Peace for Pets

Peace for Pets Peace for Pets is a Northeast Ohio nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe haven for the pets of those seeking shelter from domestic violence.

Our mission is to encourage and educate on the humane treatment of all animals, refine and develop programs to assist pet owners in caring for and protecting their pets, and inspire community involvement and activism. We are not a rescue...however, we know and partner with many rescues in the community and are happy to make referrals. PLEASE NOTE: We are not a shelter and do not assist with findin

g homes for owner-surrender pets. We do not have the capacity to place kittens from unaltered cats. We assist with trap neuter return with feral cats, and on occasion will try to find homes for the young offspring of ferals in the colonies we assist, but we do not accept referrals of kittens needing placed. Peace for Pets' two main programs are the Safe Haven for Pets and the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) of Feral Cats. Safe Haven: Often survivors of domestic violence fear that their pets may be harmed if they leave a bad situation. However, it can be a challenge for people in this situation to find a safe place for pets while they're struggling to find a safe place for themselves. We provide short-term foster care for the pets of individuals who are entering a domestic violence shelter. We can accommodate many types of pets; not just dogs and cats. TNR: We promote, train, and practice Trap-Neuter-Return as the only effective and humane method for controlling the feral cat population. Please visit our website for more information on our programs! Thank you!

UPDATE:
Sophia is a mixed Russian Blue cat, which is why we named her Sophia. We found her name in a book of Russian baby names.

The reason we don’t know her real name is that her owner died leaving her and a sibling alone in the house. Family members came in to feed them, but could not take them. After 3 weeks, when Peace for Pets learned of the situation, we rescued Sophia. Her sister was already adopted as is our plan for Sophia.

She is currently in a Peace for Pet foster home. She was examined by our vet; she is spayed, and her shots are current. She needed a minor dental surgery because she had an infected gum. After two weeks of an anti-biotic, the vet said she was ready to go to an adoptive home. She is a small cat, weighing about 7 lbs. She loves to play with her tail, and will roll around on the floor, just playing by herself. She is very smart and easy to discipline.

She merely ignores the dog in the foster home, a 62 lb. Golden. She is not sure about the cat that lives there, but they are getting used to each other. All 3 love to sit in front of the screened door and look out while the weather is still mild. Sophia is very affectionate and friendly, and again, loves to play. Chasing a crunched up piece of paper makes her happy, but we also notice that cat toys are moved around at night!

If you are interested in meeting Sophia, please email Peace for Pets at [email protected] or text 330-323-9432. We will call you, answer any questions, and send you an adoption application. We require that she remain an indoor cat. We hope you will like her as much as we do. She is a good kitty.

We placed Sopia into a foster home. We had her vetted, she is spayed, and her shots are current. She needed a minor dental surgery because she had an infected gum. After two weeks of an anti-biotic, the vet says she is ready to go to an adoptive home. The vet thinks she is between 6 and 8 years old; she is a small cat, weighing about 7 lbs. but she acts like a much younger cat. She loves to play with her tail, of all things, and will roll around on the floor, just playing by herself. She is very affectionate and friendly.

She ignores the dog in the foster home, a 62 lb. Golden. She is not sure about the cat that lives there, but they are getting used to each other. All 3 love to sit in front of the screened door and look out while the weather is still mild. She also likes to sit in open screened windows.

If you are interested in meeting Sophia, you will need to complete an adoption application which includes a vet reference and 2 personal references. There is a modest adoption fee. Please email us at [email protected] or text 330-323-9432. We will call you, answer any questions, and send you an adoption application. We require that she remain an indoor cat. We hope you will like her as much as we do. She is a good kitty.

We found her owner several hours later on Friday, because she was micro-chipped!

A lesson for all of us. Any vet can read a microchip as well as the pound and if you're in Stark County, the deputy sheriffs are now the "dog wardens" in the community, so they carry microchip readers in their cars.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!! Thank you all so much for sharing!

Everyone needs to stop what they’re doing and share Lulu’s face. Today is her 320th day as a shelter dog and that just breaks our hearts! She is sad and lonely and has lost quite a bit of weight from stress. She mopes around in her kennel and is growing more defeated every day. Our volunteers adore her and spend as much time with her as they can, but it’s no match for a loving home.

Lulu is 7 years old and loves people, including children. She’s gentle and lazy and is usually pretty quiet. She’s wonderful in the car and is easy to walk on a leash when she has her harness on, (she pulls with a collar). She absolutely hates cats and really isn’t a fan of dogs. She had one successful meet and greet with another big chunky dog, but that’s all she wrote. If you are looking for a “one and only pet”, please take a chance on this girl. She deserves so much more than to spend her senior years in a concrete kennel.
