It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Barnesville Police Department K9 Dixie. K9 Dixie passed in the comfort of the lap of her handler and owner, Andrew Stewart, this afternoon at the Barnesville Veterinary Office. Dixie was nearly 10 years of age and had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Dixie started her career with the Barnesville Police Department in 2014 with her handler, Officer Benjamin Neuhardt. In 2016, when Neuhardt left the agency in a full time capacity, Dixie partnered up with Officer Andrew Stewart. The two worked together until 2020 when K9 Dixie retired. Andrew Stewart took ownership of K9 Dixie and they were together until her passing today. K9 Dixie was an exceptionally awesome K9 and worked great with both handlers as they did with her. There is a special bond only known by the K9 and their handlers, and this was certainly the case with K9 Dixie. During her time with the Barnesville Police Department, K9 Dixie assisted in multiple felony arrests, drug seizures, apprehensions, and tracks. K9 Dixie was the Barnesville Police Department's first K9 and will forever have a special place in the hearts of the department, the community, and most of all her handlers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved K9 Dixie. Thank you, K9 Dixie, Andrew Stewart, and Benjamin Neuhardt.

We are so proud and grateful to serve the Cambridge Community. Thank you to all of the families who have chosen us to help them through a difficult time. Unfortunately, folks have created false pages, again, that must come down. We, unlike some other services, do not post our obituaries on this page. Friends and families are able to easily share these documents from our website. We feel that it’s just professional and is not ours to share. This is the ethical way to handle the personal information of the families we serve.

That being said, please take down any bogus pages created in our name. We use Facebook for emergency schedule changes, veterans events, etc. The information on these other pages can in no way be accurate and is always misleading. Please, out of respect of the families we serve, take these pages down.

Respectfully,

Thorn-Black Funeral Homes.

We at Thorn-Black Funeral Homes, strive to continually provide the best service possible, not only to the families we serve, but also, to our entire community, regardless of their choice of funeral service provider.

So, in the coming weeks, we will be sharing some helpful information, to assist families in planning for the difficult, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, conversations and decisions, that inherently accompany illness and aging.

This is not intended to offend or pressure anyone, but rather, to hopefully make these issues, as they arise, easier to manage.

We’re not talking about picking out a casket, or necessarily preplanning a funeral at all.

We just see a lot of consistencies that folks are not prepared for, and we want to help you through it.

We’ve all been through recently rough years of loss. Our goal is to always provide honesty and compassion.

Our website has always said, what we truly believe, and that is, “We Can Help”. And we always will.

-Take care and God Bless…

We have a list of gratitude we’d like to express to our community, following today’s procession from the Zanesville Airport to our funeral home in Cambridge.

First and foremost, to the honor guard of the Marine Corps for their assistance and dedicated service; to all of the members of law enforcement and fire service who both escorted and stationed on the streets of New Concord and Cambridge as we came through; to the Freedom Riders who escorted on a very cold day; to Mayor Tom Orr and our county commissioners who were present throughout the event; to the residents of New Concord, who lined the streets in a wonderful turnout and show of support; and to the citizens of Cambridge, Ohio, whose turnout was overwhelming to all of those in the procession, and to the family as well; to the sales team at Dunning Ford, owner John Dunning, managers Cory Miller and Eric McKee, and salesman Dory Haxhi, for donating additional transportation; to Cambridge Rental Cars and the Clewell Family and Baymont Inn and Suites, for supporting Marines who will be remaining in the area; and to Andy Parsons and Parsons Collision for repair and detail of our vehicles.

And I, Jon Black, would personally like to thank my staff, David Whittle, Brian Jarrett, Charley Hill, Mayzie Epperson, and Josey Bowman, for their exceptional and professional work today. I am blessed to have you.

Thank you for coming together today Cambridge. It was an honor.
