December 11th UPDATE- It is with great sadness that we report Smokey lost his battle with various disease processes today. The results of the MRI were hopeful, they found no evidence of brain tumors or brain deterioration. He woke from the procedure and did well with the recovery from sedation. We were then contacted by CVETS who notified us that Smokey had bloated. They did radiographs which confirmed that Smokey's intestines had twisted. They did not feel he would survive surgery given his overall condition and age. Smokey was suffering for the first time since he was hospitalized. We made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. Smokey passed away peacefully and with dignity. We would like to thank everyone who supported Smokey over the last ten days through kind thoughts, prayers and donations. We are humbled by your generosity towards an old dog who deserved a chance. Smokey was provided with the best specialty care available thanks to your contributions. Our old boy gave it his all and he was surrounded by caring people until the end. Rest in peace Smokey, until we meet again.
UPDATE on Smokey - He was resting comfortably for the first time in a week, he wasn't agitated at all and sleeping like a rock. His vertigo seems to have improved significantly though he still can not stand on his own. Smokey ate dinner happily and then went back to napping with a full belly. He is currently having his MRI, the procedure will last about an hour and a half. The on staff radiologist at CVETS will review the scans today and we should have some answers by tonight. Thank you for your continued support and prayers!
