I am still in shock β in the best way possible.
Today, something extraordinary happened. One of our long-time supporters, Lance, generously gifted me a car. Yes, you read that right. A car.
As many of you know, running a cat rescue isnβt a 9-to-5 job. Itβs a 24/7 commitment filled with emergency vet runs, transporting kitties to fosters, picking up stray or abandoned cats, running supply errands, attending adoption events, and so much more. I wear many hats here at Kitty Co. β director, caretaker, delivery driver, cat therapist (for those with attitude lol), fundraiser, bookkeeper, cat taxi... the list goes on.
For the past two years, I did not have a vehicle of my own because of personal financial struggles, so I had been operating one of my parents' vehicles that were unreliable at best, and undrivable at worst - I was extremely thankful they allowed me to use it, but it definitely only got me from point A to point B... sometimes, lol. A few weeks ago, my younger brother got his driver's license (so proud of him!), so he took over the vehicle I was using. This left me without an operating vehicle the past few weeks, which has been tough to say the least. It has been my biggest worry since because at 29 years old, living on my own and operating an animal rescue, a car is a necessity for me. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford another car until at least Fall or Winter of this year.
This car from Lance is more than just a way of transportation β itβs a lifeline for me and this rescue. It means I get to go back to working, have safer travel (he has kept the vehicle in near prestine condition), and more flexibility to do what needs to be done for the cats and kittens in our care.
My team and I are beyond grateful to Lance for his generosity and kindness. This gift was completely unexpected and left me in tears more times than I can count since he first offered this gift, to today after we signed the paperwork at the notary and he handed over the keys. I understand how fortunate I am to have someone like him in my life. He started off as a stranger, following our page, seeing our posts about our kitties, and over time, he began to see something in us that I didn't quite see at that time.
It dawned on me today that today was only the second time ever that I have talked with or met Lance in person (we typically just FB message). So yes, this gentleman gifted me a car, only ever meeting me twice. That is how trusting he is in me and this rescue. Now he didn't know this because l've never told him, but through his sincerity, kindness, and high beliefs and expectations in us, he has challenged me and pushed me to continue when I felt like giving up and walking away the most. For that alone, I am so so thankful.
Itβs supporters like him who remind me that I am not doing this alone β I'm surrounded by a community that truly cares. People like Lance are so incredibly rare and I will never take them or their kindness for granted. This is a gentleman who, without hesitation, supports charities and organizations simply because he believes in them and their cause. He expects nothing in return, except to see their success. He is truly one of the most sincere people I have had the privelege of meeting.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Lance. You didnβt just gift me a car β you gave me a sense of security, freedom, and the ability to effectively operate our rescue to save more lives. I will never forget what you have done for me.
And though I offered to repay you in any way I can (that you stubbornly denied π€¨π), I will still forever be in debt to your kindness. I know your biggest wishes for us is to see our rescue succeed, so please know that my promise and form of repayment to you is making sure our team does everything in our power to make that happen β to ensure we succeed, because I know we and the cats deserve it.
Lance, if you're reading this, I know I've already said it a thousand times and I'll probably said it a thousand more β thank you for everything you do.
To our community β please help us show Lance some love in the comments today β€οΈππ» And please know we are grateful for every single one of you that supports us. Without you ALL, we would not be able to do what we do for the cats!
