Elsa was born to be wild!
Sharing one of the most creative gifts WVFS has received this year. The post office delivered a very large package that was made up to resemble a coin, super cute packaging, inside was a super neat money garland and some very special coins. Thank you Ferrets Bueller for all you do and have done for the ferrets here at WVFS. You are appreciated!

Ferret with cerabellar issues?
This handsome 7 month old ferret was surrendered yesterday. He was originally acquired by a person who purchased him on a whim and no longer wanted him, he was too much trouble.
2nd pic in comments is of an ear mite.
The person who brought him here already has two eight year old ferrets and adding a 7 month old to the mix was not something she was prepared for, but she knew she couldn't leave him where he was. She also noticed right away he was having some motor skill issues and wanted to get him somewhere he could get help.
We contacted our vet right away, and from the video we sent she indicated it may be a cerabellar problem and to check for ear mites. Ear mites are not uncommon AT ALL. A high percentage of ferrets that come through our doors have ear mites, however we have not personally seen them cause motor skill issues. Upon examination of this ferrets ear gunk, he has a giant colony of ear mites. So many ear mites that they have skyscrapers and mass transit built up in there. This guy has been treated for ear mites and will be going in for a full checkup with our vet.
All kidding aside, we hope this will be an easy fix for him and please if you have not recently taken your pet to see a qualified doctor, please do so. And don't forget to request that they check for ear mites, many of them don't. Ear mites are uncomfortable for any animal at best and in extreme cases can cause serious permanent damage.
The cerebellum maintains our motor equilibrium and calibration of movements. It is an essential region of the brain playing a central role in maintaining our gait, stance, and balance, as well as the coordination of goal-directed movements and complex movements. Dysfunction manifests as clumsiness and "drunken" gait.
