Happy Labor Day. Hope everyone gets to enjoy the day with your family and cats.

We will be relaxing with our furfamily and wishing for more rain. Our kitties will be wishing for items from our Amazon Wishlist. Lots of options and suggestions if you may be able to find the items at Chuy or Walmart instead.

Thank you to everyone that helps support our mission in caring for the community cats and TNR.

We are asking for donations to help with Vincent and Sabastian's care as well as the kittens we brought in from our last TNR trapping. We could use more food, litter, and medical support to get these little ones ready for adoption. As well as building up funds for our next round of TNR appointments.

We greatly appreciate all of the support our community has blessed us with since moving here. Thank you. We can not provide the assistance and care for the cats without you.

What a sad situation that isn't only happening in Austin. In the comments you will see it's happening in Kingsland and here in Burnet. Cats being killed and left for the caretakers to find.

A neighbor near Colony Park says the second dead cat placed in his yard was found in a box and covered in flies.

💔URGENT💔

Thelma is one of our residents here at the sanctuary and will need a surgery this week to clean and cut out an infection from her stomach.

Her kittens were old enough to be weened and we decided to have her spayed last week. During the week she broke out of separation from her kittens and allowed them to breast feed on her surgery site which has caused an infection. Mistakes like this aren't common, but Miss Thelma is a master escape artist.

If you have the means to donate, we ask that you kindly give what you can! We are currently very low on kitty funds due to taking in multiple new borns and taking current residents for blood and saliva tests.

Last night I went back to retrieve the second kitten in Burnet where we last trapped and found the last kitten. It was a success. Brought it home to be with its sibling. Two kittens are much better off together. Think we are going to name them Tater Tot and Milkshake.

If you would like to help with their care or contribute for their medical support. Please feel free to donate to help give them a good start off out of the wild bush and into a loving home.

Playing musical cats. We moved Sabastian into the larger enclosure inside the house to free up an enclosure in the cat room for the baby. It needed more space than the trap. Plus, Sabastian has been such a good boy. He needed more room to move about and play with some toys.

Hoping to try and get the other kitten inside soon.

A very rare instance that we bring back an empty trap from a spay clinic.

This little lady was in a bad way. She had a pyometra, and was suffering from feline eyelid agenesis. It's a congenital condition where part of the upper eyelid is partially deformed. Causing normal skin with hairs to rub on the cornea. One eye was totally blind. The other was disfigured. Looked as if it was shattered glass. Treatment would have been costly and multiple procedures that would be nearly impossible for an unsocialized community cat.

We made the tough decision that all in animal rescue have to make. Saving her from passing alone and in the dark. She was helped across the rainbow bridge humanely and with compassion.

RIP little lady.

We can also learn from this. Her being from a different colony than ours but gave us a needed clue as to what is plaguing the cats on our street. Many are suffering from eye conditions. Several have one eye missing or in Modo's case. Extreme discharge causing black goop to cake on his face and some having smaller than normal eyes. His case is minor but may lead to issues later on. We will keep him close. Spaying and neutering will help break this cycle.

Thank you Austin Humane Society for the excellent care given to our community cats over the years we have been doing TNR.

Such a great program. Definitely need more cities to be proactive in humanely managing the community cat population and supporting TNR.

Did you say spay and neuter??!! Not all the kitties are thrilled when they get dropped off for surgery at the AHS Community Cat Clinic, but when they go home at the end of the day, they are ready to live longer and healthier lives. Thanks to amazing community members who trap these cats and bring them to our clinic we have served over 85,000 cats in the past 17 years. Cats who come through the program get surgery, dewormed, vaccinated, ear-tipped and then returned to their outdoor homes. Interested in helping outdoor cats in your neighborhood? We are doing a TNR clinic run on Wednesday for a group of Deer Springs cats. Any contributions towards their spaycations is greatly appreciated.

We could also use help with food, litter, and the extra power being used to run the air conditioner for Vincent and Sabastian to the cat room.

Hello. I'm James Tiemann with Lockhart Lionhearts/Lionhearts TNR here in Burnet, Texas. Now … James Tiemann needs your support for Deer Springs Community Cats

It's a difficult process that is not reliable and often leads to a tragic end. Relocating is a last resort.

Please know: Relocating community cats is a LAST RESORT.

Cats are very bonded to their outdoor homes and feline families, and relocating them is not a simple move. In fact, it can place the cats' lives in danger.

Warm weather? No... this is HOT 💥🔥 weather. If you provide food and water for outside cats, be aware that if you are putting out wet food during the day, add water to it and pick it up within 45 minutes to avoid bacterial growth/going rancid. It may be best to just provide dry when the temps are crazy high. Plus, the dry is less likely to attach insects. Raising the bowl off the ground, placing it in a larger plate/bowl with water in it to create a moat, or sprinkling FOOD-GRADE Diatomaceous Earth will help with keeping bugs out. However, wet food can be a good source of hydration for cats in hot weather if you feed early in the morning or in the evening or they eat it all right away.

Deep bowls for water help to keep it from getting too warm and placed in the shade is ideal. You can also add some ice cubes or bring refrigerated water. Some cats like to play with the ice cubes which helps to cool off their foot pads. You can also freeze water bottles and place one in the bowl. If frozen bottles are left on the ground, some cats will lay on them to cool off.

If you can, provide some shade even if it is just a piece of plywood leaning against a wall.

If you are doing TNR in very hot weather, be aware that cats can suffer heatstroke. Place the trap covered with a lightweight cover in the shade or where there is some AC. Placing a trap on asphalt can heat up the metal making it even hotter for the cat and can even burn it's paws.

Let's do what we can to keep our furry friends cool! Please share any other suggestions you have.

Sabastian is such a sweet boy. Betting he's enjoying the a/c. It's going to be brutally hot coming up. Running our air conditioner for him and Vincent always increases our electricity bill during the Summer months. Even running the fans for the outdoor cats makes a huge difference for them.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Hello. It is Wishlist Wednesday. Our cats are always in need of moist and dry food, as well as litter. There are lots of opportunities to make a difference in the cats we care for lives. From small toys and treats, on up to bigger items like traps, and houses. The cats even need cleaning supplies like laundry sanitizer, detergent, paper towels, bleach cleaners.

Or you can order what your heart desires off Amazon too if you can get a better deal.

We want to give huge hugs and THANKS to everyone that has followed us and supported our mission of humanely trap, neutering, vaccinating, and returning of the community in our neighborhoods here in Burnet.
