Alarming trend: Strangers using pet tags to find owners. Experts advise including only a phone number, and using microchips.

I apologize for not posting in some time. I have recently moved from PA to Alexandria, VA, to be closer to my kids. I am still getting acclimated to the area and adjusting to life in the city having lived in a very small town my entire life. That being said, I hope to continue my pet sitting gig in the Alexandria area.

I have over ten years of experience caring for dogs, cats, chickens, donkeys, snakes, you name it. I offer overnight stays in your home, potty breaks, 24-hour stays, and quick check-ins to make sure your furry children are okay and have not torn your house apart. 😃 I have references as well. So, if you have the need for someone to walk your dog, clean your kitty's litter box, feed your fish or whatever, feel free to contact me!

Valuable information❤️

Through networks of shelters, veterinaries, social media, and other media sources, many lost canines and families reunite. The day is an opportunity to learn more about prevention and networking. There are also steps to take to prevent your family pet from going missing. Some of these preventative steps also help return your dog to you if they do go missing.

Preventative steps to take:
- Keep your dog secure. Whether on a leash or in a fenced yard, your dog is less likely to wander if it is secured.
- Training is valuable. Dogs who have been trained by a professional are less likely to go missing. Most importantly, they learn recall commands. Formal obedience training also offers owners valuable information that can lead to a better relationship between pet and owner.
- Always supervise your animal. Dogs, especially expensive purebreds, can be stolen even from a fenced yard.
- Tags and microchipping help with the recovery of a missing animal. These steps must be completed when you first receive your new family member. While tags are inexpensive to protect your pet, dogs can slip a collar. Many pet adoption sites will hold microchipping events for a fraction of the cost. The price is coming down all the time too. It is essential to keep the information on the microchip or tag up to date also. It is only as useful as the information listed on the chip in helping recover your pet.
- Spaying and neutering reduce your pet's likelihood of wandering off in search of a mate. Additionally, it eliminates the chances of unwanted offspring should your dog wander off unexpectedly.
- Keep records up to date on your animals. That includes photos, vaccinations, and those valuable tags and microchips, too.

So, have I talked to you all about Whiskey yet? No, no, I don’t mean the booze, I mean the dog (although sometimes he acted like he might have gotten into the booze🤣😂)! Whiskey is a sweet puppy, just months old, who I had the privilege of sitting with recently. Never a dull moment with this guy around but he was also so very sweet. Oh, to have the energy of puppies! He loved his toys and running in the yard and digging up things and eating them, which he probably shouldn’t have done. He would usually pay for it later but kept going back for more! 🤣 I loved when he would lay his head on my leg and sleep and give me puppy kisses. He was such a fun boy and I am so pleased I got to spend time with him!💙

Anyone who is contemplating getting a dog must take the time to do their research and educate themselves on the breed they are considering.

PLEASE READ!! This is full of valuable information!

Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

EAT.PLAY.LOVE

“Animal lovers are a special breed of humans, generous of spirit, full of empathy, perhaps a little prone to sentimentality, and with hearts as big as a cloudless sky.” -John Grogan

Six years ago I started pet sitting, mostly for family and friends, but my service now includes several families I sit for on a regular basis. I absolutely LOVE what I do and adore all the pets I sit with, which includes (but is not limited to) dogs, cats, fish, and bunnies. I too have pets of my own whom I love very much and stress over, and I am sure you do the same. Going on a vacation, a business trip, or just leaving your furry loved ones for even a short time can be very stressful for both you and your pets, and this is where I can step in and help alleviate some of the worry and anxiety.
