I’ve been keeping fish since I was 11 years young. I kept all different types of fish & tank sizes for many years until becoming a family man, and working hours that didn’t allow the dedication that keeping fish require. My passion took a hiatus for about 10 years, until my wife surprised me with a 75 gallon tank for my 40th birthday, almost 2 years ago. Little did she know it was going to ignite my passion all over again & well, she tolerates me spending hours with my fish, and helps support this madness by feeding the babies (fish) while I’m at work. It’s even become a family affair with our 4 teenagers who are well, teenagers. They help out & are involved in some way or another. Our best helper is our 4 year old who directs me (tells me what to do) and is my biggest encourager. Back to the tank- The 75 gallon tank was just the beginning. It sits in our living room as the focal point of the room, and it’s vast variety of freshwater fish & plants has something for everyone to look at & enjoy. And I cannot not mention our families most beloved fish & Mascot, Bruce the Fahaka Pufferfish. He’s definitely the coolest & has his own 40 gallon tank in our garage.
I’d say the thing I’ve found a likeness most, having a freshwater aquarium, are the exotic Plecos from all over the world. My favorite being a Sultan Pleco from the Tapajós River basin in Brazil. The Pleco while not so “pretty” to most, is it’s own beast & very unique, making it beautiful. I now have 17 tanks set up & running, and am currently breeding Angelfish & Endler’s, among a few others, as well as red, orange & blue shrimp. I most look forward to Spring 2022 when I am hopeful the plecos will spawn.
My ambition with this page is to document the progress of my fish, educate how to maintain the fish, and keep you, my viewers, up-to-date with how I plan to keep along with the building of a full fish room; transforming our home garage into a full functioning freshwater aquarium.
