I will never shop at Petco again. I occasionally stop in here to get bird food and other items. 3 months ago when I rescued those two kitties I purchased two crates to hopefully send them home in. I did end up rehoming the kitties and I ended up not using one of the crates. The zip ties were still on the packaging was all still there nothing had been opened. I of course have gotten rid of the receipt because it was so long ago. I asked if I could return it for store credit. And they said no. Really?! It's brand new it's obvious that it's never been used. Absolutely unbelievable the customer service has come to this. What is wrong in today's world?! So I'm done I can get my bird food and my other supplies somewhere else. They quit carrying my favorite brand of kitty litter and now this. I have absolutely nothing nice to say about them at this point. They need to reevaluate their customer service. All companies should reevaluate what customer service should look like. Instead they're all just money-mongerers. I will never charge people for something that they didn't use or didn't get. I will never charge people for something that benefits me more than it does them. Sometimes our time should be given and not charged for. Just my rant for the day.

Just yesterday, we shared the news of 100 cats arriving at our already overcapacity shelter. Today, we took in 10 dogs, injured and ailing, from another heartbreaking situation.

Two of these dogs are in especially dire condition. One is missing both front limbs, and another is a tripod with an injury to her remaining front leg. Both are suffering from severe dental disease and will likely need extensive oral surgery, along with the nine others who also require medical care.

We know it’s hard to see, but we want to share a look at the challenges we face every day with you, our community. With your support, we can continue to make a life-changing difference for the animals who need us most.

ADOPTED TOGETHER

We are continuing with big dog shares today.

This bonded pair has touched all of our hearts but they have yet to find someone to commit to be their forever home. Will you all join us in sharing them again?

Booda Bear and Shyela Lou are the best of friends! Their nicknames are "Mr. and Mrs. Goodpuppy! This pair have lived most of their lives together and the hope is that they will find an adoptive home where they can remain together. Booda is a male, an 11 year old weimaraner mix who weighs 48 pounds. Shyela is a 10 year old, female, tri-color hound mix who weighs 49 pounds. Aren't they are a good looking pair? We are told that they "really take care of each other."

These friends have been well socialized with other dogs, spending time at the local dog park. Booda really liked the cat they used to share their home with. Shyela wanted to chase the cat but once she learned the kitty was not a toy to be chased, she did well. Shyela and Booda have never been around babies or toddlers. Both dogs have liked older children.

Shyela and Booda are crate-trained and are accustomed to staying in their crate when one must leave them at home. Booda does get anxious when his human leaves, it helps that he can go into his crate and feel secure and have his gal pal close by. Shyela and Booda have lived in a home with a dog door leading to a securely fenced yard. This has been great for them to get out to do their business or hang outside when they feel like it. The pair have spent time at a boarding kennel when needed and done well.

In the past, before life changed for their humans, they were accustomed to daily walks. Now that one human has passed away and the other human's health is not good, they don't get out for walks as they used to but instead take trips to the dog park. Time to walk on leash could be appreciated though their leash skills are a little "rusty". Booda and Shyela are smart dogs who want to please their human. The belief is with some treats, they could learn better leash manners. They know several commands. Shyela and Booda can both manage stairs at this time.

As dogs will do, Booda and Shyela bark. According to their human, Booda barks for a reason while Shylea just joins in! We are told Booda barks less now that he's older. Shyela may be coaxed into barking less with treats and attention.

When asked to describe Booda, this is what we were told: "He's very protective of any dog he sees that is sad, even a complete stranger. He'll go over and stand next to this sad pup, like at the doggie park, to help it feel better. I've also seen him come over and stand very quietly
and passively next to a dog being somewhat harshly corrected for something, as if to ask, “Is there anything I can do to help?” There's not the slightest hint of aggression or threat coming from him, his eyes just seem to be saying, “Please.” And it often works. You could say he's a very caring pacifist. Come to think of it, it's as if he's living up to his name, Booda, like the original Buddha."

Shylea is described as "Very lively and playful for a 10-year-old and loves to play, like fetch and with doggie toys. If she's outside when you return home and you've been gone a while, she might start jumping “verticals” to show you how happy she is to see you. In other words she might start jumping for joy. She's also very, very sweet and loving, and has these big brown eyes that look at you sometimes in such an innocent and loving way it just melts
your heart. She's definitely a sweetie pie."

Booda and Shyela have been well-loved dogs. Their owner has kept up with their care as best he could. It would be wonderful to help them find a home where they will remain together and continue to be cared for and cherished as they have for so long

Shyela and Booda are located in Sequim, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Booda and Shyela are not Old Dog Haven dogs. Old Dog Haven has not assessed these dogs for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

ADOPTED

Each time we share Gracie, we look into those eyes and wonder, WHY hasn't anyone offered to adopt her yet? She certainly sounds like a lovely, gentle soul.

Gracie eagerly awaits the perfect person or family to help her break free from her shyness. This beauty is an 8 year old, 55 pound German Shepherd and Jindo mix.

After surviving five months as a stray, trust doesn't come easily to her, but her longing for love shines through in every interaction with her foster family. You'll often catch her approaching, ready to offer a lick or a curious sniff, yearning for that special connection.

When meeting Gracie you will notice she has an unusual stride. It's a testament to her resilience, a reminder of an injury she was born with that has failed to slow her down. Despite her unique gait, she moves with a perky energy, which reflects her unwavering spirit.

Gracie enjoys the playful chaos of other dogs and finds comfort and joy in their camaraderie, which is why a multi-pup household would be a great match for her. She does need a fenced though; a safe place where she can explore and bond securely with her new person or family.

With unwavering commitment and a sprinkle of patience, Gracie is destined to thrive. Her gentle nature and unwavering affection has a special place in the hearts of her foster family, and in a forever home, she's poised to blossom into the vibrant soul she was always meant to be.

Gracie is posted for Useless Bay Sanctuary. She is located in Woodinville, WA. For more information about Gracie and how to adopt her, please email: [email protected]

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

ADOPTED

Howdy! My name is Nacho. I came to Washington state 2 years ago from an out of state shelter. I was brought to Washington and adopted right out from the transport van to a nice lady. The people that brought me here told the nice lady I was 8 years old. That makes me 10 years old now. I am a chihuahua and I'll admit since I came to the nice lady I've put on some weight. I weigh almost 19 pounds now. That's too much weight for my frame so I should go on a gradual weight loss plan.

It took some time for me to learn trust. My lady was very patient with me, sitting and waiting for me to come to her. She talked to me nicely and gave me treats. Finally I decided she was OK. I'd been through a lot to get here-a scary shelter after my former person died. Then there was a LONG drive with strangers and other scared, barking dogs. I thought I'd finally reached my forever home but sadly, my lady is now unable to keep me and there is no "back up plan" with the people that drove me here. So here I am, in need of rehoming again and this time, I sure hope it's truly for forever!

When I arrived at my home there was another dog. It was an older dog and slightly bigger than me. That dog was no threat to me so I liked it. I would sometimes share a bed with him. But one day he was sick and he left, never to return. I may like another dog, if they are mellow and friendly but not too pushy!. I have never seen a cat before. I do see squirrels in the yard and I chase them. Does that mean I'd chase a cat? I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is that I don't like kids. I don't want to live in a home with them because they are unpredictable and loud. I am an anxious boy so I want an adult home where there is not a lot of coming and going.

Speaking of coming and going, my lady is busy, busy here, and people are coming and going. It has made me nervous. My lady took me to the dog doctor and they gave her some pills to make me sleepy and less on edge. You see, I'm not a social butterfly. When people come to the house, I run to my lady's room and hide. I have not a mean bone in my body. I am a sweet, loving boy once I get to know and trust you.

My lady has a dog door and that has worked for me to go in and out to do my business as needed. I like to go outside and sit when it's nice. But please, keep me safe! I need a securely fenced yard and please watch for predators. While I may be a bigger boy, once I slim down I may be at risk for hungry wildlife! I hold my potty overnight just fine so you can shut that doggy door when we go to bed.

At night I love to sleep in the bed with my lady. She has a dog bed that I lie in on her bed. I don't like to snuggle under the covers so you can have those all to yourself. I like to share the couch with my person and sometimes sit on her lap. I'd prefer not to be squeezed or hugged tight, that makes me worry. I will bark when I hear other dogs barking but aside from that, I'm not much of a barker.

My lady will tell you that she's not exercised me in the time she's had me. I don't go on walks and I'm not accustomed to walking on a leash. I'm not sure what to do when a leash is attached to me! Maybe I could learn to go for walks? I don't feel as though I'm missing out on anything however I really do need to get exercise. Not just because I'm overweight but because moving is good for everyone! I love to play with toys and run around and explore my yard. My lady plays with me, it's fun for me and it makes her smile. I can still manage stairs just fine.

At my age, I'm a young senior for my breed. I could live for many years to come if I'm taken care of properly. Regular vet care, good dog food and exercise could mean I hang around for a long time to come! I sure hope my next human can manage this for me and will keep me for the rest of my days. It's hard for a fellow like me to keep losing people! I am ready to start my happily ever after."
