If anyone is interested in training or retraining a horse to harness, and especially if you have connections to an equestrian club (The Lippitt Club, Inc?), please be aware that these resources are still available despite Robyn Cuffey's untimely death last fall.

Robyn started both Brook Hill Syndication and C-My Brother Ray for us and she was a top-notch trainer.

Summer in full swing means that cropping season is also in full swing. Cropping season means we are on the move and busy on the road moving equipment since most of our fields are located away from the home farm. 🌱

This is just a friendly reminder that our equipment is often slow moving or takes a while to get moving, so we ask for your patience with us on the roadway. With that being said, our driveway has hills on both sides and the Buxton side is a blind hill, so we apologize if the timing doesn’t work out and you have to slow down for us. ⚠️

We thank you for your patience as we strive to get our work done without interrupting yours. 🚜

Just found out that one of Holy Moly Poseidon's offspring sired his first foal. A little black c**t with a white star and a small white sock, born last night. It's really gratifying to know that all the effort we put into trying to keep Bayside Rainman's lineage alive wasn't for nothing. Thank you, Thornfield Barberry!

PSA: SCAM ALERT

Recently we had a purchase deal for a fertilizer spreader we were selling. The buyer was from out of state and said he wanted to pay us for the equipment and the shipping so that we could pay the shipper when they came to pick it up. The terms seemed… off. But the man sent us a bank check that looked and felt legit. Except… we still were uneasy about the whole thing, and rather than depositing it electronically, we waited until the banks opened after the long weekend and had them look at it.

Sure enough: it was fake. The “buyer” was scamming us to try to get us to e-deposit the check and then pay his driver in cash. The fact that we were unwilling to trust a payment from someone we didn’t know was what prevented us from being taken.

E-deposit is convenient but there’s still good reason not to default to it. Payments from people you know? Sure. Random strangers? Just don’t.

Some of the clues were: Discrepancy between the area code of his cell phone (Boston) and where the check came from (California); the fact that he pushed really really hard for Mark to deposit the check via electronic means; the fact that he could give us a nice round number for shipping w/o knowing the weight of the spreader; and his willingness to trust strangers to pay his shipping bill sight unseen.

Your horse has vanished and someone else is responsible. But if the police deem the case a civil matter, recovering your horse will be much more difficult, if not impossible. Don’t let this happen to you.

One of those moments of serendipity: the person who came to buy hay from us today regularly rides trails with the lady who bought Stevie (aka Brook Hill Syndication) from us years ago. She says Stevie is well loved and happy and riding the trails of southern Maine!
