Update on Wilson!
A lot of you know Wilson has been struggling with some mysterious health issues lately. Over the last 6 months, he had lost a whole 10 lbs, which is a lot in a dog his size.
After a lot diagnostics, hopeful recoveries followed by disappointment, and many moneys and stressings, I think we finally actually have a real diagnosis and treatment that's working. ๐
Wilson has something called EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency), with a side of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). Essentially, his pancreas is not producing the enzymes necessary to digest his food. I now soak his homemade food in enzymes for 15 minutes before feeding him, and this has helped a great deal. Coupled with a new antibiotic to treat the SIBO, he is basically back to normal.
Since being treated for these conditions, Wilson has gained half the weight back that he lost. I took this picture today, and although he could stand to fatten up a little more, he is not cringingly thin anymore.
Dogs with EPI can apparently live normal lives and live normal life spans. I will keep making his home made food and soaking it in enzymes for the rest of his life but that is a small price to pay to watch this dog get old.
Here's to putting 5 more lbs on this fat boy ๐ป
