When you send your horse to a trainer for 30 days, you don't get a broke horse. 🙌
When you send a horse to a trainer for 60 days, you too don't get a broke horse. 🙌
When you send a horse to a trainer for 90 days... I hate to tell you, you STILL don't have a broke horse! 🙌
Yes you may have a horse that you can RIDE, but that does not mean you have a broke, perfect horse by any means. (Heck even my old girl has her moments, and she's going on 26🤦♀️ lol)
A broke horse takes YEARS of experience. A broke horse takes TIME, DEDICATION (between trainer and owner), and TRUST that when your horse leaves, you try to continue with that. I've definitely been learning lately that horses are horses, horses aren't perfect, they make mistakes and we as trainers/owners need to continue working with them to better their education.
I'd say the hardest part of my job (and I've explained this to many people) is that the horses are working with trainer 99 percent of the time. Owner picks up horse, works the horse with you before they leave, takes horse home, and then doesn't do anything with it, and then they expect it to be broke, after sitting for months. (NOT saying my clients think this, I'm just speaking for everyone here.) If you do choose to have your horse sit for a few months, remember to bring them out and start the basics with them and built them back up!
Just remember it takes a team. It takes the team between YOU and YOUR HORSE to continue with the education taught. Horses are smart. They retain things. Just keep the mindset that it takes a while to have a broke horse. Us equestrians are TOUGH people! 💯
