PHOEBE GOLDEN PUPDATE

Well, last Thursday, when, , Nancy picked up Phoebe and her sister Summer, we were under the impression that they were puppy puppies. In fact, they're almost eleven months! No problem there, but the first night, little 7 pound Phoebe started her heat. I asked the original owners if she'd previously had a heat cycle, and that was a negative. So, off to the Google I went. Most females have a first heat at 6 to 7 months, but the deeper I dug, I found on breeder pages that for lil Yorkie girls, it's 10 to 12 months. She's officially a teenager now 😍.

Nancy and I had planned to separate them, and miraculously, Phil & Jean, who adopted Lil Joe from us last year, asked to foster one of the girls! Lil Joe (at 4 pounds then) was endangered at a Parker Arizona trailer park chained to a cheap lawn chair for 2 of his 4 years (every single day) and was afraid of everything when we took him in. Any bird snake or coyote could have gotten to him, and it's amazing he lived through that nightmare. 😬

He's now Mr. Personality 🀩 and rules the roost, so it's been fun and a little shocking for Jean Madden and her sister Karen to see Miss Phoebe boss him around. He's cool with her stealing his leftovers, sleeping in his new bed, taking his toys, and bully sticks away from him. His only rule has been established: Phoebe is in someone's lap he has to be in someone's lap. We have supplied feminine diapers for her and will monitor her cycle and coordinate her spay date to make sure it has passed before her hysterectomy. She'll be 1 on June 19th, 2024.

Jean and Karen report that her personality is starting to come out, and she's just a little doll. We love her 😍

PLEASE WELCOME PHOEBE & SUMMER TO Fluffs & Scruffs, A Dog Rescue

With thanks to our sister, rescue Tiffini Cartozian of Yorkie Rescue of America for the heads up on these 11 month old sweethearts. The owners are very kind people who were having a problem with the littles being too puppyish for their older, more sedate, dogs. They opted to send the babies to Rescue instead of blindly rehoming them or shelter bound. And they kept their older dogs! Thank you! ❀️

Phoebe is 7 pounds and outgoing. Summer is 9 pounds and a little shy but loves to be held. We don't expect them to get any bigger, and they will be spayed next month when they are 1 year old. DOB 6/19/23.

They will be separated as we don't believe in adopting same litter pups together. This way, Phoebe can be herself, and Summer will develop much needed confidence!

We are so excited for these little girls to blossom. They are being fostered by our Director of Adoptions Nancy Golden Towle who has been unavailable to foster as she has had her daughters boy dogs while they navigated surgeries for Nancy's daughter and grandson who have a devastating disease called VHL. Please keep Chelsea and Tommy in your prayers. They are going through A LOT. I'm so happy Nancy and Scott will get some puppy love to cheer them up! Thank you, Nancy and Scott! ❀️

RIEP BUSTER πŸ’”

Our neighbor's Steve and his husband just lost their gorgeous 17 year old boy Buster.

Steve wanted to donate all of Buster's belongings to a small rescue group like ourselves, including his bed, food, leash, feeding bowls, clipper sets, and many, many more items.

It is a DEEP honor to receive such a gift, and it has been and will be treated with the utmost respect towards Buster and his life well lived with all the amazing love from his Daddy's.

We are beyond appreciative of Steve's ability to send a part of Buster's daily life on ... to help other rescue pups. Thank you, Steve. We are celebrating Buster with love πŸ’”.

Photo's: First photo is of Buster. Second, I had put Buster's bed in the rocking chair while I made a spot of honor for it, and Lollipop, our four pound terrorist, jumped right in and was so proud of himself! Last, our new boys, Sawyer and Basil from San Bernadino Shelter, are using Buster's bowls for their homemade breakfast as we try to put weight on them.

MOLLY BRANCA ADOPTED

Back in early March, notified us of 2 owner surrenders, Molly 9yo Labradoodle & Rocky 7yo Great Pyrenees. Centa's friend Mayoli McAlister is a neighbor of the son who was surrendering his parents' dogs as they were entering assisted living, and she ran point on this rescue.

Molly & Rocky were shelter bound, and although we are a small dog rescue group, we couldn't handle them being thrown into a shelter. πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Christy and Jeff Freud stepped up to foster both dogs on their beautiful Labrador Abbey's 8th birthday. Rocky was still in "protection" mode and tried to attack Abbey, so we put him back in Mayoli's vehicle straight away! 😳 Thankfully, Christy and I were able to hold all 150 pounds of Rocky back.

Molly, at 9, had never had another home, and we were all very upset about the situation. Over the next month, as Molly settled into their pack, Christy and Jeff watched her unwind and only wanted the very best for this beautiful senior. They WERE the best as it happened. ⚘️.

I was on my way back to the desert from picking up supplies at when a potential adopter called to set up a meet and greet. When I let Christy know, she said her and Jeff couldn't let Molly be moved yet again, that they couldn't imagine putting her through that, and what were the next steps to adopt Molly? I got all teared up 😭. What JOY to my ears. Our Foster's always have first right of adoption (as they should), and to know Molly didn't having to go through being uprooted all over again was everything to us! 🀩

As the amazing photographer had taken the "intake: photos of Molly before even grooming, we thought it would be lovely to have an "outcome" adoption photo of the Freud's and their entire pack. Thank you, Christy & Jeff. This one touched us deeply! God bless you all! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Molly will have nothing but the best going forward.πŸŒŸπŸ‘‘βœ¨οΈ The current running joke is will Molly have a custom closet built like Shilo's πŸ˜‚??? Happy Tails, sweet Molly!

WHAT AN AMAZING ADOPTION WEEKEND WE'VE HAD AT THE BARKING LOT!

We are so thankful to Tom for inviting us to celebrate The Barking Lot's 10th Anniversary with him. Tom invited so many of us rescue's to participate and we loved meeting everyone! Our friend of kicked off the 3 day event Friday, and we'd like to congratulate Bianca on her recent engagement! ❀️

Yesterday, we got to show with our dear friend Alice Chow, founder of . We both brought some of our hard to adopt out dogs. It's always important to bring our fearful, handicapped, and medical dogs to adoption events, exposing them in short increments so they can work on their confidence in public. Alice had some beauties and we brought our Tripod (hit by car) and sarcoma survivor (last year) Blackie Beau and our pretty over looked terrier mix Daisy. All the dogs did really well! 😁

This morning came by to hang out, and she fell in love with Daisy (2nd photo). Gayle is an awesome trainer who is local, and over the years, she has helped a lot of our Adopters.

Jaymee Swain came by next (3rd photo). Jaymee had rescued the young Frenchie mix Chanel and asked us to adopt her out to a younger family, which we did last month. She she is still looking for an older female pug-ish mix for herself.

, our amazing Foster and friend of many years, spent her birthday weekend Sunday with us and stayed through closing to help me break down and load out. The first photo is of Centa holding one of Laura's puppies and Jason, our helper, for the weekend. He is the sweetest, and his parents let him adopt Blueberry from Laura's rescue, sister of the baby Centa is holding. We hooked him up with harness, leash, and collar from , and Alice gave him a crate. πŸ₯°

We didn't adopt out any from the event, nor did Alice, but Laura adopted out two puppies today 😍.

So happy to have met some awesome rescues from our Valley for the first time and hope we can do this again real soon! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

TOTO PUPDATE

Toto had 15 rotten teeth pulled yesterday, and he is on Doxycycline and Tramadol for pain. His neuter went well, and our groomer, Yanira, did a great job getting him cleaned up and smelling lovely. As our adoption event is at a grooming salon this weekend, I may have the stained fur around his mouth trimmed off, which Yanira didn't do because she stayed true to the look this dog should have.

He's so proud of himself 😭 he's been hu***ng the boys all evening, but in the absolute friendliest way πŸ˜‚ and no one is taking offense. πŸ˜‰ He's an absolute sweetheart, and I'm sure he'll be adopted quickly!

He's on my homemade food with rice and pumpkin, and he loved it! He's alert and comfortable, attentive, and like Basil gives great kisses!

Toto's new name is Sawyer Cruz! He's got swag this little guy πŸ˜πŸ‘‘

Sawyer's blood work showed high neutrophils and monocytes, platelet count, and low HGB. We have an appointment with Dr. Sig to discuss, but Sawyer is in pretty good health comparatively other than his little mouth, which is now sorted.

I can't wait to see how stunning both Sawyer and Basil are going to be on the other side of unequivocal neglect. Thrilled we got him. I had searched all over the shelter for him and couldn't find him. I asked Indy, shelter staff, to take me to where he could be. There were only two small dog kennels. We still couldn't find him, and Indy realized he was hiding on the inside. She held him up on the inside, and I said yes, I will take that little 8 year old hot mess. πŸ”₯ To find he was friendly once in my vehicle was sure icing on the cake!

Thank you to all that donated. You're appreciated beyond measure. ❀️❀️❀️ Let's find Sawyer a new, loving forever home!

Also, as I ran out of room on Basil's post, a huge thank you to Dr. Sig and the amazing staff at Loma Linda Animal Hospital. Their work on my dog's is nothing short of exemplary and I appreciate them deeply. ⚘️

BASIL BARON PUPDATE

We rescued Basil Tuesday from SBC Shelter. His left eye was very infected. He went straight to our veterinarian, Dr. Sigdestad.

Basil's left tear duct is blocked. The cause of the infection is unknown. It could have been from the severe matting on his face. He could have gotten something in the eye on the road, or it could be from the tear duct being blocked. It may well have been the condition that his eye has been in for a very long time. His blood work came back with high neutrophils and monocytes. Otherwise, the blood work was good. Doctor and I will be discussing that tomorrow.

He has been started on Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension eye drops and Doxycycline antibiotics. His Dental went well, he didn't lose any teeth, and he was neutered without complication.

Our wonderful groomer at Loma Linda, Yanira, had her hands full getting the stench off him & doing her level best to even out the emergency mercy shave down that he was given at the shelter. His skin is red and very sore, as are his front paws, but that hasn't stopped him running gleefully in our backyard today.

He loves to play ball, and hilariously, I didn't think there were any toys outside as the wind is bad down here and they blow into the pool, but he found one, brought it to my feet & it was game on for an hour πŸ˜‚. I'm so glad that he's found some joy. We’ll get a video tomorrow. I believe he's closer to 6 years old based upon his eyes - the shelter had guessed five. We'll be going back when he finishes both the eye drops & antibiotics for a recheck of his eyes. Depending on how he heals up, he might have surgery to fix the duct & we may have to consult with Eye Care for Animals as well regarding cataracts.

He has diarrhea, likely stress induced. I make our dogs food and added rice to his tonight with pumpkin to calm his tummy. We're just getting ready for bed, & I guess we're about to find out if he's ever slept in one. I'm so happy that we rescued Basil. No dog should have to go through what he has. It's a joy to watch them decompress. 😍 Thank you all who donated! You're appreciated beyond measure!

PLEASE WELCOME WICKET MOYER TO FLUFFS & SCRUFFS

This gorgeous little guy's Mom was shelter intercepted by Carol Moyer, and she gave birth to Wicket on February 1st, 2023. Carol helps keep a lot of dogs out of shelters and off of the dreaded Craigslist then places them with multiple rescue groups. She gave us Squeakers and Pumpkin during lockdown, and we found them both amazing homes!

We agreed several months ago to take Wicket in when we had room. He was fully vetted at Loma Linda Animal Hospital at that time, and he recovered with Carol. Wicket is likely a maltese mix who weighs approximately 10 pounds now and is fully grown. 😍

He seems quite shy/discerning at first but is very sweet and interestingly quite independent all at the same time! He's perfect and will be at our adoption event this weekend. Please share for Wicket's forever home, and please email [email protected] for an adoption application.

Baptized and educated earlier in life at Saint Paul's Lutheran in Lynwood, CA, I became Catholic 10 years ago today at Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills, CA after studying and graduating their RCIA Program.

It was an incredible journey as since moving back from London I had been church shopping for 20 years in and around LA. Never finding what I was seeking...

One Sunday morning in 2009 I attended the Church of the Good Shepherd's 8am Mass and I felt instantly comforted. I attended that same mass at 8am every Sunday for five years before I began studying. It's been life changing for me in so many ways but profoundly so in that as my soul settled and calmed I realized I'd had an incredible life and wanted to give back. Then dog rescue came into my life via my Franchesca Valentina and Fluffs & Scruffs, A Dog Rescue was born. Here's to many more years.

I'm at the very far left in our final ceremony. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Michelle Godier SURPRISED US WITH A VISIT THIS MORNING! I'm so happy!! 😍

Y'all might remember Michelle and I working tirelessly for 6 months for our fabulous fundraiser in March of 2018 at The Hair of The Dog Pub in Palm Springs. We were four months in on our 2020 fundraiser slated for April 2020 at Hot Purple Energy with musicians flying in from Nashville when lockdown hit. 😭😭😭

Well my sis moved to Arizona and has been bartending at Fox's on the river in Parker, AZ ever since! And her twinsTrent and Nick left Washington State to join her! Then her and her Beau our friend Kevin Eugene Morford proposed to her and now they are married. 🫠

We had a wonderful time catching up and now I am wondering if I should move to Arizona too πŸ›πŸ«£πŸ˜‚

Michelle gave us $50 each for Basil and Toto, brought a bunch of belly bands, harnesses and all the marketing tools we use for adoption events which we need for this weekends event! Saved me a trip to Staples and all ❀️❀️❀️

Franchesca and Gemma were thrilled to see their Auntie! Michelle met her new nephew Luca Marcel for the first time. And boy did he fall in love! She didn't get to see Mom though as she was out at an appointment which was sad. We miss her living around the block so much and I'll be visiting her soon when I deliver my sister in law her new dog.

Here is the sweetest series of photo's showing my sweet son falling in love with his Auntie! Great to see you sis! Love you sooo much! πŸ’‹

WOW! Y'all might remember that Molly, the owner surrendered Labradoodle, is being fostered by Christy and Jeff Freud, whom we adore.

Their friends Jennifer and Phil Kenney had asked for donations to Fluffs & Scruffs in lieu of Birthday presents for Phil last week. Here are just some of the wonderful items they have brought us! We also received a check for $50 and a gift card for PETCO, multiple treats of which Luca Marcel is munching on in the photo in our kitchen.

Not featured is an XXL dog bed that needs assembly. If I put it together, I can't get it in the car 🀣. We are giving the bed, some of the food and treats to Mayoli and David who have Molly's former brother/housemate Rocky the great Pyrenees. It's so wonderful to have all these extra supplies and food that we can share with our fosters. ❀️

Thank you, Phil, for donating your birthday to us AND even dropping it off to our door! It means so much to us. We hope your party was an absolute ball.

The sign Jennifer had made to display at Phil's party included our logo and the message to donate. (It's propped up in the photos). When I saw Jennifer had gone to the trouble of having the sign LAMINATED I just started crying. 😭

THANK YOU Jennifer and Phil! ⚘️😍

PLEASE WELCOME TOTO TO Fluffs & Scruffs, A Dog Rescue

I went to SBC City of San Bernardino Animal Services this afternoon to pull two dogs. One of them was adopted minutes before I arrived so this little 8 year old was our lucky spot number two, and we couldn't be happier. ❀️

His shelter name is Toto. As with Basil Toto has no thread or pledges.

We went straight to Loma Linda Animal Hospital to see Dr. Sig. Toto has a lot of urine burns on his undercarriage and legs, and rotten teeth. SBC treated him topically for fleas. We did bloodwork, which will be back tomorrow. Hopefully, he'll be in good enough health/condition for neuter and dental, but he'll get groomed first thing. He told me he didn't like how badly he smelled. 🀒 Pretty sure the dental will be first up providing he's ok. That little tiny mouth is hurting.

In addition to bloodwork, dental, neuter, and grooming, little man will have a heartworm test, f***l to laboratory, 3 year rabies vaccine, antibiotics, and pain meds. In other words, our usual protocol for a senior. 🫠

He's precious and has a lot of love to give. Gave us so many appreciative πŸ’‹ Kisses.

If you are able to donate towards Toto's vetting, we'd surely appreciate it 😍

I went to SBC City of San Bernardino Animal Services this afternoon to pull 5 year old Basil who is in pretty rough condition. I immediately noticed bright green discharge surrounding and emanating from his left eye πŸ’”. I was very concerned and wanted to get him to the vet asap.

He didn't have a shelter name but we hope you recognize him from his shelter intake card. Jennifer from The Lange Foundation named him Basil! ❀️

He had candy wrappers and gum trapped in his fur and we are very grateful to the volunteers who gave him a mercy shavedown under sedation. He was also infested with fleas. The shelter treated him topically.

Basil has no thread or pledges.

This one year old sweetheart is available for adoption. Foxy weighs 20 pounds currently but should be 25 at adult weight. Teri has fully vetted him, all shots, microchip, f***l to Laboratory, Heartworm test and his neuter is next week. She's asking for a rehoming fee of $250. A fraction of what she's spending on this boy she's rescued in Landers.

Teri says: "Foxy gets along great with dogs & cats and plays well with both. He's a fantastic companion animal. He's a lover lap dog. I can't say enough good about this little guy. We want a great indoor home for him and are excited to speak with you."

Please tag and share to get the word out on this little guy. Ran him through the dogscanner app and came back Icelandic Sheepdog with Norwegian Buhund. Doesn't get fancier than that, folks! πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

RIEP JOSH TURNER πŸ’”πŸ•ŠπŸ•ŠπŸ•ŠπŸͺ½

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Josh Turner (on the right in Gary's lap), a euth listed dog we pulled in November 2014 from San Bernadino City. Josh was about five years old and was left behind by a rescue who submitted (with copious notes on the puller and everything) a pull commitment. So we stepped up before they killed him. SBC was brutally killing back then when "Debbie & Ryan" were running it. Everyone remember that sh*tshow? He merely had a toe injury. πŸ™„

Jim and Gary adopted Josh on 12/21/2014 at our adoption event at Cold Nose Warm Heart, Palm Springs, CA, and he had his first Christmas in their Palm Springs home. He became a little brother to their Shelter boy Reggie and truly one of the greatest loves of their lives. Josh was absolutely the sweetest little dog and followed his Daddy's everywhere. He loved their beach house in Laguna where they spend most of their time, ate homemade food for the last ten years and had long walks daily in the ocean air overlooking his domain perched atop the Pacific Ocean.

Josh went from a bedraggled scruff to rivaling AKC show dogs with Jim's morning brushings (teeth and hair) and grooming.

When Reggie had passed on, Jim & Gary came back to us for their second F&S dog! For the last four years, Josh was older brother to Josh "Henderson", now Spencer, from Monterey Shelter. We laughed at the coincidence of me choosing Josh as the first name for both, a first name I rarely use.

Thank you, my dear friends Jim & and Gary, for giving our sweet boy the best 10 years of his life. I know he lived to 15 years due to the amazing love and care you gave him, and he was always a grateful little guy. 😍

Josh, it was our honor to rescue you, and as much as it hurts that you have left, we take solace in knowing you lived a fairytale life because of your Daddy's. 😭😭😭. Good night, sweet Josh.πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Met up with our gorgeous friend, cheerleader, and supporter Chris Vaia on Monday. Chris and hubby Ron spend 6 months a year in the desert with their 12.5 year old Airedale Dexter to escape the brutal Chicago winters. It's always wonderful to see Chris and catch up! She's introduced us to many adopters, and every rescue needs a hype team wing-girl like Chris! Love you, Lady, and Thank You! Muah! ❀️❀️❀️

PLEASE WELCOME GOLDIE TO FLUFFS & SCRUFFS!

Goldie was found abandoned in a park in Fontana in late January. became aware of her, found out she'd been there for a few days, and brought her home. Bernice followed found dog protocol, notifying two local shelters, flyposting, and putting her on social media. No one came forward. She then reached out to a friend who is an AC officer, ex Fontana, who had just moved to the next town over so she could educate herself on stray hold, which she observed. Bernice was looking for a rescue after stray hold was up, and our dear friend recommended us! Bernice also got her professionally groomed to remove her matts.

Goldie had double bilateral dew claws and had gotten caught on something, so she was limping. Once we had her at hip, leg and foot injuries were ruled out, and we removed the double bilateral dew claws during her spay surgery.

We have no idea what breeds she is but suspect Norfolk T
errier, Dandie Dinmont, and maybe Petit Brussels Griffon Vendeen because of her length. 😳 She's under a year, and it's not shocking to us that someone dumped her in a nice area, hoping for her to have a better life.

And that we will provide! Welcome, sweetheart. It's all uphill from here. ❀️

I love the photo of Bernice saying goodbye to Goldie (her kids who are adorable named her)🧑. It was bittersweet for them learning about saving a dogs life. We love and thank you for trusting us.
