A little bit about me….. I’m Christy Moneymaker, founder of Charlie’s Rescue, where compassion meets action. Growing up, my sister’s selfless heart inspired me, as she welcomed stray animals into our lives. As I grew older, she taught me about the rescue world, and I witnessed her kindness as she fostered and volunteered at our local humane society. Charlie, her foster and who I adopted, taught me about unconditional love, leaving a mark on my heart, despite his short four years. My household has blossomed into a haven for eight dogs and three cats, all thanks to Charlie’s legacy. His memory will continue to inspire my work, saving lives and spreading love, until we meet again. Thank you for fostering – it truly transforms lives.

A lot of dogs want you to know this -

Instead of a fancy collar and bed? They’d rather have a fenced in yard - even if it has to be small and home made - so they can have off leash time to dog and dig.

Instead of daily neighborhood walks? They’d rather you drive to a dirt road and put them on a 30ft line and let them zig zag and smell as long as they like

Instead of twice daily meals in a bowl? They’d rather have food through enrichment activities that stimulates their brain and their nose.

Instead of basic obedience training? They’d rather have purpose driven training that feeds their genetic make up and needs AND helps them survive and thrive in todays world.

Instead of a human wanting something from them? They’d love a human wanting to understand them better.

Instead of focusing on perfect “heels” and “stays”? They’d love to learn how to be resilient and less stressed and cope with the outside world and our expectations.

Instead of harsh punishments and corrections? They’d prefer proactive management and rewards for good decisions.

We can’t change everything about the lives our dogs are forced to live with us in, but we can make these kinds of changes and see a huge improvement in their quality of life and wellbeing.

This may be a long one,
Im up every morning by 2 or 3am, sitting here with Cricket snuggled into my lap, having my coffee while scrolling through a variety of things such as emails, messages, Facebook, tiktok etc...
My newsfeed on Facebook is full of rescues & shelter posts from groups all over the country that I do not follow nor have I ever seen their pages before yet every day it's there. Rarely do I see anything posted by my actual friends.
That is a whole other conversation, fb shows us what fb wants to show us. 🙄
You wonder why I am awake so damn early ? I wish I could sleep but part of it is physical pain and part is just worry.
I don't want to read these stories from other rescues, I don't need to read them, I already know what they say. They are broke, they need help for vetting, dogfood, surgeries, training, transports etc.... The lists are always the same.
I see rescues with huge numbers of dogs and think, I am so glad I haven't let ARRF get to that point. Not that we couldn't like within 6 months if we took in every dog we were asked to help we would have over 200 dogs here, within a year it would be 500.
I would love to be able to say yes. There was a time when we were able to spay & neuter dogs for people in our community, there was a time we could help people out with vet bills if some emergency situation came up.
We have no choice but to keep our numbers as low as possible, I refuse to take on more dogs when we can barely feed and care for what we have.
Maybe I just screwed up from the beginning by taking in dogs that had behavior issues because that is what turned us in to a sanctuary. Maybe I should have only rescued small dogs that get adopted easily or English Bulldogs or the Frenchies everyone wants. I don't know what the answers are I only know the problems.
Out of our 10,000 followers I would venture to say we have about 50 people that actively donate, participate in our auctions, raffles, posts. Sometimes it's a few more. We beg for people to like, comment, & shared our $5 Fridays because it helps to get the post out there but rarely does anyone do it. Except for a few.
We are having a hell of a time getting sponsors for this event that I'm wondering if it will even happen at all.
I currently have about 6 dogs that are already past due or fixing to be past due on their proheart shots. And before anything is said, the proheart injection is the only thing that works in this mosquito infested delta we live in. Bring me a heartworm negative dog that's on heart guard and I guarantee you it will be heartworm positive in 6 months here.
We are in a predicament, we need funds, we need our community to help support us. I didn't go looking for these dogs, we were asked to take them.
Our immediate needs are things for the dogs to chew on, the pig ears and tracheas ( located in our Amazon wish list )
We need canned dogfood, you can buy it from Chewy or Amazon but I can promise you we seek and find way better prices than what they charge.
We need money, pure and simple. I need to buy fly spray, rolls of fence so things can be repaired, I need to be able to take some dogs to the vet.
And we have 2 people that work here that have to be paid every week. I am currently having some health issues that are preventing me from doing a whole lot of things that I normally do.
Community, ARRF friends and followers, we NEED you !!!!
