We made a special Christmas delivery this weekend to the Dogwood Animal Shelter!! They were thrilled to say the least! Thank you all for your generosity in donating cash/items to our pets that are still waiting for their fur-ever home. It came at just the right time as I was told their pantry was empty. Hopefully it will help our shelter pets have a Merry Christmas 🎄 🐾

A veterinarian says a potentially fatal respiratory ailment that is starting to show up in Philly-area dogs may not be as much of a mystery as once thought.

Please know we are aware of this and that we are monitoring ALL of our dogs closely. There are no known cases in our immediate area. If you have any additional questions or concerns please reach out to us.

As you have likely seen in the media recently, there has been an increase in complex respiratory cases in several states. Rarely dogs are developing pneumonia or serious complications more than is expected from typical causes of 'Kennel Cough'.
There have not been any reported cases in our area at this time. We will provide additional information as it comes available from reputable sources.

What should pet owners be aware of?

• ISOLATE your pet if they develop a cough without known medical explanation. Coughing dogs should not be boarded in a kennel or exercised with other dogs as they could be exposed to other pathogens which could progress their disease and they pose a risk to other pets.

• CONTACT your veterinarian if your pet develops a cough, and monitor for progressive signs such as loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, weakness or nasal discharge. A Pet ER visit might be necessary if after-hours or if your veterinary office does not have availability.

• VACCINATE your pet. Eliminating or reducing certain known infectious respiratory pathogens such as Distemper, Bordetella and Canine Influenza may provide protection against complicated disease.

• RESTRICT your pet from sharing toys and public drinking bowls and from interacting with dogs that are coughing or appear unwell.

As we move full force into the holiday season, I want to take a minute to highlight & focus on our truly amazing employees! This business is more than just “playing with puppies all day.” There is enormous responsibility & hard work taking care of your 4 legged family member, assuring everyone’s safety, & cleaning protocols in place to assure everyone stays healthy. Each role these ladies play is vital to accomplishing those things & it’s not something they take lightly. This business would not run as smoothly as it does if it were not for them. So if you would like to show them a little extra love & appreciation this holiday, I have a stocking hung for each of them. Let’s fill them up to say Thank You!! 🐾🐾🐾
