Did you know that EVERY dog has certain health conditions that they are genetically prone to developing simply because of their specific breed?

What can you do to help?
By supporting ethical breeders who do the available health testing for the breed’s predisposed conditions, you are helping to lessen the amount of dogs affected by those conditions.

If you want to know more about your breed’s genetic predispositions, look them up on this website https://ofa.org by clicking on “Browse By Breed” then search for your breed. You can see the recommended health testing that should be done on each breed.

If your breeder isn’t doing health testing on their breeding dogs, find a better breeder!

When you buy from an ethical breeder you are investing in the future of your favorite breed.

**OFA is not the only organization that does health testing. There are other organizations a breeder can use. OFA was only mentioned as an easily accessible and reputable website for you to begin your own research.**

The OFA website and databases provide the tools needed to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease.

I’ve seen this circulating a couple times, and have to agree. You can’t claim to know what you’re breeding if you never train or work the dog regularly.

Aja got her turn in the snow today too! She was so good at sniffing the ball out when it got buried beneath the foot of snow we have. Her sable coat is like camouflage by the woodline. She is a beauty though, isn’t she? ❄️

2023 in review for Kennel zu Trojas Ehren:

-We produced our “B” litter. (Krieg and Bina)
-Bresty required a c-section, developed mastitis, then went septic, developed a massive wound, and took a very long time to recover and heal. But thankfully she did. It was a very scary and stressful time. This put her training and trialing on the back burner, but her life was far more valuable than worrying about that. She will have her time to shine in the upcoming year.
-Found the perfect home for Krieg. Bina stayed with us.
-Raised Bina from a sq**rt to a pup to an almost one year old. I’ve enjoyed her so much. I absolutely adore pretty much everything about her. Even when she’s an a**hole. She’s my a**hole, ya know? 🥹
-Aja had her glow up (in my opinion.) Did another conformation show. Earned her AD. The first two years of her life were mostly dedicated to training in PSA, but our plans changed abruptly this summer when our PSA club director moved unexpectedly, and the club dissolved. We switched over to IGP, and have began a new foundation for that. Aja has matured into this angelic house dog who is sweet and has manners. She has become a hardcore warrior in our training. We began seriously tracking this year. She’s very good at it! She is so fun. Our bond is pretty great. SHE is pretty great. 🥹
-Imported Xoltan from one of most well-known and respected GSD kennels in the world (Kennel Jabina.) He’s a special pup, and his future is looking bright. Solid pup all the way around.
-Bresty was re-conditioned and began training again. Big goals for the future with her.
-We’ve spent a good deal of time with our older, companion dogs as well. They have been our best friends for many years, and feel they deserve to be mentioned in our write up too. Abby, Levi, and Fargo- the three homestead royals. The queen and kings of our home and property. We love them dearly, and are blessed to be going into another new year with them.

For 2024, we hope for good health, good training, and if it’s in the cards, a few more titles. We send all our friends and followers our best wishes, and hope to see you all at future dog events. Happy New Year!!!

Our Story

My name is Jessica. I was born and raised in rural West Virginia. When I was 10 years old my family got our very first German Shepherd, and that started my love for the breed. Then as an adult living on my on my own, my first dog I purchased was a German Shepherd. I named him Troy. A year or so later I met my husband, Matt, who had never had a dog before in his life. I introduced him to Troy and this started his love for the German Shepherd breed. After Matt moved in with Troy and I, we soon acquired our next German Shepherd, Abby. Over the years we just kept adding on to our family. After Abby we added Levi, then Sadie, then Questa (R.I.P.), then Fargo, and Jorka. We started out as just pet owners loving our fur-family, and now have worked our way into the dog sport world that is full of amazing, working and sporting dogs. We love seeing the dogs in action and progressing through different levels of obedience and sports to achieve their highest capabilities. Over the years, we have learned the importance not only of health testing our dogs prior to breeding, but also the importance of breeding the proper dogs together in regards to drive, temperament, nerves, and workability. We are still learning every day, but are loving every minute of it. Our goal is to raise and produce healthy dogs with correct form, character, and workability to uphold the German Shepherd breed standard.

After 9 wonderful years, our first GSD at the Leech household, Troy, passed away on August 1, 2020. We just finished building our kennel facility and wanted to find the perfect name. After lots of brainstorming we came up with “zu Trojas Ehren.” It is German for “in Troy’s honor.” This name sounds traditional, but is also unique and sentimental to us. This name will allow Troy to live on through our kennel successes and future puppies that will carry our kennel name. We are German Shepherd lovers. We are zu Trojas Ehren. Welcome to our page.
