Looking to adopt a kitty or two? 😽❀️ Look no further because Kitty Co. Cat Rescue has you COVERED! πŸ‘πŸ»βœ¨

We have a RAINBOW 🌈 of kitties here at KCCR - ALL personalities, nearly ALL colors, and ALL fur lengths! Ages of our current adoptables range from 6 months - 5 years old. All you have to do is submit an approved application at the link below to come meet your new companion!

All of our cats are fully vetted prior to adoption including spay/neuter, microchip, FIV/FeLV testing, f***l testing, core vaccinations, and preventatives. All cats have been tested with dogs, cats, and children. Some cats are NOT okay with children, cats, and/or dogs, which will be noted in the captions under their photos - please make sure to read their info before applying, so we can best match you with a furry companion!

If you have any questions about any kitty specifically, please feel free to ask us 😻

Adoption applications can be submitted at https://kittyco.org/adopt 🐾

‼️YOUR CURRENT PETS MUST BE FIXED AND VACCINATED PRIOR TO APPLYING TO ADOPT (some dogs are an exception to being fixed, depending on age).

Kitty Co. Cat Rescue is a nonprofit, foster-based rescue dedicated to giving all cats a better life. Our primary foster location is in Burgettstown, PA; however, some kitties are located in foster care in Houston, Oakdale, and Slippery Rock, PA. We do offer same-day adoptions and out-of-area/state adoptions for those willing to travel.

KCCR also offers adoption trial periods for up 2 weeks for approved potential adopters who are unsure how their existing animals will react to a new kitty in the home, and for those who have allergies to cats and would like to see if those allergies are manageable prior to committing to an adoption. Does this interest you? Reach out to our adoption team at [email protected] for more info!

Miss Bee with Three (yes, that is the nickname I've given her πŸ˜‚) saw Dr Dorazio today to have her sutures removed! She said that her incision looks really good and she's healing nicely β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸ¦΅πŸ» We are to get some vitamin E oil and occasionally rub some on the incision to promote healing.

I did notice that she may have cat lice (the tiny white specks you see on her fur), so she is being treated for that right now as well.

Once she is buggy-free, fully healed, and f***l tested, we are going to test her with other animals. Though, I truly believe based on what her prior caretaker told us, she loves the company of other cats, so hopefully she can make a friend in her foster home very soon!

I'm going to finish her foster room so that it accommodates her needs hopefully by mid next week, so that I can see her mobility better. So far, I don't notice any struggles. She's been adapting really well. We will post more updates on Bee as she navigates her new lifestyle over these next few weeks. Fingers crossed, she'll be available for adoption very soon!

There was no charge for Bee's suture removal today (see below). We would like to thank one of our fosters, Brenda, for taking Bee to her appt today because I wouldn't have made it there in time back from Stella's dental.

Boo update πŸ–€

She was also seen by Dr Dorazio yesterday for a recheck. It's been well over a month since she started the hydrolyzed diet to rule out food allergies being the cause of her chronic diarrhea. She also finished her course of prednisolone. Sadly, there has been no improvement in her stool - it's still just pours out of her πŸ˜”

So far, we have ruled out IBS, food allergies, parasites, and a bacterial infection. Now, we need to see if she has an exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, also known as EPI. The testing for this is rather expensive, so we chose to just go ahead and start treatment for it instead. The treatment for EPI is a powder medication called PancreVed, which is sprinkled onto food twice a day.

If Boo shows improvement in her stool on the PancreVed within the next two weeks, it means she does in fact have EPI. If she does have EPI, it is a lifelong condition, which means it will require lifelong treatment on the PancreVed.

We will keep everyone updated on how Boo is doing on this new med over the next couple of weeks. We're crossing our fingers we have finally found a solution 🀞🏻

Our total yesterday at Akeso Vet Clinic for Boo and Truman's visit was $121.36 (paid invoice below). Unfortunately, we had to pay this balance with a personal credit card as we did not have the sufficient funds in our account. If you wish to help us offset this out-of-pocket balance, ways to do so are below.

Truman update 🧑

He saw Dr Dorazio yesterday for a checkup. If you remember, the last time he was at the vet, he was quite literally on death's door... he wasn't responding to any supportive care and was filled with fluid. We went with our guts and started him on GS treatment for FIP, and guess what? It saved his life!

Truman is now on day 52 of 84 of FIP treatment πŸ’ͺ🏻 He has gained a whopping 3.5 lbs and is healthy, happy, and thriving!!!

We need help getting these pretty girls adopted πŸ’– today marks exactly 600 days they've been in foster care with us.

Would any rescues be willing to make a courtesy post for our two longest residents, Clawdia and Tabbytha, on their social media to try and find them a home?

In return, we will also post whoever your longest resident(s) are and share their story with our followers. It would help tremendously to get new eyes on our kitties!

If you're with a rescue and would kindly like to do this for these girls, please send us a message and we can exchange kitty photos & bios 🐱

Our total at Catnip Acres Clinic today for Stella's dental procedure, Murphy's refill of Dex, and Morgan's f***l exam was $540. Stella ended up needing a tooth extracted - she did very well! We unfortunately had to pay this balance due using a personal credit card today as we have nothing in our general funds.

We have raised $30 so far towards this amount. If you wish to donate to help us offset this out-of-pocket cost, ways to do so are below. Thank you for your support.

01/22/2025

The urge I have to save all the cats that need our help is so strong - it makes me wanna jump up, put my shoes on, and speed off to go pickup the next one that needs me - then I quickly remember we have no room and no extra funds.

The cats and kittens that are outside, freezing to death in this very moment while I'm sitting in my warm home, typing this post. The strays that show up on people's porches, injured, crying for help. The kittens that are infested with parasites, have ruptured eyes from untreated URIs, or deformities from being in**ed. And nowhere for them to go... not a single rescue able to help them because they're bursting at the seams already. Those cats could be saved, but they won't be simply because not enough people will foster. Or there's no funds available to pay for the care they need...

These are the thoughts that literally keep me up until 5 AM every night. Do you know how incredibly frustrating and discouraging it is that while I am so blessed to have the knowledge and experience to care for these kinds of animals unlike the average person, I can't do a damn thing and I have to sit back and watch them suffer, because I have nowhere to put them? Because I don't have the money? I, a rescuer, have to turn down a cat that needs me every single day, knowing it will die if I don't help it. That s**t haunts me... it creates the biggest lump in my throat from guilt. I sob myself to sleep some nights over it. It's just not fair... but what am I to do? I beg to strangers every other day for help. That's all I can do.

No, we cannot possibly save every cat in the world, but damnit, there's nothing wrong with trying to save every cat we CAN. Problem is, we don't have the adequate funding or foster space to right now.

Please know that having to say no to any cats needing our help, breaks my heart into a million pieces. I hate saying no, but we can no longer push our limits. Pushing our limits for the past 4.5 years may have saved more lives, but it heavily and negatively impacted us financially and mentally.

We aren't even getting enough donations for our current cats' care... we have been having to use personal credit cards for supplies and certain vet bills, so that we don't have to touch our emergency fund. We have vet appt after vet appt coming up, and no funds raised for any of them. Our fosters are overfull. We haven't received a single serious application of interest in fostering - $50 paid to try and recruit fosters through social media ads was not worth it. Lesson was learned, lol.

Honestly, I never thought that immediately following obtaining our nonprofit status, we would struggle worse than we were beforehand. Everyone is struggling right now, worse than ever. The economy is terrible. Vetting and supplies costs are higher than ever. We cannot expect the same 3-5 people to pay our vet bills and operating expenses and donate supplies, which is what has been happening for months now. Our regular and largest donors are very understandably burnt out. Faces that used to be regulars at events and for fundraisers, are now strangers. Yes, people move on. People have their own lives and struggles. People get tired of seeing us beg. I get it, trust me. I wholeheartedly understand. I am truly just thankful for those that have gotten us to this point in our rescue journey. But, where do we go from here?

How do we continue to grow when resources don't allow for it? How do we get the volunteers we need? How do we get the donations we need? How do we get more adoptions?

Not to mention, the messages I've received from other large and well-known rescues/rescuers, who have not been so kind and supportive towards me and our team... truly baffling. It's a good thing I have thick skin from years of experience with people like that. Just believe me when I say, PEOPLE are the reason rescuers give up. It's never because of the animals. Just know that these larger rescues with their enormous facilities and paid employees, have 5 cats sitting in their shelter, but turn everyone away and send them to smaller rescues like us. They then have the audacity to say the things they do about us smaller rescues and not give us any credit. You all have no idea how cruel the rescue world can be when it comes to the people in it. Instead of working together with the same goal in mind of saving animals, the "big dogs" would rather tear us down andmake sure they tell us that they have "40 years of experience" as if that justifies their behaviors or makes them entitled. People will take one look at my age, and immediately begin to belittle me or assume I am not educated enough to run an organization.

Let's just say - discouraged is the best way to explain how I'm feeling this past week. It's been tough, I'm not gonna lie.

I realize though that I'm rambling. These are just the few of many thoughts that have been weighing heavily on my mind these past few days, and being able to come on here and talk with you all about them, helps. Even if it makes me look unhinged. Just remember - I'm human. I have feelings. I'm not a robot behind your screen.

I would like to say though, I hope you all don't take posts like this one in the wrong way. I have great days, and I have bad days. Today, is a bad day and I feel it's important to share the struggles. Rescue is not always cute kittens and wholesome moments. It can be exhausting. However, I have 0 regrets when it comes to Kitty Co. Cat Rescue. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not going anywhere and I'll never stop rescuing. I've come this far, and I'll go further. I'm truly just thinking out loud, and trying to navigate the next steps for us. I'm trying to come up with solutions to our struggles. It's just me, myself, and I in these things and it gets very, very lonely. I will say one thing though - those who doubt me, are those who fuel me! We will continue to grow and one day, we WILL thrive. We're just hitting some large bumps... like Pennsylvania-sized potholes, along the way.

From one kitty-lover to another, I am begging you all, please continue to support KCCR in any way you possibly can. This rescue and our mission means the absolute world to me. We need more people to know about us. We need more community outreach.

We need volunteers.
We need fosters.
We need adopters.
We need donors.
We need hands-on, positive, and motivated people on our team.

With more volunteers and funding, we can bring more cats in that need us. For now, we unfortunately are closed indefinitely to all intakes while we hit the reset button, and obtain the adequate resources needed.

Our rescue is looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team and help us give all cats a better life. Here are the five types of volunteers we need and how you can help:

1. Transport Volunteers (must be 21+)
Help us get cats where they need to go! Duties include transporting cats to vet appointments, adoption events, and foster homes. A reliable vehicle and a love for animals are all you need.

2. Event Volunteers
Assist at adoption events, fundraisers, and community gatherings by setting up booths, engaging with visitors, encouraging adoptions, and sharing our mission.

3. TNR Volunteers (Trap-Neuter-Return)
Be part of the solution to preventing the overpopulation and suffering of cats! Help humanely trap feral cats, transport them to clinics for spaying/neutering, and return them to their colonies.

4. Community Outreach Volunteers
Help us educate and connect! Spread awareness about spay/neuter, TNR, and our mission of giving all cats a better life through community presentations, social media, and local events. This role also includes managing our donation bins and jars at local/partner businesses.

5. Foster Volunteers (must be 21+)
Open your home to a cat in need! Provide a temporary, loving environment for cats and kittens until they find their forever families. We provide all supplies, pay for all expenses including vet care, and provide any training you may need! Apply to foster at kittyco.org/foster

Duncan (gray) and Ophelia (calico) are patiently waiting for someone to adopt them 🐱

These 6 month old siblings do not have to be adopted together, but do need to go to a home with an existing kitty playmate to help them navigate cat-life as they grow.

Duncan is a shy guy, but as he's grown in his foster home, so has his confidence. He's a gentle, sweet boy. He tolerates being held for cuddles, and loves head pets. He just needs a little nudge in coming out of his shell more. In a less active home, we know he would thrive!

Ophelia is a bashful little girl! She loves being center of attention, but would rather be playing than cuddling. When you can finally catch her and she's burned off all that kitten energy, she gets her motor going and purrs away, leaning into pets.

Duncan and Ophelia are both fixed, microchipped, double negative for FIV and FeLV, f***l tested, and updated on vaccines and preventatives. They do well with other cats, dogs, and respectful children.

Want to meet these cuties? Fill out an application at kittyco.org/adopt! 🐾

Mayor & Oogie Boogie were ADOPTED today! πŸ–€πŸŽ‰

These guys had a rough start to their life. Thankfully, they came into our rescue when they did. They came in with toxoplasmosis, roundworms, and Giardia. Unfortunately, two of their siblings passed within days of coming to us due to the toxo. But these two and their sister, Sally, survived and thrived after treatment! Now, they have a forever home with a new Dad and a dog sibling ❀️

Thank you, James, for giving two of our kittens a family and home! It was a pleasure raising these babies πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ₯°
