How and Why we Began:
There is a limited supply of Domestic Bunny Rescues and Resources. Our Mission Statement:
Helping domestic ra

bbits in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach. Our Story:
With a history in animal rescue, we began to realize that there were many problems in the domestic rabbit rescue world. With overpopulation, rabbits being abandoned or dumped, lack of knowledge of rabbit care, and limited rescues specializing in their care, rehab, and adoption. Within the first month, they had over 30 surrender requests some being rabbits found in the streets, or being dumped. After one year we had saved over 120 rabbits and had over 100 adoptions. However, we still have a long waitlist for intake and more at shelters waiting to be pulled. We keep a maximum of 25 adoptable rabbits (between foster homes, and our adoption center), as we like to keep our rescue small so we can ensure we get to personally know each rabbit so they are spoiled and receive special care before going to their forever homes. With many of our rabbits needing some time after intake for a proper diet, retrust in humans, and socialization, we want to ensure they receive the slow transition so they become the best bunnies for their family. As we celebrate our accomplishments, we also want to celebrate what a gift it is to have such a supportive and generous community that supports this journey. Our rescue focuses on the unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, and abused domestic rabbits, we want to show them the life they deserve. As a 501c Rescue, The Bunny Trail Rescue is solely donation-based. Therefore, we must rely on fundraising and help from the community to achieve our budgetary goals.

Ensure your holiday is a joyful experience for your little friend. Embrace these essential safety tips to protect your bunny and let the festivities shine bright.

***Plants & Christmas Trees*** - If your Christmas tree has not been treated with fire retardants, pesticides, or paint, it should be safe for your bunny to chew on. However, keep in mind that natural chemical compounds in some evergreens may cause your bunny's urine to turn a more orange color than usual; this is not a health concern.

***Lights, Cords, Decorations*** If possible, place your Christmas tree in a room where your bunny doesn't play. If this isn't feasible, you can make the tree "off-limits" to your rabbit by surrounding it with a puppy pen, or by using the pen to section off the area of the room where the tree is located. This will help keep both you and your rabbit safe from chewed electrical cords and will help preserve your favorite Christmas ornaments as well.

***Company and the Hubbub of the Holidays*** To help reduce your rabbit's stress, try to maintain her routine as much as possible. Remember to give her plenty of attention and reassurance. If your bunny is especially sensitive to noise and activity, consider moving her to a quieter room when you have company.

This Giving Tuesday, consider supporting your local bunny rescue.
The domestic bunny crisis in California is escalating, and your support is more vital than ever. Rising costs for supplies, utilities, and medical care are depleting our budget, while we continue to operate over maximum capacity. Adoption rates are at their lowest in three years, making our mission even more urgent.

Every bunny in our care has been rescued from euthanasia lists, some arriving in extremely poor condition. Local shelters face challenges in providing long-term care, and without timely intervention, many rabbits risk losing their lives due to space limitations.

By supporting your local bunny rescues, you help us partner with shelters, rehabilitate bunnies, and prepare them for loving new homes. Together, we can make a difference and give these wonderful animals a second chance at life.

In just three inspiring years since our founding, we have rescued over 230 bunnies, finding loving homes for more than 200 of them. With 100% of our funding coming from community donations, every contribution—no matter the size—makes a significant impact, allowing us to care for our bunnies and give them the love they deserve while they await their forever families.

We are thrilled to announce a new fun initiative aimed at supporting our beloved bunnies in a fun and creative way! We invite all of our artistically gifted supporters to unleash their creativity by designing adorable and imaginative drawings. These drawings will be transformed into vibrant stickers, which will then be available for donation.

If you’re passionate about art and want to contribute to our furry friends, this is the perfect opportunity. Your unique designs can help raise awareness and funds for bunny care and welfare. Whether you prefer illustrations, doodles, or any other artistic style, we would love to see your creations!

We can’t wait to see your amazing drawings, due by December 4th. Don’t forget to include the name of the adorable bunny you’re featuring—it’ll really help highlight their cuteness! Once we have all the drawings in, we’ll share them for voting, and the top five will be made into fun stickers!

We can't wait to showcase our community's incredible talent and bring these delightful stickers to life. Join us in making a positive impact while expressing your creativity! Happy Drawing!

Our adoption center is now open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families are welcome to visit our adoptable bunnies and learn about opportunities for fostering, adopting, and volunteering.

We kindly ask that families refrain from holding or opening kennels while the adoption center is open to the public. This policy helps us ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our bunnies and is reserved for our wonderful volunteers and those with adoption appointments. Since bunnies can be quite territorial, minimizing interactions before entering their space helps reduce the risk of biting. Thank you for your understanding and support! We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our bunnies happy and safe.

Maverick before and after - this little sweet buddy has started his molting ♥️ his handsome white fur is coming in so pretty and erasing the urine/sun burn that he had from his previous life. He gets so excited to meet new people and reach up to say hello and get treats. 🥰

In our retail spot we have some of my favorite products for bunnies - including cleaning supplies that are vinegar based! pet.health is one of my favorite kibbles for bunnies - they always gobble it up!! It’s especially my favorite kibble that I recommend for bunnies who are GI Stasis prone, or over 4yrs old.
My other favorite (and the bunnies too) is - this brand of freeze dried fruits are preservative and additive free. They also don’t do any added sugars to their fruits. So the PERFECT treat for bunnies!
You can come by our adoption center and purchase any of these products and the proceeds help go towards caring for our bunnies.

*We're looking for loving foster homes* Even though we've been at full capacity for over a year, we still can't open intakes to help the MANY bunnies in need.
Our rescue offers fostering, foster-to-adopt, and adoption for our adorable bunnies. We'd also love some helping hands to care for them, and we have volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. All volunteer hours are eligible for Community Service Hours.

Our hearts go out to Tommy Boy as we welcome him into our care. We received an urgent plea from our local shelter to rescue him from the streets of Salinas, where he was found covered in a thick layer of flea dust and infested with fleas and ear mites. He was so skinny and in need of nourishing food to help him regain a healthy weight.

Today, Tommy had his neutering and wellness exam at the Avian & Exotic clinic. The staff there spoiled him with great care, and we are so grateful for how well they looked after our bunnies when they needed medical attention.

If you are interested in Fostering, Volunteering, or Adopting - you can fill out our applications on our website: www.thebunnytrailrescue.org

Hi, My name is Emmett.
In May 2023, I was only 6-8 weeks old and brought into a kill shelter in LA County. I had been surrendered an hour earlier and needed to be saved within two hours, or I would face euthanasia. I had overgrown teeth, which required immediate attention. Fortunately, the Bunny Trail found a foster for me overnight and picked me up in Santa Clarita the next day to save my life. The first night, they noticed I had spells where I would tilt my head back and fall over, but after trimming my teeth, the episodes stopped.
I was able to get life-changing surgery, removing my incisors to avoid monthly teeth trimmings and anesthesia. Now, I am enjoying plenty of attention and snuggles.
I am finally old enough to find my forever home. I do need help with my feeding as I cannot bite into anything properly without my incisors. I love to lounge around, and entertain my humans by sticking my tongue out at them when I'm nice and comfy.

Greetings, I am London (London Fogg).

It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I came to reside at The Bunny Trail in July of 2021 after being rescued from the streets.

Since then, I have been enjoying my days lounging about and observing human activity. At times, I can't help but feel that I am superior to them, but I remind myself that we all have our moments of pride. As of yet, I have not found my perfect human companion, but I remain hopeful that they will come along soon. I require a human who is willing to put in the effort to earn my love and approval. If something fails to meet my standards, I may express my disappointment with a small sigh of disapproval (aka growl).

Hi I am Rudy!

I came to The Bunny Trail Rescue from a shelter in Monterey County. They had too many bunnies, and needed room for the ones that came in. Me and my brother Clarence had been there a while, so the shelter was going to take us to the "bad room" to let us sleep for a long time because no one was interested in us.

I am glad The Bunny Trail saved us. I like it here. I got toys that I like to play with, treats to eat, and fun people to watch. I am still a bit shy since this is a new experience for me, but I hope to get a family of my own soon.
