Need a rainy day activity for you and your cat? Why not start training them to voluntarily go into their cat carrier? This could make trips to the vet less stressful for both you and your cat. Let's face it, most cats flee the room when they see that dreaded, dusty, and dark carrier come out of the closet. Why not make the carrier a positive, safe, and happy place for them? Food is always a good motivator. First, desensitize the crate by leaving it out all the time, let them sniff it, and get use to its presence. Then feed many, if not all meals, in the crate- the crate becomes a yummy place! You can do this in smaller approximations if needed over time by only using the bottom portion of the carrier, then add the lid, then add the door! Once your kitty is completely comfortable in and around the crate, you can start asking her to go in on cue. This video is of Missy, one of our employee's cats who was trained to go into the crate voluntarily over the course of a few months.
