The link to Zak’s letter can be found by clicking his name at the end of my post, but this is a must read for everyone who prioritizes the welfare and well being of dogs. Everyone should be concerned, not only by the flaws of this study, but by the apparent lack of concern for the welfare of the dogs taking part in this study as well as the stark admittance by shock collar proponents that every dog in the shock or e-collar group yelped when shocked, whether it stopped them chasing or not, clearly demonstrating that the dogs felt pain, even when applied by ‘professionals’ and done ‘correctly.’ This lack of concern for these dogs’ well being and the number of times dogs had to be removed because they exceeded the maximum number of shocks allowed (which was 20) should disgust and concern everyone who shares their lives or works with dogs.
