Farewell to a Beloved Friend – January 20, 2025

Biscuit was found on the side of the road on a Friday afternoon in October 2021 by a police officer. Biscuit was a mess and thought to be between 6 and 10 years of age. Overweight with rashes all over, ear and eye infections and scared. So when he was taken to a local shelter and evaluated they said he dangerous and scheduled him to be euthanized. We were notified of his situation from our friends at Bullies To The Rescue and Chris Wainwright, husband of our founder, Sarah, went to pick Biscuit up from the shelter immediately.

After about a month of Biscuit being in our care, we helped him get back into a healthy weight, we gave him medicine for his allergies, chronic dry eye, ear infection, and skin sores. Once he was comfortable, his personality really began to blossom. Biscuit would play with our other bulldog mix, he liked to explore outside, and he loved squeaky balls…he actually had an obsession with squeaky balls. Biscuit loved his new chance at life!

Almost four years later, Biscuit started showing us that he was having a really hard time and in a lot of pain. He was getting angry easier, he completely lost interest in playing, his food wasn't even that interesting. And bulldogs LOVE food so this was alarming.

He was diagnosed with GOLLP, Geriatric Onset Laryngeal Paralysis Polyneuropathy. Biscuit was having frequent problems where he would not be able to get enough oxygen and then panic until he fell asleep. Along with all Biscuits other allergies and arthritis we knew Biscuit was no longer comfortable. We checked with the vet for any other options to help him have a better life, but Biscuit had his own way of reassuring us that it was his time to walk the rainbow bridge. Now we have helped him cross, and he is at peace.

Thank you from the bottom of our heart to everyone that supported and loved Biscuit. Huge shout-out to Marina who always gave Biscuit spa days, complete with baths, nail clipping, and all the treats. Biscuit had a community behind him, and we are so grateful to everyone that was part of it!

Biscuit, we love you so much! We hope you have so many squeaky balls in heaven. Rest easy 💙

🐱Meet Mavis!🐱 This is sweet little girl was found alone, abandoned in the woods, flea infested, and soaking wet at roughly 4 weeks old.

She has made huge strides since arriving at the sanctuary and has quickly stolen the hearts of our volunteers! She is playful, loves to be brushed and petted, has a great appetite, and is quite the little talker! She loves to snuggle in her clam shell bed, is great for nail trims, and was a rockstar during her baths to remove the fleas! This girl will surely melt your heart.

Mavis is currently being fostered at a volunteer’s home. She has had her first series of vaccines, has been dewormed, and is FeLV/FIV negative!

We are accepting donations to help cover her veterinary expenses, food, litter, vaccines, and spay before being placed in her new home.

⭐️Welcome Goldie⭐️

Goldie is a senior Quarter Horse mare that came to the sanctuary earlier this fall. She was once a working ranch pony, but we unfortunately know little about her history. She shows signs that she has experienced both mental and physical trauma and has lost all trust in humans. We are working on rebuilding her trust with people and we are excited to show this sweet girl love, affection, and a caring hand. ❤️

Farewell to a Beloved Friend –

William was one of the first horses to arrive at Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary. He came to us with a personality that was full of life and attitude. Bred, born and raised as a show horse, William knew his worth and never failed to let us know it. He loved fans in his stall and run-in shed. He loved molasses horse treats. He loved belly scratches. He most certainly did not approve of being outside in the heat, or of bugs.

Seemingly an unlikely sanctuary horse, William ended up in our care after suffering a debilitating horse trailer accident that made him unrideable. That accident put him on the path that so many unfortunate horses follow – unusable and unwanted, from having a home to finding himself at an animal shelter. But he was wanted at Keeper’s Haven, and believed himself in charge of all of us from the day of his arrival. We promised him that we would tend to his old injuries and that he would be cherished for all of his days. And so he was.

Nearly a year ago William started exhibiting some signs of neurological distress. He was examined by different veterinarians and an equine chiropractor. We supported him with medication, magnawave treatment, supportive hoof care, chiropractic care and love. But the day came, on August 31, 2024, when spinal lesions caused him too much distress and inability to move comfortably to continue. We, his human keeper’s, knew it was time for our beloved and brave William to journey onward. He left this world peacefully, to the sound of chanting and prayers.

Gracious Creator, you have given us the blessing and responsibility of caring for William for these many years. We have done our best and have loved him well. We ask you to welcome him to your kingdom and we trust in your mercy, and in your goodness. Keep him close, Creator. For in the doing you will also mend our hearts, which are so broken now. Blessed Creator, hear our prayer. 🙏🏻
