a part of such a talented and supportive community!
