While the air quality is still perfectly okay here at the farm, the forest fire in Great Barrington is affecting nearby areas and so in addition to our lesson program being at the mercy of weather we are also monitoring air quality.

Note that we are perfectly content to run leadline lessons but that we may opt to cancel lessons involving more advanced work if conditions should change.

Normally at this time of year we’re at the mercy of snow.

Please note, as someone who has worked much smaller brush fires - if you don’t have a valid reason to be near this fire, then don’t be near it. Let those who need to work do so.

Thank you to all of the area first responders. Our thoughts are with those in the immediate area.

For those who have inquired - YES, we do have an Arabian stallion.

We are NOT currently booking breedings. We WILL begin working to change that in February or so, so just stay tuned.

Our goals for Cosmo do eventually include the breeding shed, but our primary focus is proving him as a sport horse in the coming year.

Meet Marie guys.

My social media is devoid of photos of the children who ride here - they do exist, I promise. Out of respect for them, and their families, I usually just wait for families to post photos about their time at the farm.

With Marie’s grandfather’s permission I’m sharing her today. I met Marie over the summer when her family brought her and her sister to the farm for one of our arts and crafts days. Both children were equally wonderful but Marie’s love for these animals was immediately apparent.

She hopped up that day and picked up the reins absolutely correctly - I asked her how many time she had ridden and she said none.

“How did you learn to hold your reins?” I asked.

“I read some and watched Heartland really closely.”

Marie has been riding with us a couple months now, but she doesn’t just ride. She cleans tack, she shoves hay nets, she cleans up manure. And in the few months I’ve known her I’m so proud of her personal growth.

So with her family’s permission, here is Marie on Rocky - off the lead line and off the lunge, working hard to perfect her skills every single week.

This is part of why I enjoy what I do here.

I know no one wants to think about it - but right after fall comes winter. As a facility without an indoor that means we’ve got to plan ahead and make other plans to support our animals.

We will be consolidating our program to three days a week for the cooler months.

This change will not affect currently scheduled clients.

We are still taking new clients for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. During those days we can provide private lessons, semi-private lessons and group bookings for riders of all ages.

Note lessons are available for riders of ALL AGES (5 years and up). We may also have limited partial leasing available for students.

We’re also available for group equine education events (scouts, youth groups, and corporate team building).

We had cubs scouts at the farm this morning for an educational experience involving lectures on feed and care of horses.

They learned how to groom. Due to age restrictions put forth by the Boy Scouts of America we passed on saddle time - but the kids were able to learn some handling on the ground and practice leading our horses through an obstacle course in the ring.

We are available for group functions of this sort - we can customize the experience for your needs.

All ages.

Corporate team building? Yes. Scouts? Absolutely. Don’t want to handle your child’s birthday party? We can handle horse themed parties at our farm and help organize all the things- we’ll even clean up.

Slots available this week for lessons!

Still looking for sign ups to run our horsemanship Thursday - it’s a perfect way for kids to learn about horsemanship from the ground up and an excellent opportunity for parents to finish up those errands.

Waivers must be signed, contact cards must be filled out. You’re also welcome to stay and take part! Pizza will be provided.

Reservation IS REQUIRED. We won’t run the event without at least 5 attendees.

School is in session or will be shortly so we’ve made some changes!

Note we will be doing our open barn arts and crafts event on SATURDAY this week. Leadline rides from 10am to 1pm, $5.00 each with signed waivers.

We are searching for participants for a weekly Thursday barn day - planned activities regarding horsemanship and horse care and fun. We can’t run this event without people - $20 per participant and we’ll provide pizza. Perfect for kids wanting barn time and horse knowledge!

Note we are accepting clients for our lesson program - both children and adults, and would love to get you scheduled!
