The absolute hardest part of having horses is saying goodbye- and it gets harder every single time. Goose passed away on Monday, April 21st and my heart is broken into a million pieces.
Goose was the perfect addition to my program from day one. She was the most careful teacher and I could always trust her to be safe with anyone, anytime. She was the ultimate confidence builder.
She was one of the toughest horses too- she fractured her splint bone (during turnout) which had to be surgically removed. She made it through a scary impaction afterwards that lasted days. The vet school gave her a 10% chance of survival but we knew she was tough and she made it. When she was ready to go back to work, she never missed a beat.
Goose loved to be outside in the pasture with her buddies and would sometimes escape while I was cleaning her stall to run to the pasture gate, she loved attention and to be groomed, she enjoyed her baths and body clips, and her pink bell boots. I miss her running in from the pasture and her whinny when she was ready to go outside. Sheโd walk right on any trailer without hesitation. She was finicky about how certain treats smelled and would only eat the fancy cookies- or oranges!
It feels like Goose was in my life for 20 years. I was her person and Iโm thankful she knew that.
Rest In Peace, Goosey Girl
