Everyone, meet Boone. He’s a fancy blue eyed red tri with more desire to please than any dog we have ever met! His owner, a boy named Crockett, is getting to know him. We are excited to be showing him to you in the days to come.

“God bless,” …

You’ve heard people say it a lot. Maybe it’s one of those things you habitually say without even thinking.

Psalm 20:1-5 makes our casual ‘God bless’ seem about as meaningful as a limp handshake. Now this here is how to pray for your loved ones, how to ‘wish them well’. Here is an example in sincerity and faith.

If a person were to have all that is wished for them in these verses, what kind of life would they have? Can you picture yourself having God at your side in trouble, help from Heaven’s sanctuary, support from unlimited resources of Zion? Can you feel the confidence of knowing God remembers your prayers and your devotion to Him? And what if you had the desires of your heart, and all your plans succeeded? How would it feel to have all of us who love you and pray for you cheering your victories in all your struggles and praising God because of what He has done for you?

So with this in mind, let’s all consider our true intentions in saying ‘God bless you’. Hopefully all of us will become articulate in our prayer and the things we desire for our friends and family.

Psalm 20: 6-9 This is the certainty, the absolute confidence in God no matter what you face.

It’s trusting God with abandon. No backup plan. No fall-back, no plan B. It’s God-or nothing. This is how you and I are called to live. (Coming from the kid who faced the greatest warrior of the ancient world with a slingshot and a pebble and won, this means a lot! See 1 Samuel 17) You and I are to be bold. Real. Rock solid and steel tough. Because there’s nothing-not even the best the world has to throw at us- that can come against us and win (verse 8).

The next time you put your foot in the stirrup to step up on a bronc, or back in the box when they call your name, or shake down a loop in a rough pasture after something wild or any of the other things that you do when you just *have to* win, fling all your hopes on God and ride by faith. I can say, just like David: “Now this I know, the Lord gives victory to his anointed.”

We lost a member of our pack yesterday.

Bek, age 14, is now resting quietly under a pinion tree. She had dug her last hole, hunted her last varmint, held up her last mama cow, barked her final greeting and ran off the UPS man for the last time.

Fourteen years a faithful shadow and protector, we will miss Bek very much. We are heavy-hearted here today but brimming with the good memories and joy she brought us throughout her life. She kept with me every step I’ve taken in 14 years, including miles horseback and on the pickup bed. She watched over the children and made herself useful as my pack leader. It will be quite an adjustment now as Zeva shoulders the leadership role, but she had the best teacher and will do her best to fill those shoes.

Bek was a daughter of Girl, a home raised Border Collie; and Griz, out of Lee Starritts’ Border Collie, Casey. Griz’s sire was a leopard Cattahoula cow dog from Dusty Wold. She was the last of Chase’s descendants ( Chase was raised by Johnny Salvo, and was the dog of a lifetime for our family) that we know of, a true treasure of ranch dogs lost to time. Rest In Peace Bek, and thank you God for letting me have Bek for a little while. Thanks for letting her be the one you used to change my life.

I have great help in the green house and garden most of the time, especially if we need anything dug up, carried to random places, or squished.

Finding the right home is something we take pretty seriously. And with our Border Collies, it sure hasn’t been easy! Sweetface goes home today, and we are so excited for her!

Even though things haven’t gone like we planned for this litter, we have been so blessed with these guys.

There’s still a chance you could take one home!

This cross was planned for a short list of folks who wanted one, but the litter was bigger than the list! We’ve had them long enough to really miss them when they go. Every day is fun with them around!

Hey there!

This is me, Cheyenne, of Sun Up Kennels. I get to thank God every day for the wonderful four-legged friends he gave me to care for. We have lots of fun, and we also learn a ton every day!

Nothing has ever humbled me like raising dogs. One the one hand, it’s a daunting climb, but in the other, it is the most fun romp I’ve ever had.

Our kennel has been in a transitional season over the past few months. Along the way we have produced four litters that have been unique and an education in themselves! Returning to regularly posting and storytelling is in the works, but meanwhile, this is your friendly neighborhood dog breeder saying ‘hi’ and reminding you to ENJOY this wonderful day that God has made! He has things on the horizon for us that are going to be amazing, so let’s got for it😁

Snapshots to showcase our very best pups to date.
They’ve come along at a time when no one’s future is certain, everything is up in the air! But it doesn’t seem to bother them-they’re growing well, ready to go live a wonderful life with wonderful people.

Zeva. She’s loving her new position here at Sun Up: granny! Her favorite activity these days is playing like a puppy. So she pretends to be one and hangs out with the ‘skunks’. She just can’t help it! She’s forever young. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😂

Please respond with certainty, serious inquiries only. If you are curious about why she is available, it is simply because she doesn’t qualify as a breeding female for our particular program.

She’s a fabulous dog! If anyone is taking this hard, please take into consideration that Alice is only available to the right home. We phone interview and vet everyone even more strenuously than our puppy homes! Alice must go where her people will really be outdoors having fun, because we DO love her and WE ARE looking out for her best interest.

She would excel at agility, dock diving, flyball, even rally. She would also be the type of dog who would ride a surf board, go mountain biking, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and more. If you know someone who wants a true adventure partner, send them this way!

It’s about time to introduce the litter of Border Collies!

We can’t wait to show you guys. They’re amazing, everything we hoped for.

The good news is that I don’t have a long waiting list for our Border Collies built up. There are 7, and there has been a lot of interest in them. If you think you may want one, be quick to speak up! You’ll have a much better chance of getting to pick the one you want.

These are going to have a very versatile temperament, they’ll be able to work stock or do anything else. Both parents are super athletes!

We are proud to offer a discount to 4H and FFA members with this litter. It is quite exciting for us to be able to support those organizations and individuals this way!

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us!

We are so thankful for each of you following us; full of gratitude for those of you who have brought home a pup from our kennel; and overjoyed that we are able to continue to do this. 2021 has been quite the year!

Our newest additions: the very first litter of Border Collies at Sun Up! This litter is a milestone, two years in the planning😲 (It’s been over 13 years since we produced any Border Collies-that was long before ‘Sun Up Kennels’ was a thing.)

Sun Ups Alice Greenough, aka “Allie-gator”. She’s our prospect this year and when we relocated, we realized we don’t have room! She is currently available. If you have questions, I’ve got answers!! Shoot me a message please. ☺️

She is not quite a year old, has basic leash manners, and loves water. If you fish, or go to the lake or live around water, Alice will love ya! 😂
She’s good with other critters, but doesn’t want to be a working dog. She’s a fantastic buddy for an outdoor family. ☺️

Introducing our latest editions: “The Ghost Riders”

Have you ever heard Johnny Cash’s version of that old song? It’s our favorite, especially for Halloween.

These pups all have reference names out of the song. 🎃 They were born on October 17, a surprise litter by Cash out of Zeva. If you loved the American Outlaws and they got away from you, now is your last chance! Get one while you can. These pups would be full siblings to our girl Penni who we have bragged so much about. 😁

Here’s a special little trivia: you can sing the lyrics of Amazing Grace to the melody of Ghost Riders in the Sky. The meaning of both songs is so powerful😉
