While our beautiful bengals reside in our enriching and carefully designed cattery, our kittens and mothers are raised in our home underfoot. Living in the remote mountains of North Carolina, where veterinary care wasn't always a quick drive away, I realized how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to my pets and cattery.

Over the years, I’ve worked on creating and refining an Emergency Binder—a comprehensive guide to ensure my animals are cared for in any situation. Whether it’s a natural disaster, a medical emergency, if something happens to me or just for the pet sitter when I went away to shows or on holiday, this binder provided everything someone would need to step in and help.

The idea for this 180+ page project came after hearing countless stories of pet owners facing crises with no plan in place for their animals or the horror stories of a breeder passing away and no one knowing what to do with their animals. Then of course this year's Hurricane Helene that devastated my old town of Burnsville, NC.

Having everything organized in one place is invaluable.

I know putting together a truly effective emergency binder and plan can feel overwhelming. While there are guides out there, many overlook the finer details especially for breeders that can make all the difference in a stressful situation. I wanted to simplify the process and create a step-by-step guide to help other pet owners and breeders build a resource they can rely on, whether it’s for a pet sitter, a friend, or first responders.

This series goes beyond just listing emergency contacts—it’s designed to be a lifeline in any scenario. It ensures your pets’ needs are met even when you’re not there, giving you peace of mind and helping you be prepared for whatever life throws your way.

As I revamp life and finish these half baked ideas I wanted to share these milestones and resources with my community.

I am going to clear something up once and for all

As the person who proposed, wrote, campaigned and presented the Charcoal standard for TICA

TO BE A CHARCOAL YOU MUST HAVE:
1 Copy of Apb
Overall Darkness
Mask
White Goggles
Dorsal Stripe or Cape (optional in Color points)

I know this is something new to TICA but it is NOT a color, not a pattern. It is a pattern effect. It affects color and pattern. Charcoal can express in cats of all colors and patterns.

Chris Kaelin and I are continuing to understand fully how the genes work and suspect there are numerous variants.

If you have questions please contact me and stop spreading false information that a mask isn't required or as long as the cat is Apb/a its a charcoal. This is INCORRECT!

If you understand charcoal PLEASE educate other breeders, pet owners and judges in the show hall!

Today marks the official retirement of CH Elysian Warped Kraken aka Roka.

Roka was one of those kittens you planned generations ahead for. Before I even had my first litter, producing her was planned. Her name was even picked out for years. Her father QGC Elysian Valhallan Ice Warrior aka Ragnarok was produced to breed with CH Silverstorm Crown Jewels aka Cortana. The pairing would eventually combine Nar’s structural lines and Cortana’s strong silver and charcoal lines. I had hoped for two beautiful silvers a boy and a girl, but Cortana had other plans. By the time she was four she didn’t really want to produce much any more so her last breeding with Nar produced a beautiful singleton.

Roka had an interesting start to life given she was born during the first year of COVID and due to a small pandemic in my own house she wasn’t able to socialize with anyone but her her mom and us humans. Without a doubt she has singleton syndrome. She actually drove me nuts at night as a kitten with her endless energy. I would hide under the blankets from her and she would find me. Her comfort toy was a baby toy named Mortimer the Moose which she still has to this day.

Roka was the first kitten of mine born from my two highest titled cats. I love her big round eyes, strong chin and thick, blunt tail. She is super quirky and clumsy like her mom, but super sweet and affectionate. She isn’t so crazy anymore. No offense to the blondes in the world but she definitely fits the stereotype lol

While showing in the show hall was not her favorite activity last year she became a champion, was voted breeder’s choice best silver seal lynx adult and best nose. She also followed in her father’s footsteps and was the south east regions best silver seal lynx two years in a row.

Roka was one of those rare bengals that only had three litters in her career. She is the mother of the Water Litter with Tyranid Nekulli of Elysian aka Nuka, the Rivers, Lakes and Bays Litter with Lakeleopardz Zion of Katzmeow and her last litter with my good friend Lori Denley of Sakura Bengals with BW MirandasRanch Blackjack of Sakura aka Jack.

Her legacy lives on with:

Elysian Yeti of Sakura (name still in the works)

While Roka has quite the fan club, she is remaining with us and her parents.

This weekend CH Bengallily x Elysian MazeofWhispers aka Naizey (Silverstorm Maharani of Bengallily x QGC Elysian Vahallan Ice Warrior) and I drove down to Hampton, VA for this years TICA annual. It was a very well organized show and we had a blast.

Friday we attended several amazing seminars on genetics and feline welfare, while I presented my own seminar on the feline diet on Saturday.

Saturday and Sunday were full of days of showing where 14 judges handled Naizey. She receive some wonderful compliments and earned three titles making her one final shy of her grand champion title! She also tried her paws at the agility course which was fun!

Saturday evening we all dressed in our best gowns and suits to award the best of the best in the world during the banquet. The food was delicious and everyone looked stunning.

QGC Elysian Dark Matter aka Inalhi Philadelphia Tea Party Lebanon PA April 6-7 2023

Thank you Philadelphia Tea Party for a wonderful show this weekend in Lebanon PA. I’m glad I decided to come last minute! To say I’m pleasantly shocked is an understatement. The competition was wonderfully stiff. QGCA Elysian Dark Genesis aka Genesis got points towards his Supreme and only needs 220 and a best cat to get it. Elysian NR Dark Matter on the other hand got two finals and not just any finals she got two best cat finals! Pending TICA she is now a Quadruple Grand Champion at only 9 months old (cats are considered adults at 8 months so she has only been in the adult class for less then a month). If I had not decided to retire I would not have kept her, I’m so glad I went with my gut!

March 2024 United Cat Club Chantilly, VA Show

Had a fantastic weekend in VA with very good old and new show friends. We brought Siri who most likely achieved her triple grand champion title, Genesis who is now only 920 pts and a best cat from his Supreme and Inalhi who not only got her double but her triple grand champion title! The cats had a blast and the club did a phenomenal job putting the show together!

While our beautiful Bengals reside in our enriching and carefully designed cattery, our kittens and mothers are raised in our home underfoot. Elysian Bengals aim to specialize in silvers and charcoal Bengals with a focus on genetics, nutrition, and education. Why choose us as your breeder? 1. We have a degree in psychobiology pre-veterinary with a minor in evolutionary studies, a special interest in genetics, and carnivore nutrition with extra courses in microbiology, organic and inorganic chemistry. 3. Our kittens are exposed to over 200 stimuli with an extensive socialization program
