Earlier this week my own family had to say goodbye to one of the newer members of our kitty family.

He was only 2 years old...
..With his unique mustache marking and his big ears, slender frame, and feisty attitude (earning him the nickname The Worm, both for his personality and skinny black tail).

It endeared us to him because he was such a weird little guy.

He had a confident and cocky personality and was a unique and funny character, causing us to make jokes that if people could come back as cats, then certainly Freddie Mercury was him, in cat form. He came into our home of four cats, with a swagger of a little king (or Queen) 🕺👑🤴

Thank you to Dr. Kristen Neumann and Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice for helping us to give little Freddie a peaceful passing at home in his favorite heated bed, with all of us beside him to say goodbye.

Lap of Love has provided invaluable comfort to us over the last 10 years, as we said goodbye to 3 of our kitties, and now Freddie.

Their service is incredibly compassionate, thoughtful, calming and sensitive to both the pet and to the owners who are in the middle of their very obvious grief, on a very hard day.

I really can't recommend them enough, and I feel very grateful that we were able to help our Freddie in this way also. 💛🙏

August is Alopecia Awareness month...

Unwanted hair loss is traumatic and painful, for anyone, regardless of gender.

I choose to shave my head by choice, but I stand in solidarity with those people who don't have a choice. 🙏

If you see someone with a bald head or even a buzz cut, it's not always cancer or some type of a statement.

Hair loss shows up in many forms and Alopecia is one of them.

Alopecia doesn't always mean complete baldness.

Sometimes hair grows back a bit and then falls out.

It can look like someone has a buzz cut similar to mine.

It's normal to evaluate what we see and make judgments based on appearance because that's how the human mind makes sense of the world around us.

The best thing to do is get to know each person individually, and not make assumptions.

If you suffer from hair loss of any kind, I hope that you know that you are worthy and wonderful, regardless of your hair length, or lack of hair.

Wigs, scarves and hats are always an option, but they should be just that, an option.

Hold your head up high!

How we treat each other, and who we are inside, should matter most of all.

And besides, our differences make us beautiful.
