We are continuing with big dog shares today.

This bonded pair has touched all of our hearts but they have yet to find someone to commit to be their forever home. Will you all join us in sharing them again?

Booda Bear and Shyela Lou are the best of friends! Their nicknames are "Mr. and Mrs. Goodpuppy! This pair have lived most of their lives together and the hope is that they will find an adoptive home where they can remain together. Booda is a male, an 11 year old weimaraner mix who weighs 48 pounds. Shyela is a 10 year old, female, tri-color hound mix who weighs 49 pounds. Aren't they are a good looking pair? We are told that they "really take care of each other."

These friends have been well socialized with other dogs, spending time at the local dog park. Booda really liked the cat they used to share their home with. Shyela wanted to chase the cat but once she learned the kitty was not a toy to be chased, she did well. Shyela and Booda have never been around babies or toddlers. Both dogs have liked older children.

Shyela and Booda are crate-trained and are accustomed to staying in their crate when one must leave them at home. Booda does get anxious when his human leaves, it helps that he can go into his crate and feel secure and have his gal pal close by. Shyela and Booda have lived in a home with a dog door leading to a securely fenced yard. This has been great for them to get out to do their business or hang outside when they feel like it. The pair have spent time at a boarding kennel when needed and done well.

In the past, before life changed for their humans, they were accustomed to daily walks. Now that one human has passed away and the other human's health is not good, they don't get out for walks as they used to but instead take trips to the dog park. Time to walk on leash could be appreciated though their leash skills are a little "rusty". Booda and Shyela are smart dogs who want to please their human. The belief is with some treats, they could learn better leash manners. They know several commands. Shyela and Booda can both manage stairs at this time.

As dogs will do, Booda and Shyela bark. According to their human, Booda barks for a reason while Shylea just joins in! We are told Booda barks less now that he's older. Shyela may be coaxed into barking less with treats and attention.

When asked to describe Booda, this is what we were told: "He's very protective of any dog he sees that is sad, even a complete stranger. He'll go over and stand next to this sad pup, like at the doggie park, to help it feel better. I've also seen him come over and stand very quietly
and passively next to a dog being somewhat harshly corrected for something, as if to ask, “Is there anything I can do to help?” There's not the slightest hint of aggression or threat coming from him, his eyes just seem to be saying, “Please.” And it often works. You could say he's a very caring pacifist. Come to think of it, it's as if he's living up to his name, Booda, like the original Buddha."

Shylea is described as "Very lively and playful for a 10-year-old and loves to play, like fetch and with doggie toys. If she's outside when you return home and you've been gone a while, she might start jumping “verticals” to show you how happy she is to see you. In other words she might start jumping for joy. She's also very, very sweet and loving, and has these big brown eyes that look at you sometimes in such an innocent and loving way it just melts
your heart. She's definitely a sweetie pie."

Booda and Shyela have been well-loved dogs. Their owner has kept up with their care as best he could. It would be wonderful to help them find a home where they will remain together and continue to be cared for and cherished as they have for so long

Shyela and Booda are located in Sequim, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

Each time we share Gracie, we look into those eyes and wonder, WHY hasn't anyone offered to adopt her yet? She certainly sounds like a lovely, gentle soul.

Gracie eagerly awaits the perfect person or family to help her break free from her shyness. This beauty is an 8 year old, 55 pound German Shepherd and Jindo mix.

After surviving five months as a stray, trust doesn't come easily to her, but her longing for love shines through in every interaction with her foster family. You'll often catch her approaching, ready to offer a lick or a curious sniff, yearning for that special connection.

When meeting Gracie you will notice she has an unusual stride. It's a testament to her resilience, a reminder of an injury she was born with that has failed to slow her down. Despite her unique gait, she moves with a perky energy, which reflects her unwavering spirit.

Gracie enjoys the playful chaos of other dogs and finds comfort and joy in their camaraderie, which is why a multi-pup household would be a great match for her. She does need a fenced though; a safe place where she can explore and bond securely with her new person or family.

With unwavering commitment and a sprinkle of patience, Gracie is destined to thrive. Her gentle nature and unwavering affection has a special place in the hearts of her foster family, and in a forever home, she's poised to blossom into the vibrant soul she was always meant to be.

Gracie is posted for Useless Bay Sanctuary. She is located in Woodinville, WA. For more information about Gracie and how to adopt her, please email: [email protected]

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

ADOPTION PENDING

Howdy! My name is Nacho. I came to Washington state 2 years ago from an out of state shelter. I was brought to Washington and adopted right out from the transport van to a nice lady. The people that brought me here told the nice lady I was 8 years old. That makes me 10 years old now. I am a chihuahua and I'll admit since I came to the nice lady I've put on some weight. I weigh almost 19 pounds now. That's too much weight for my frame so I should go on a gradual weight loss plan.

It took some time for me to learn trust. My lady was very patient with me, sitting and waiting for me to come to her. She talked to me nicely and gave me treats. Finally I decided she was OK. I'd been through a lot to get here-a scary shelter after my former person died. Then there was a LONG drive with strangers and other scared, barking dogs. I thought I'd finally reached my forever home but sadly, my lady is now unable to keep me and there is no "back up plan" with the people that drove me here. So here I am, in need of rehoming again and this time, I sure hope it's truly for forever!

When I arrived at my home there was another dog. It was an older dog and slightly bigger than me. That dog was no threat to me so I liked it. I would sometimes share a bed with him. But one day he was sick and he left, never to return. I may like another dog, if they are mellow and friendly but not too pushy!. I have never seen a cat before. I do see squirrels in the yard and I chase them. Does that mean I'd chase a cat? I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is that I don't like kids. I don't want to live in a home with them because they are unpredictable and loud. I am an anxious boy so I want an adult home where there is not a lot of coming and going.

Speaking of coming and going, my lady is busy, busy here, and people are coming and going. It has made me nervous. My lady took me to the dog doctor and they gave her some pills to make me sleepy and less on edge. You see, I'm not a social butterfly. When people come to the house, I run to my lady's room and hide. I have not a mean bone in my body. I am a sweet, loving boy once I get to know and trust you.

My lady has a dog door and that has worked for me to go in and out to do my business as needed. I like to go outside and sit when it's nice. But please, keep me safe! I need a securely fenced yard and please watch for predators. While I may be a bigger boy, once I slim down I may be at risk for hungry wildlife! I hold my potty overnight just fine so you can shut that doggy door when we go to bed.

At night I love to sleep in the bed with my lady. She has a dog bed that I lie in on her bed. I don't like to snuggle under the covers so you can have those all to yourself. I like to share the couch with my person and sometimes sit on her lap. I'd prefer not to be squeezed or hugged tight, that makes me worry. I will bark when I hear other dogs barking but aside from that, I'm not much of a barker.

My lady will tell you that she's not exercised me in the time she's had me. I don't go on walks and I'm not accustomed to walking on a leash. I'm not sure what to do when a leash is attached to me! Maybe I could learn to go for walks? I don't feel as though I'm missing out on anything however I really do need to get exercise. Not just because I'm overweight but because moving is good for everyone! I love to play with toys and run around and explore my yard. My lady plays with me, it's fun for me and it makes her smile. I can still manage stairs just fine.

At my age, I'm a young senior for my breed. I could live for many years to come if I'm taken care of properly. Regular vet care, good dog food and exercise could mean I hang around for a long time to come! I sure hope my next human can manage this for me and will keep me for the rest of my days. It's hard for a fellow like me to keep losing people! I am ready to start my happily ever after."

"For many people, their pets are like family. That's why, according to Forbes, Americans spent over $136 billion on their pets in 2022. One of the things people are spending money on is boarding facilities for daycare or when they're out of town. If you need to trust your beloved pup in someone's hands, you want to find the right facility. Here are three qualities to look for in a dog boarding business."

Lovely Fiona is such a sweet dog! She impresses everyone she meets with her friendly, affectionate nature. Fiona is about 8 years old. She weighs 60 pounds. Fiona is a lovely mixed breed girl, perhaps boxer with shar pei or a mastiff.

Fiona's rescuers were asked by a vet clinic to take her into care when her former owner brought her in to be put to sleep. The technicians and vet gushed over how sweet and cooperative Fiona was. She received rave reviews!

Poor girl, she's had a hard few years. Her family separated, her health deteriorated, and little was done about it. She was deligated to outdoor living with very little to no fur to protect her.

Fiona is crate trained and she travels well in the car. She is nicely house trained and very loyal. Fiona loves people! Her rescuers believe that she'd probably be okay in a home with a docile, male dog. It is unknown how she would do with cats. Fiona would also do well as an only dog that has attention from her people. She'd be happy sitting on the porch, watching TV with you, cuddling on the sofa or taking an evening stroll. She is a shadow-dog that just prefers being close to her people. She does know how to wait patiently for her people to come home.

Fiona would be a great companion for an individual or couple who enjoy a gentle K-9 presence that is loyal but not overly demanding. She'd be happiest with an owner who is retired, works from home or only part time.

Fiona's rescuers are hoping to find this lovely girl a new family that will dote on her and keep her as a happy, spoiled pet for the rest of her days. She'll return your love with affection and devotion.

Fiona is posted for SPOT (Saving Pets One at a Time) located in Burlington, WA.
If you are interested in Fiona, please go to their website, www.savingpetsoneatatime.org, to submit a dog adoption application.

Meet Charlotte! ❤ This sweet girl desperately needs a home. Charlotte is a 13mo Black Mouth Cur/Sheppard mix. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all shots, potty trained, crate trained, regularly flea/worm treated. I can not speak enough praise about this girl, she truly is so amazing. I can not keep her, I already have 2 dogs and 2 middle school kids. I have her because her owner didn’t have the time to invest in her and she was living in a crate or chained up in a back yard, definitely not an ideal environment. I still believe taking her in to a home where she could roam and play with other dogs/kids and have a chance to just ‘be’ was a better choice than her being crate bound. She does not have behavior issues, she’s not aggressive, intimidated, or assertive. She absolutely needs some help with training, she’s still a puppy, but she’s incredibly smart and willing to please! She’s great with other dogs, very playful. She doesn’t have great recall yet, but is also not bothered by distractions (cats, squirrels, shiny things). She absolutely LOVES kids! She is also a 70lb puppy, so would do better in a home with older kids. She’s scheduled to be surrendered 6/20 and I desperately do not want to put her in a shelter. If you’ve been looking for a pup to join your family, and you want a goofy oversized lap dog… please reach out!! Charlotte is the best and would absolutely be an amazing addition to a loving home! 🐾

🏠 Animals listed with Home to Home are NOT located at AVHS, this program was created as a positive alternative to surrendering to a shelter.

We have a neighbor in need! There's a beautiful chocolate lab that has a ton of energy that needs a new home. She has been very difficult for the owner to contain because she has a small yard. This dog probably wouldn't do well with smaller dogs in the home although seems to be doing fine with larger dogs. The dog seriously need some training. She is smart and does respond when the right pressure is applied. She is a purebred although there are no papers. She likely is under 2 years old. She needs an active family. She needs a giant yard that is secure. She needs structure. There's a lot of history that goes along with rehoming this dog. It is not an easy choice for any owner to do this. There was a reason that she took the dog with her when she left a precarious situation. If you know of anyone who might want a beautiful purebred chocolate lab as a running partner or a family pet please have them reach out to me.

“Are you looking for a new cuddle buddy who loves laps? Perhaps I'm your boy! My name is Leonidas or Leo for short. I am an 11 pound, 11 year old chihuahua in need of an adoptive home.

I am used to living with another dog. I am shy at first when meeting other dogs. I am not aggressive so please don't allow me to be bullied! I've never lived with a kitty so I can't say if I could or not. Kids can be nice if they are old enough to be gentle and kind. My people will tell you that it's hard to find a photo of me when I'm not in someone's lap or cuddled up under a blanket.

I am all chi! Blanket burrowing and sunbathing are chihuahua traits and I do both and thoroughly enjoy them. I spend my time in a kennel during the day when my people leave the house and I sleep in my kennel at night. It's helpful to have a dog who will go in a kennel without issue-for travel and sometimes for our own safety. Hey! Maybe you are looking for a dog who will want to share the bed with you? I may like that-warm and snuggly in bed! But if not, that's OK, just please share your lap with me sometimes.

When you must leave the house I am fine to stay home in my kennel and I can go for a few hours before I need a potty break. However, if you want to take me in the car, I can do that too! I get excited for car rides. I'm not much of a barker except to let you know that the mail has arrived-you are welcome! I'm more of a whiny guy. "They" say whiny; I say non-barking sounds. I do this when I'm excited or when I need to come inside or go outside. Barking is just not my thing.

While I don't need a lot of exercise, it is good for me. I am well behaved on leash so we can take leisurely strolls and enjoy all of the sights and smells. I can handle stairs without any issue. Given my age and breed, I'm still a young senior! I'd like to believe I have a lot more years ahead of me. With regular vet care and good dog food, my hope is to remain forever in the same home for the rest of my days. I will work hard to make my new family happy with me and love me as much as I can love them!"

"Hi! My name is Faith and I am in need of an adoptive home and SOON! My person describes me as "an amazing, loving, calm dog who is friendly to everyone she meets!".

I was adopted almost 7 years ago from a shelter in Florida. I was a youngster then but I'd already lost my leg. No one remembers how, heck, I don't even remember what happened but for the most part it didn't slow me down through my youth.

I am now about 8 years old, which is by no means ancient! I am a trim 34 pounds. It is important for us tri-pawds to stay trim because we have one less leg to carry ourselves around on. People say I have an interesting, exotic look to me, my breed mix is "your guess is as good as mine!".

I have lived with other dogs in the past and I do prefer the older dogs to young ones. Because I'm on 3 legs, I don't want to worry about hyper energy! A friendly old dog might be good company to have. I wouldn't mind being an only dog but I know those homes can be hard to find. I have been good with cats and children who are gentle.

Once I move and settle in, I imagine I can be fine staying home without an issue. I don't have a problem with that now but I have had the same human for a very long time. We did the move to Washington because she needed help for her own health. It is sad that now she can no longer care for me. Her hope is to find someone who will love me and give me the lifelong care and home I need. Just please keep in mind all dogs should be shown patience and compassion when we are rehomed.

I have arthritis and the vet told my human I will need something to help my joints and joint pain. I hear there are a lot of options and am hopeful my new human will be able to provide something for me. Just because I have arthritis doesn't mean I can't take walks! I love my walks and I am a good girl on leash. My human tells me I will see new places and new smells in my new home, that sure sounds nice. Stairs are difficult so I'd rather not have a home with them, unless you can carry me up and down them, probably best not to go there. I can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks, that's helpful, right?

My human has been trying to find a good person to adopt me. She says people only want puppies! But why would you want that when you can have an older dog who already knows how to be loyal and understands what people need in a dog?

If you are looking for a new best friend, I could be the one for you! I am loving and cuddly.
I am ready to start my new life with someone who will appreciate the companionship I have to offer for the rest of my days!"
