Today we're remembering Mary Beth Sills' Bambi. She has a pretty remarkable story. She was found after being abandoned by her kitty mom and bottle fed and ended up living a long life (although she was a little grumpy!) ❤

We want to remember your pet! Make sure you comment on the pinned post on our profile so we can honor your furry loved ones. ❤

Halloween is all about fun, but it can be a little tricky for our pets.
Here are some quick tips to ensure your pets have a safe and stress-free holiday:

🎃 Keep Candy Out of Reach: Chocolate, xylitol, and other candies are dangerous for pets. Make sure your treats are stored safely!

🎃 Costume Caution: If you’re dressing up your pet, make sure the costume fits well and doesn’t restrict movement, breathing, or vision. Skip the costumes if your pet isn’t a fan!

🎃 Create a Safe Space: With the constant doorbell ringing, excited trick-or-treaters, and unfamiliar sounds, your pet might get anxious. Set up a quiet space where they can relax away from the hustle.

🎃 Watch for Hazards: Decorations, glow sticks, and jack-o'-lanterns can be tempting, but they’re not pet-friendly. Keep them out of reach to avoid accidents.

Let’s make this Halloween fun and safe for everyone—even our four-legged friends! 🐾

Share a photo of your pet in their Halloween costumes below! 👻

It's that time of year again! 👻🎃

Halloween may be full of sweet treats, but many candies pose serious risks to our pets. Here’s why it's crucial to keep them out of paws' reach:

Chocolate & Xylitol – The Top Offenders: You probably already know chocolate is toxic, but did you know xylitol (a sweetener found in many sugar-free candies and gums) can cause a sudden, life-threatening drop in your pet’s blood sugar? Even small amounts can lead to seizures and liver failure.

Raisins & Macadamia Nuts: Found in some treats, these are particularly dangerous for dogs. Raisins can lead to kidney failure, and macadamia nuts can cause weakness, vomiting, and tremors.

Candy Wrappers: Don’t forget the wrappers! Pets might ingest them while trying to sneak a treat, leading to intestinal blockages or choking hazards.

Consider setting up a "pet-safe" room during Halloween festivities to ensure they aren’t tempted by fallen candy or sneaky hands offering them sweets. If your pet manages to eat something they shouldn’t, contact us immediately or reach out to an emergency vet.

Cat Fact: Did you know? 🙌🏻✨

Cats can make up to 100 different sounds!

While dogs only make about 10, our feline companions are quite the chatterboxes. From meows to purrs, chirps to growls, each sound has a special meaning—whether they’re saying hello, asking for attention, or letting you know it’s dinner time! 🐾

Do you have a chatty cat?

Is your pup a nailbiter? 🐾

Ever notice your pup nibbling at their nails? Here are a few reasons why dogs bite their nails...

Overgrown Nails: If your dog’s nails are too long, they might try to "trim" them on their own. Overgrown nails can cause discomfort when walking, leading to biting.

Allergies: Dogs can experience skin allergies, which may cause itchy paws. This can lead them to bite at their nails and surrounding areas.

Infection or Injury: A cut, broken nail, or even an infection might prompt your dog to chew at the affected nail. It's their way of trying to soothe the pain.

Anxiety or Boredom: Some dogs develop nervous habits, just like humans. Nail-biting could be a sign of stress, anxiety, or simply a lack of stimulation.

If you notice any injury or consistent licking/biting in your pup's paws, feel free to give us a call to get a check up.

There are still some stragglers of fleas and ticks remaining as we enter the cooler season. Please remember your preventatives at your next visit!

The best medicine is prevention, and unfortunately fleas/ticks are rampant until there is weather consistently cool enough to kill them.

Keep your pets and home safe from these pesky bugs!

Today we're remembering Kori Dingey's "Roman"

She said: "He was my daughter's best friend and protector. Everyone wanted to take him home when they met him. He will always be missed. Your staff was absolutely amazing when we had to make the tough choice to send him over the rainbow. You allowed us to take as long as we needed in the room with him. Also with setting up his cremation, which he came back home in a beautiful wooden box."

Pumpkin Season… It's not just for the girlies and the lattes! 🎃

Did you know pumpkin has many benefits for your pup?
Because of its fiber content, pumpkin is a great additive to your pet's food as it can help regulate digestion. It's also nutrient-rich, low in calories and can support hydration.

Of course, just like everything else -- it should be moderated! Be cautious not to give your pet too much or it can lead to digestive issues, and could cause sensitivity.

Does your pup eat pumpkin?

Is your pet experiencing seasonal allergies? 🤧

Many pets around this time experience issues with fall allergies. You may see an increase in itching, licking, redness, and ear infections. 😫

Regular grooming (bathing, brushing) can help with removing those allergens from your pet's coat, but also keeping an air purifier inside can greatly reduce allergens inside of the home.

You can also consult with your pet's veterinarian about offering omega-3 fatty acids into your pet's diet to reduce inflammation and help with skin health!

If allergies are not letting up and you feel your pet may need to be seen, please feel free to call us at 740-439-1728 so we can help!

Wouldn't it be great if we could empty the shelters by Christmas time and have pets home for the holidays? ❤️

You CAN make a difference. If you have the time and are considering adding a pet to your family, please consider local adoption.

We're lucky to have a wonderful shelter right here in Guernsey County and several local cat rescues.

Please consider your options when adding to your family... they need our help! 🐾
